Every time I come back to this game I think it's amazing...and yet I don't like it.

Very stylish, cool gameplay mechanics, and fun environments to explore. But it just feels stiff to control.

I want to like it.

Always felt more style over substance. I don’t hate it, but it’s one of those Dreamcast games I don’t often revisit.

Style is substance you joyless brutalist. Never mind that JSR is a compelling game in its own right with addictive routing and and impeccable level design. Yet low IQ retards will pick up a game about having wheels under your feet and expect it to control like Call of Duty, it's madness. Play the game by its own fucking rules and you'll see it makes a lot of sense.

Check out Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, I think you'll like it.

He didn't say it had good gameplay or that it was fun to play

I felt the same way when I tried it on Dreamcast, but I’ve heard the Vita port has some QoL improvements.

>But it just feels stiff to control.
JSR contrarians grappling with its primitiveness as they try to cope with its greater accessibility than the sequel where this is fixed
>>
"erm ehh... it's too CLUNKY i like it i just dont like PLAYING it" you faggots are why gaming sucks now
fuck you and your accessibility, i hope you like your live service slop coming whenever sega decides to shit it out you retards.
and as much as i love jet set radio future, that game is fucking TRAAAASSHH compared to JSR, in every way except aesthetics which are a major step up.

But I said this in 2000. I even wrote a review at the time.

I love JSR. I love the way it looks. I love the way it sounds! I love the way it plays.
I love JSRF. I love the way it looks. I love the way it sounds! I love the way it plays. UNDERSTAND UNDERSTAND UNDERSTAND UNDERSTAND UNDERSTAND UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF LOVE!

Just play future

Also Cube best girl

That's how I feel about JSRF. JSR is a fun focused arcade styled game I can sink hours into. JSRF feels really aimless with its hub world structure and tries to coast mainly on vibes.

Back in the day I absolutely thought that but now I gravitate towards Gum. Also unlocked memory as soon as I saw your Pic Dragula popped in my head. That song showed up in so many games back then.

I love Jet Set Radio, but I wish there was a way to actually do tricks a la Tony Hawk or something. You kinda sorta can based on how you land or have the control stick turned, but theres no way to do combos or interesting tricks that are hard to pull off. Maybe I just played too much Skate 3 or something before playing Jet Set.
The music fucking slaps tho, I still have plenty of songs from the game in my playlist. The Dreamcast was great for game soundtracks. I need to dig out my Dreamcast and play this game again

It's not better, sorry. Gameplay is the only thing that matters

yes
op is literally complaining about gameplay that doesn't apply to jsrf

The jumping is awful. Anytime the game asks you to make a jump I genuinely want to snap the disc in half. It's always difficult to get your momentum up in the spots they want you to do it and then actually aiming yourself in the right direction feels like such a crapshoot. If they just fixed that it would be great.

not OP, but I bought a DC years ago and this was one of the first games I burned for it, and I agree, the trick(?) button for when youre grinding signs and jumping off rails only seems to work like 30% of the time

>no need for massive knockers or exaggerated lipstick
>modest and cool clothing combination, very down-to-earth
>doesn't sit on a gamer chair all day or take thousands of mirror pics everyday
>not named something cringe like lunarkitty or common objects with feminine suffix, like chairina
>(CHA-Irina, not chair irina? Okaaaay? Totally different guuuys)

I have never gotten this comparison, I can't think of any pre- JSR game like it in arcades. Is it just because of the points/ranking system?
>>
Im fine with the momentum and controls and tagging in JSR, its the structure I dont like. always being on a timer and being swarmed by cops, I much prefer jsrf's format where I can just chill and explore the city and fuck around at my own pace.
>>
>>12547579
I love the fact that Future's physics almost seems like they were tweaking the originals and completely fucked it up so instead of losing momentum easily you're constantly given momentum with any jump or grind or touching rails.
It's maybe the only game franchise I know where such a fundamental aspect is effectively reversed in the sequel. I wish the franchise had some more entries to see how they'd inevitably attempt to balance the two.

I get the "aimless" critique of JSRF, but there's actually a lot to do in it, the interface just isn't geared to steering you towards the JSR-style time based challenges. You're meant to basically poke you're way into discovering it in the interface as you find things, or using the manual to find out about it.

welcome to the SEGA Dreamcast. a sense of style and "vibe" that makes the games look great in a video essay on YouTube, but they suck to actually play. there's a reason why the system bombed
