Fuck meme tracing, fuck lens simulation, fuck all of them. Fuck shaders.During the days of Fixed Function pipeline, everybody got the same graphics tech stack. Artists were in control and they use creativity to stand out from the rest of competition. Lens flare? Just a texture.Haze/Fog/Dirt? Just a texture.God Rays? Just a texture.Water? Just a texture. You don't need anything else, fuck the tech guys. They only care about financial growth. You don't need anything more than the ability of crunching polygons. We had everything even in the PS2 era. Why put up with cheap hacks when you can render the world twice to obtain reflection? Why imitate reality when you can create worlds that far surpasses whatever shit you have seen in real life?
The gamecube did have some semi programmable effects though.
gamecube is the most poweful gaming machine ever made
>>12542340you're old. it's not even about the graphics the issue with modern gaming is geezers playing them and kids only playing roblox & minecraft.
>>12542839>kids only playing roblox & minecraft.Come on m8 that's obviously not true. Every single AAA game these days is bloated to shit with all these realism features.
>>12542854the realism is because of geezers. no one plays these single player bespoke experiencestm but dads who need press X to awesome buttons and are alergic to anything that isn't the same game over nad over but with a different skin.
>>12542340Based and correct. Graphics hit a wall in 2012.
>>12542837For about 2 months.
What's the difference, really?
Another Kino, everything is simply textures.
>>12542340>everybody got the same graphics tech stackkek. Delusional.
>>12546956>kek. Delusional.Sorry, I assume people here were capable of nuance. You realize I am not talking about cross-console differences. For example, every single PS2 game is recognizable and unique even though they literally had the same tech stack. They feel the same, you can immediately tell its a PS2 game and yet they look different and stand out.And by the way, you might wanna look up the graphics API for PS1/PS2/Dreamcast/Naomi the architecture might be different but the way developers interacted with them were similar. That's why we have PS2 ports in the first place. Not to mention the whole renderware era. Did I mention the Softimage? Even the assets pipeline were same.
>>12542340>fuck shadersIt's really funny to post this with an image from RE4, a game that only looks as good as it does because it got to target a system with what are essentially proto-shaders. Look at how much worse RE4 looks on PS2 vs GameCube to see the difference between 'just a texture' and TEV.
>>12547020>fuck shadersTo be honest, I don't even know why I typed that. I don't have a problem with defining how colors are computed. I simply have a problem with using shaders to literally emulate photons like they would do in real life.
>>12542340Is this just native res right? looks really nice.
>>12542340/OPBPGodsend post Op. May God bless you forever and bring you multiple virgins to chose from or just keep gaming if that's your desire. Anyone seething over your post from this moment will get 5 years of terrible luck.Any sort of "No u" or immunity isn't allowed.
>>12546993Every fucking game now uses Unreal Engine and has the same visuals on all consoles. What the fuck is the relevance of Renderware standardisation or fixed function pipelines?
>>12543131These games wouldn't earn a profit if only geezers played them. Clearly there's a huge zoomer/gen alpha audience for movie games.
I think what's most frustrating is that modern day graphics company essentially pipelined themselves and the entire industry to bolster expensive performance reliant on really bad hacks like "render half the frames" rather than genuine artistic attempts or optimizations. GPU needs more ai power because every game uses it or needs it, GPUs need more vram because every game can't be optimized. Meanwhile perfectly fine modern games run on your sisters 1060 in a cave with a box of scraps. What's more frustrating is that its working out for Nvidia and now AMD. Unreal and compliant gamers essentially financed the ability for the GPUs to pivot from making gamer things for gamers.
>>12547485>Unreal and compliant gamers essentially financed the ability for the GPUs to pivot from making gamer things for gamersNVIDIA's primary business has been data centres since the Bush presidency LMAO, what do you think CUDA was meant for?
>>12547491You think its remotely comparable to the saturation and focus we're experiencing now???
>>12547516You think NVIDIA ever gave as shit about making gamer things for gamers? You fooled yourself into thinking that NVIDIA's closed-source drivers were made with your best interest, lmao, that's entirely on you. Shoulda bought AMD.
