Did you realise you were living through a golden age or is it something you only appreciate after it's gone?
>>12547542I knew it was a good age but I didn't knew things would get worse, I was expecting gamws to just get better and bigger but they just more """"realistic"""" with crap like voice acting and muh graphics instead of shit that matters
No I wasn't aware of it back in the 90s, I thought games would keep getting better.
>>12547548>I was expecting games to [be] bigger
>>125475422000s and maybe late 90s were peak pre-rendered 3D graphix. too busy and pooru to actually buy and play them all back then.
>>12547542I was born in the mid 80s so I got to experience everything from the 16-bit era forward firsthand. The dawn of 3D polygonal gaming certainly felt very exciting.
>>12547548I hate how modern games are all about the multiplayer now and the single player just feels like a tech demo to aquaint yourself with the basic mechanics. There used to be games that unlocked you cosmetics for online if you beat the story and/or did certain missions within the story. Now theyll let you fast forward that for a 1/3 of the price you bought the game through a DLC.
>>12547575>modern games are all about the multiplayer nowthat trend started with /vr/ FPS games and MMOs.
Arguably we are in an (almost) golden era.>infinite catalog of games>cheap controllers and breadline hardware>indie games / romhacks>extensive modding support & content>decomps and major emulation improvements>open source / homebrew on the riseYou just have to look past the sloppa and ignore psyop
>>12547585Real
>>12547542Not really. I always wanted it to get better
>>12547542Golden age was through the 90s maybe early 2000, but none of the users here are aware of it and just follow jewtuber opinion.
>>12547542No but I'm gay
>>12547597>90's nostalgia trending on tiktok>very mildly lukewarm take>giving any importance to nu-game-journosYou must be 18 and above to post here.
>>12547542>Did you realise you were living through a golden ageYes. I remember playing a lot of sixth gen games and thinking "okay, so, this has been perfected, it'll never get any better than this". I was right, but I wasn't expecting things to backslide as much as they did.
>>12547612>nu-game-journos>90s tock tiksLGR channel is still relevent gaiz. i don't know if he has a uncommied ticktocks endorsed by Trump, but he does have a trans-bluesky account.have a nerf Unreal Tournamenthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzlX53Bdj6s
>>12547542I woke up one day with ass cancer and realized the golden age of video games came and went.

>>12547542>realiseWhy do bongs and aussies love cum town so much?
>>12547585Agreed. Aside from modern "AAA" games being written and designed for retards, everything else is gold. Can even seen it as Retro+ or at least I do since there are a lot of good indies that play like good retro games.
>>12547585yeah, now is easily the best time to be into classic vidya.
>>12547703Cumtown, actually it's just Nick really, is the capstone to old internet culture. I'm sure this motherfucker was surfing /b/ and /v/ and probably has multiple banned SA accounts.
>>12547712Depends if you're not trying to buy the actual consoles and getting into MP servers that aren't run by insane (troons) people.
>>12547542now it is this
>>12547932and this
>>12547742That’s fair, but I’ve noticed that the podcast weirdly seems to have a big following in the UK/Australia. At least on 4chan.

>>12547567There's been more than one monkey paw wish when it comes to gaming.
>>12547932>>12547936What is "it"? Your life? I could hardly care less.Did you not have any real friends growing up to keep in touch with?
>>12547932>>12547936you realize these photos are many years old yes
>>12547542>hehe yeah dude, liberals are all gay faggots hehe>why yes, I voted for Kamala, how could you tell?
>>12547597>maybe early 2000What do you mean "maybe"? Some of the best stuff came out during then.
Don't worry, it's gonna get a hell of a lot worse and you'll look back at today and think of it fondly in comparison
>>12547542RuneScape from 2005-2007 That was still the wild west of the internet and the absolute peak of online gamingThe world felt alive. Its all been downhill since then
>>12551497there was a lot of efficiencyfaggotry back then too, rock crabs, yews, black d'hide, coal, etc.wiki just enabled it and cranked to 11And the game generally sucked all-round with no skill required and little to do.And it was botted to hell, lobsters at port sarim were notorious for thatEverything was much worse save for one important thing: social aspectYou could just say hi and strike any conversation with anybody at any given time.Perfect for lonely losers like me, back in the day.Nowadays, if you want to be social there, you'd have to purposely sign up for an ugly social media platform,...And navigate walls of rules, confusing chat boxes and useless features just to say hiIt's all so tiresome.I made an account two years ago and deleted it next day.I couldn't take this comical level of inefficiency and obsession with macguffins. Fucks sake.Fuck the machines. I rage against the machineMind you, i'm 28, about to be 29. I'm not some decrepid boomer. I still have a head full of hair and lean gut.If i am like that now, we're fucked. Good luck to genA
>>12551536Dudes ranging with a longbow There is no efficiency there. Only a minority of the player base cared about efficiency
Definitely after. HD killed the mid tier weird game industry. We get some fun stuff on the indie level and I do enjoy some aaa slop every couple of years. But nothing will ever give you the rush of discovering katamari or Mr mosquito for $20 new or $7 used.
>>12551773that's a shortbow m8, longbow goes past the torsoalso nice nostalgia gogglesok, fine, i'll bite. Yes, the social type was way more common than it is today, but saying that a minority of players didn't care about efficient is just simply untrue. It wasn't as rampant and sweaty as it is today, however, it did exist and the majority of players were aware. There wasn't a fully fledged extensively documented wiki, but there were clans and later sal's + runehq. If you look at old pics, you'll see lots of scimitars, that's your first clue right there. Connect the dots.
