I wanna love this game but it’s a genuine fucking slog to get through.

It is not good. People praise the writing but that is the worst aspect.

>People praise the writing
People praise the world-building, the puzzle-heavy, Zelda-like dungeons, unique among JRPGs at the time, and Motoi's music. The story is fine (how is it worse than any contemporary Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, come on?), and yes, the writing is chatty but actually well-written. Actual money was spent on a genuinely good localization, too.

So I was right, got it. The story is a jumbled mess that contradicts itself.

how?

i dropped it a few hours in back when i bought it new. i didnt intend to never play it again but i didnt. its a perfectly passable jrpg. i would probably like it a lot more if it was something i played as a kid but i was like 19 already and i guess there was just other stuff i wanted to play

Its amazing as an entry point into jrpg. If youre already well aquainted with the genre its probably going to be too simple for you. I enjoyed the fuck out of it as a child.
