These games are mindblowing for their times and weak consoles

Ok but it's not canon so you just wasted your time.

It's a shame the opening screens of that game are so shit and unfair because it genuinely does get better immediately after that.

MG1 honestly isn't that great. It was awesome to play on NES back in the day but hasn't aged well. The MSX version is a little better but just feels too basic now.
MG2 on the other hand is a legit classic and one of the most underrated games of all time.

i played MG2 long time ago but I disliked the heavy backtracking in it. like everytime you need to do something you need to backtrack

I delayed seeing these games for a long time because of the differences in ports and IIRC the lack of translations.
Saw a play through of 1 and 2 only recently and was pretty shocked.
The progression from 1 to 2 is remarkable, and the entirety of both really makes me appreciate the Solid series more. People dog on Kojima for making "the same game" but I think seeing a reiteration like this is impressive and cool. It's not like modern games where a remake or remaster is subtle different, the Metal Gear games are intentionally being self referential in theme while being notably improved in other aspects. I.e. MGS being a 3D MG2, and continuing that kind of progression over the series. Familiar, yet improved, easily contrastable, easy to see a progression of a game developer refining the art relentlessly over a long period.
People can mock them but a lot of these games pushed limits and broke new ground, at least at a scale where people actually played it and know about it. MG2 had so many interesting mechanics for its time that stayed into modern games. MGS was an example of how to incoroprate cinema into games and I argue it did so without compromising on the other elements of the game, unlike modern games which intend/depend on being more of a good movie than a good game. I feel like the metal gear games do well at all the aspects they target. It's not just a good game, it's a good setting, good story, good production team that knows how to make a fun package.

every new MG retcons the fuck out of old ones so only V is canon

MG2 is a fucking slog, 10fps molasses movement and endless corridors where you hold direction button for 10 minutes. Game's also clearly rushed because SD Snatcher was in development at the same time and was the main project. That's why it runs like shit btw, uses fucking RPG engine with half tile movement. I'm sure most people sucking it off never played either.
