Who has the better library between CPS 1/2/3 vs MVS/AES?
MVS, but they're both great.
CPS by farFinal fightCaptain commando2XThird strikePunisherAlien vs Predator ProgearDarkstalkerSF Zero
>>12546317capcom 1991-1994 were kino af
>>12546328Yep, quite a bummer tough that most of those games were not portedI guess the Super Nintendo couldn't handle those games but PlayStation/Saturn were capable
Best fighter: Vampire Savior (CPS2)Best shooter: Progear (CPS2)Best sports game: Neo Turf Masters (MVS)Best run n gun: MSLUG 3 (MVS)Best beat em up: Cadillacs & Dinosaurs (CPS1)Best racing game: Neo Drift Out (MVS)a tie?
>beat em upsabsolute slop
>>12546304>fighting gamesCPS victory but MVS is no slouch and has a large number of titles. Fighting games are not wheelhouse to be honest so if anyone wants to argue...>beat em upsStrong CPS win, Capcom is known for their brawlers. MVS is kind of a disappointment there besides Sengoku 3. A lot of their brawlers were made early and were middling quality. Shame they never made a Fatal Fury, KoF or Samurai Shodown brawler.>run and gunStrong MVS victory based on Metal Slug alone. Shock Troopers is great too. Capcom has Mercs and Ghoul and Ghosts but it isn't enough.>platformerPretty close to be honest, I can't decide. Magician Lord, Eightman, Blues Journey, Ganryu, Top Hunters, Spinmaster on one side and Strider, Chiki Chiki Boys, Willow and Magic Sword on the other. Tie for me.>shoot em upCPS but MVS still has a strong showing with Strikers, Aerofighters, Twinkle Star Sprites, Pulstar, Last Resort and Blazing Star are all solid but I think Capcom has them beat.>PuzzleMVS wins this handily>Sports / RacingMVS wins againI'd say the CPS games are on average higher quality but MVS covers more genres. A lot of the MVS's early stuff is average but it rapidly gets better.
384x224 is prettier than 320x224
Not possible on Neo Geo.
What's up AESpergs+
>>12546304CPS2 alone mogs MVS
>>12547017no it doesn't
Capcom has cartoonish aesthetics and niggerlicious mechanics.
>>12546304I really thought all the CPs combined would have close to the number of games on Neo Geo, but no, it’s only about half. I have to give it to Neo Geo for pure variety of games and longevity, the MVS is truly the king of arcade boards.
One sold millions of hardware and became on, the other filled for bankruptcy twice, sold it ass to a rich oil prince and became his bottom bitch.
>>12546304better overall library is MVS hands down, but CPS1/2/3 is stronger in certain genres like belt scrollers and shmups
Capcom had some odd non-CPS arcade games in the 90s ought to count in this discussion. https://youtu.be/pcCZLP7x4Es
>>12548452Other then MAYBE the Pant games by Mitchell Corp. Slipstream seems to be the only one and that one was available mainly in Latin America for some odd reason.
>>12548517Magical Tetris Challenge.Ought to count the console-exclusive games too since Capcom had no real home console. I don't count the CPS Changer.
>>12546347Progear has such a great story setup that would be nice to see as an anime. I got a CPS2 conversion of it with a B board last year and it was fun and cool. I love huge PCB games, granted CPS2 games feel like a bitch to switch out since they have to be so tightly fitted. Not that I change it much since my only other CPS2 is a Phoenix version of Super Puzzle Fighters II.
