Was Halo truly a graphical showcase in 2001?

You can't name anything else on the PC that used similar lighting effects (such as the flashlight) before Halo in 2001. I doubt you'll find one.

Yes.

Yes, but character models suck dicks, tho
>>
...Half-Life has a flashlight

Not retro.

Here's a legit screenshot
Aged like shit just like every 2001/2002 PC game
>>

Looks so good, the colors are so nice and the textures on metallic surfaces are just the right kind of shiny.
>>
>>12546565
Yep. Everything Halo did, Half-Life did first.
Praise Gordon Freeman.

For whatever reason it took like 6 years for other games to start using effects Halo CE did on Xbox.

Please don't post gore on /vr/ what the literal fuck is wrong with you

>>12546582
You're a total fucking fag. That screenshot is more beautiful than any other game released since. I bet you think piss filter slop from the 7th generation is peak graphics.

Halo CE Anniversary first released on the Xbox 360 in 2011

Also the grass, man. I remember being blown out by the grass texture for some reason. It was probably because of the CRT
>>
All halo had was impressive shaders and lightning. thats it. Back to playing superior gameplay games.
>>
>>12546582
ive never ran halo on a pc or an xbox and have it look like this. are you retarded? or trolling?
>>
Looks good
>>
>>12547078
It has a nice skybox

and relatively advanced enemy AI with a lot of enemy variety, and fun vehicles, and low-gravity jumps and exploding vehicle physics.
basically fuck the contrarian niggas, Halo 1 gameplay rocks.
The graphics are great, clear, and leave nothing to be desired.

Halo 1 was as mindblowing to people in 2001 as Mario 64 had been 5 years earlier. It genuinely felt like video games would be photo realistic by 2011 with massive dynamic worlds that actually changed according to your actions.

How naive and optimistic we were.

I thought all games would have red factions tech from the first game as standard as ragdoll effects… boy was I wrong. One of the “selling points” for halo 2 was being able to shoot off hubcaps… that was always dumb to me. I think specific Battlefields were the only games to pick up on the anything can be destroyed or damaged severely. Such a shame.

But on topic, Halo CE was that bitch of the gen. Can’t even get decent enemy ai anymore. Watching playthroughs of games like the new RE enemy ai has literally devolved.

The screenshot is from a gameplay video captured directly from the original Xbox
Just search for fag called Camp Xbox on youtube

You need to stop being a fanboy since Allied Assault was released only 2 months after Halo and already looks better.
>>
>>12546547
Yes, but you have to play it on original hardware with 5.1 audio + crt. All of the pc ports for halo 1 and 2 are complete garbage and don’t preserve the lighting
Don’t even get me started on 343i removing the loading screens, original menus, and credits

i thought 2D games would survive and make use of the bigger space of CDROMs and HDDs to make massive open world RPGs and sims. but we got Daggerfall jank instead.

well some MMORPGs were huge. and MapleStory had lots of areas to explore if you don't mind the grind to get there.
>>
halo 1 and 2 looked amazing, u just sounded retarded 2bh

It's not a bad looking game but I'm not seeing what you're seeing. Halo has so much going on from the physics to the particles to the chaos of chained explosions and dynamic lighting from gun fire and all the steep bump mapping making everything feel really detailed.
>>
bungie was approximating seventh gen effects in 2001 with good substantial art direction. only the most cutting edge pc gamers would have been nonplussed by that.
>>
>>12547078
The assault rifle cocking is the most satisfying sound in the history of games.
>>
I had my zoomer (22 year old cousin) play this with me co-op for the first time with OG graphics
He was blown away and loved every moment. He didn't realize how amazing Halo CE graphics were. Not to even mention the physics of enemies dying to grenades and stuff.
I showed him the remake graphics and he was like yeah, shit sucks.
