The wiioo failed from bad marketing. DS and 3DS were two of the most successful consoles of all time. Everyone loved the VMU but the tech wasn't ready yet because it was only tamagochi level when it needed to be at least gba level. The second screen on wiiu was fucking awesome.

Hell no, at that point I would rather deal with OP's awkward symmetrical sticks and weird face buttons than that mess. Give it four shoulder buttons with the back two being analog, ditch the four small black/white buttons on the left and right, and make start and select/back the primary buttons in the middle. Regulate map and... whatever the fuck the other button is to some other location, possibly even in place of those two black buttons on the left, it's not like you will be using those buttons that often compared to the others.

Why the fuck do so many modern dual-analog controllers put their stupid settings and other specialized buttons in place of start and select? Nobody is going to be adjusting their setting more often than pressing start/select and it fucks with muscle memory.

Is it really that much to ask to just have a modern Xbox-style controller, but with 6 face buttons instead of four? I don't even care if they are clones of two of the shoulder buttons like shown there, but they all seem to always fuck up SOME part of it. Either the right stick is a barely usable afterthought, it has no right stick at all, it only has two shoulder buttons, or the back two shoulder buttons are not analog.

How has absolutely everyone who made a modern face button controller that was meant to be an all-in-one and not specifically a fighting controller always manage to screw something up about it? You literally just have to put a duplicate of the L1/R2 buttons as face buttons on the existing Xbox controller design and you're done! How is everyone fucking this up?

I think the problem is that the people making these controllers don't understand why players actually want 6 buttons, and also want to cut corners.
hilariously enough, that controller on pc can't be used as a proper saturn controller because they made Z and C dupes of the bumpers instead of triggers or R3/L3.

and yeah i'm sick of seeing every 6 button pad cheap out with thumb pads

It's great for retro games and modern-ish games with poor controller support such as TES Oblivion or Fallout 3/Vegas.
DS4Windows is too powerful, and the touchpad is a fully configurable extra input for games that already use all the typical buttons. Quick save, quick load, fast forward, mouse function, gyro toggle, macros, auto profiles.
Plus the battery lasts longer on PC since some features are turned off.

Have you never used an analog stick outside of the Switch's Joycons? They are terrible. Those sticks are the primary control method for any game in the 6th gen and later, including modern games.

I find it interesting that most reputable modern N64 controllers are xbox-controller shaped when:
1. The button setup isn't great for a lot of modern games
2. The classic shape is good for n64 games, and can also be held like a snes contoller which is great for d-pad games
