They were the RPG powerhouse during the SNES era, but as soon as Square jumped to PlayStation, they just gave up? They shit out Quest64 and Paper Mario, and that's it? It's unbelievable that they went out on their backs like that. I understand that a worthwhile 3D RPG would never fit on the N64s anemic cartridges, but what about... more 16-bit RPGs? Earthbound 3 on N64, or hell, a definitive port of the Pokemon 1st/2nd Gen games with slightly better graphics would've greatly helped maintain some of that previous-gen momentum.

Sega should've commissioned a Sonic RPG, a Toe Jam and Earl RPG, and Phantasy Star V to compete with shit like FF, DQ, and Wild Arms on PSX.

Golden Sun was painfully generic and dull, the only reason it gets noticed at all is because it was on gba. Rayearth was a way better game than Golden Sun and it was largely ignored. It would just be another forgotten Saturn game.

I'm gonna share a nigglet tought of mine during the late 90s/early 00s:
Stadium and Stadium 2 could have included a GB Pokémon ROM hack in the GB Tower, featuring fewer Pokémon than the original GB games and offering a short, linear campaign. Instead of 140 (151 minus 11 exclusives per game) like Red/Blue, it could have had 40 or 50, focusing on less common ones like Clefable and both Omanyte and Kabuto. Set in the Sevii Islands with no access to Kanto, it would be a shorter standalone expansion that avoids rentals and adds value for anyone with the Transfer Pak, letting you trade your Pokémon from that Stadium R/B/Y ROM hack. For those without a GB, friends could still trade with you. With the NGC, they tried something similar with XD and Colosseum, but dropped the Stadium content and kept only the 3D battles.
