There used to be games that unlocked you cosmetics for online if you beat the story and/or did certain missions within the story. Definitely after. HD killed the mid tier weird game industry. We get some fun stuff on the indie level and I do enjoy some aaa slop every couple of years. But nothing will ever give you the rush of discovering katamari or Mr mosquito for $20 new or $7 used.
