just started playing HOMM3 as my first ever HOMM-like and beat the 3rd scenario, does anyone have any tips? I know the game isn't too hard but I dunno I hear some scenarios are much harder, what's the strongest part about my faction the humans or whatever erathians, is it the balista unit you should slide into all your armies for ranged wo taking a unit slot?
>>12547308the first* scenario rather not the 3rd
>>12547308oh it gets HARD. basically every single HOMM game and their campaign missions are hard. the computer enemies cheat a lot or just start out with massive armies. the 2 HOMM3 expansions are worse.it's not about the strongest unit. you have to be super efficient and time your building choices/movements/attacks perfectly to meet mission objectives. strongest unit of the castle humans is the Angel of cose. Angels are strong , can fly, and buff your other units.just play a randomised map , and try out different factions if you just wanna have fun. read a walkthrough if you just wanna beat the campaign.
>>12547384yeah I just got carried by angels in this last scenario lol
man why does fleeing in this game just delete your whole stackdafuq is the point
>>12549339Save your heroes? esp if you only used one for exploration and "transporting" troops.but you might as well reload a savegame anyway. been this way since the King's Bounty game.
The learning curve for Heroes 3 is insane. I'm still learning new stuff about it 25+ years later. Ideally, you should aim to memorise the entire creature chart along with all spells, at the very least.>>12549339It's to save your hero and their spellbook and artifacts, preventing you from having to restart all over again with a brand new hero with shit stats while the enemy gets all your artifacts along with a sizeable advantage over you.
>>12549405where do they goin the tavern recruit pool while keeping their lvl?>>12549406all I do is spam ice bolt
>>12549408i forgot. i usually just reload.also the best spell is probably the "gate" spell or whatever the heck they callit in HOMM3. been a long time since i played it, and i usually went for more "warrior" type heroes. never did well with mage heroes.>>12549406if he lost a huge stack of troops he might as well reload. unless he's purposely losing just to lure out an enemy stack from a city.
>>12549458yeah desu i should savescum more, just because of how much bs rng can hit you in this game, doesn't feel fairenemy pulling out from fog with some mega stack sniping one of ur heroesno thanks bro
>>12549406>Ideally, you should aim to memorise the entire creature chart along with all spells, at the very least. Not Heroes 3 related, but Heroes 5 was the most sweatlordy regarding hero progression. You could badly fuck up your hero (locking him/her out of their ultimate skill) if you didn't pick the correct abilities.
>>12547308I played like 10 missions or something and it just became way too much for my dumb ass. But I did like what I played of it. It was a complete hole for me even though I was born in 92 and had a PC at the time it came out
>>12549406>>12549475isn't that stuff only mandatory for the very highest difficulties though
one question guys, is the amount of reserve units you have available to recruit capped? Or will it just keep growing wo a limit for the whole scenario?
>>12550201There's no cap but in the event there's a random Month of the plague all dwellings are reduced to 0. So you'd better recruit when you can afford.
>>12550358Correction : the current reserve is halved, and there is no growth for this week.
>>12550358I see, also getting conquered doesn't reset the reserve right? if the city gets conqueredgoddamn this is the 3rd and last scenario of "long live the queen" which is like the intro campaign on normal difficulty and I'm having some issues, just turtling for now I have one proper stack that runs all around the place to reclaim my cities from random enemy stacks, can't do shit since the remaining camps are all guarded by throngs of ranged
>>12550361conquering doesn't, but usually the AI uses its fuckhuge funds to buy up everything, so it makes sense to recruit archers/tier 7 before capture just to deny them to the AI.
>>12550515I see thanks, I hope I don't get filtered by some of the later campaigns, I hear this first one is much easier than any of the other onesits hard when you only have 1 real stack and the rest have to constantly watch out or be unit mules
>>12550361AFAIK you are suppose to max out the levels of your heroes in the previous scenarios. or at least one of them. (make sure you load from the same savegame so the XP/skills are carried over.)for most scenarios in general you must never turtle, you wait too long and the cheaty computer will eventually get so many troops, you can never defeat them. you have to hit them hard and fast with minimum number of troops. in some later campaigns(and expansion stuff), you might have to abandon your starter town/city to quickly take over an enemy's more upgraded city nearby to have a fighting chance.---https://heroes.thelazy.net/index.php/Crag_Hackanyhoo my fav hero. his campaign scenarios are too hard for me though.
dude is about to get raped by my archangels
>>12551754huge pussygot a hold of this scenario a bit after turtling, angels are the way w this faction
Christian is an absolute beast
>>12547308>first ever HOMM-likeWhat do you mean HOMM-like, you're playing fucking HOMM
>>12551856yeah but its a whole genre unto itself at this point, there's so many HOMM knockoffs on steamI was thinking of starting with songs of conquest but decided to go with 3 fuck just learned that there's a bunch of useful overworld spells u can use too..
yay managed to beat it though
>>12551874>I was thinking of starting with songs of conquest but decided to go with 3you can still play Age of Wonders.
>>12551992I thought that game was more like civ than HOMM
>>12552003it's very Heroes-centric too. some of us thought it would be the next Master of Magic but it's not even close.
