>sells 1 million units and is more successful than the shitty MSX version
>to this day it makes Kojima fucking assmad that his shitty pretentious shit didn't sell as much that he continues to say the game is shit even tho it's more balanced and more streamlined than the MSX version
>Snake's Revenge gets made and is also a hit and makes Kojima mad that he makes a sequel to try and outsell it
What a fucking hack LOL
>>
The forest maze is shit but otherwise it's a fine game.

I love Snake's Revenge, great game.
>>
>>12550084
It also had a better OST. NES soundchip shits all over the MSX

It amazes me boomers back then as kids actually bought games like this, what fucking 5 year old was actually having fun walking around the game not knowing where the fuck to go or do without guides? How the hell did it sell 1 million?
>>
It's pretty wild that he tricked the world into thinking he was some autuer just so he could lick up Elons sloppy seconds.

>It amazes me boomers back then as kids actually bought games like this, what fucking 5 year old was actually having fun walking around the game not knowing where the fuck to go or do without guides? How the hell did it sell 1 million?
there was literally nothing else to do back in the 80s
>>
>>12550105
MGS4 and shitty games like peacewalker showed me Kojima got by with luck, dude peaked at MGS2
>>
>Game: MSX >:c
>Game: NES :O

>only 5 years old played NES and only clueless boomers bought NES games

Your fantasy world isn't reality
>>

>walking around the game not knowing where the fuck to go or do
If you don't like this you don't like video games.
>>
WTF is even an MSX? Is that the console that looks like a fucking keyboard? How the hell do you even play that or insert games into it?
>>
>>12550103
five year olds didn’t play games, dipshit
it’s not like now where every toddler has an ipad and a switch
game systems were mainly for 10+ years old and the best kind of entertainment for kids at the time was literally exploring neighborhoods on their bikes
the joy of exploring and finding your own fun in the mundane was what kids fucking loved
the games that involved a lot of exploration even without guidance sold well, dipshit
why do you think zelda was big
>>
>>12550107
>>12550115
It gets old after awhile when you keep dying and spawn back to the very beginning of the game after 2 hours of exploring

>>
>>12550116
Multiple variations of it. All have some form of joystick or game pad to the right of the keyboard.
>>
>>12550117
I remember playing zelda when I was like 7, I didn't know where to go and never even got to the first temple. That shit was boring
>>
>>12550128
Why did Kojima want to make games for this failure and not the NES? Did he hate nintendo that much?
>>
>>12550128
It also had a cartridge slot for games just like a nes
using it was no rocket science
btw I played on it as a 5 year old
>>
>>12550135
he was more just upset that Konami ordered a NES port of MG without telling him and he had no involvement in making it
>>
>>12550135
The MSX was a lead platform for Konami too
>>
>>12550118
Is that why all the daily posters here are miserable and desperate to bait? Pretty shit character.
>>
>>12550134
cool, gotta suck to be 15 in this current age
>>
>>12550103
IDK about Americans but Japanese kids absolutely loved the whole explore-a-world-and-find-hidden-crap school of game design.
>>
>>12550084
Kojima liked Snake's Revenge, at least more than he did the NES port of MG1.

Also it had all manner of joysticks and gamepads, you did thave to use the built in controls.
Shooters were very popular on MSX so autofire controllers seemed to do well.

>dude peaked at MGS2
Then why is MGS3 the best one
>>
>>12550169
90% of 5 year olds with a fresh NES in 1985 had an older sibling that it belonged to, that was the majority market
>>
>>12550172
It's not, that's just what retards say cause "OMG YOU CAN PLAY AS SNAKE AGAIN"

MGS2 has better graphics and story than 3. 3 is was just a safe bet cash grab for dumb fans and it also ruined the entire series with it's prequel bullshit
>>
>>12550116
Zemnix went a step further and consolized the MSX because Korea had a strict import limit on Japanese products.
>>
>>12550172
Pretentious faggot, Konami was right, I wish they'd hire him back just so they can fire him again
>>
>>12550141
They also couldn't fit the final boss from the MSX game because the ROM size was smaller.

>1985
>NES
A few families in NYC you mean? NES was not released nationwide until May-June 1986.

Christmas 1985: NYC trst market
Feb 1986: San Diego & Los Angeles trst market
Also feb 1986: first north american demo of super mario bros at an arcade expo. Around this time it also began to be sold retail in limited markets mentioned above
May 1986: Toys R Us and Target receive their first nationwide shipments
September 1986: the first nintendo commercials air on tv to help build Christmas demand
The vast majoriy of NES consoles were sold christmas 1987-1990. It was a slow start.
>>
>>12550103
Kids saw Kyle Reese on the cover and assumed it was the next Contra

But seriously though, in the late 80's it became increasingly common for games to be non-linear. It was the era of Zelda, Castlevania 2,TMNT, and all these other games. Making a game like Metal Gear was such a no-brainer at the time.

It also had one of the best comic book game ads of the adds, at a time when cocomics mattered. This ad also ran next to (or on subsequent page) of uktra games TMNT at the hight of turtle mania. They had their target audience locked in.

Compared to the famicom ad (which is also cool) but it didnt capture the imagination the way NES ad did.
>>
>>12550176
So we moved from "5 year olds didn't play video games" to "5 year olds didn't personally manage the household expenditures"
>>
I put off playing Snake's Revenge because of the bad rep it got after Kojimbo got mad about it... But it's actually better than both MG1 and 2.
>>
>>12550103
This is back when they put the guides in Nintendo Power, and the guide for Metal Gear made it seem way cooler than it actually.
>>
>>12550172
Because you're part of the hive mind
>>
>it's more balanced
NES team were ahead of their time, they reworked death mechanics to allow deathwarps without losing items. And everyone says kojeemer thinks outside the box, heh.
Shitposting aside NES version does improve the game with better music variety and new areas, but could've used more polishing.
>>
>>12550678
He was shitting on it so people won't play it and see how he ripped off MGS2's tanker chapter.

>the guide for Metal Gear made it seem way cooler than it actually.
Nintendo power gave it 4 whole pages in the Jan 89 issue, including one page completely taken up by the games cover art and no hints. There was no useful info at all. Marble madness and some pro football game all got like 9 pages each in that same issue and even those were fluff. Nintendo power magazing very rarely had actual guides.
>>
>>12550084
>tendie pedo doesn't understand that a game on a more popular console sells more
MSX2 wasn't popular outside Japan, and MG1 wasn't localized outside japan either, and Snake's Revenge being on NES and localized is what made it sell more.
It's still non-canon, and lol you fight a computer instead of Metal Gear
>>
>>12550690
>Shitposting aside NES version does improve the game with better music variety and new areas, but could've used more polishing.
They had only three months to finish it.
>>
>>12550856
Kojima's autism aside Konami did want to make some money off the game so a NES port was a perfectly sensible move.
>>
>>12550863
it was probably less that than him being miffed that they did the port without telling him first
>>
Reminded that Capcom did the same with DMC2 making it without the original director involvement or notice and look what we got.
Snake's Revenge is the same but tendies pretend it's a masterpiece just to spite Kojima
>>
I think they always intended the game for a US release (in spite of the Famicom release coming out first) because it was UNROM and didn't use any of Konami's OC donut steal mappers.
>>
>>12550084
too bad this series totally skipped the 16-bit consoles
>>
>>12550675
it’s the same fucking statement, parents weren’t buying new consoles for 5 year olds in the 80s, so 5 year olds were not the fucking market
no parent was buying this shit for their little shit that didn’t even know how to tie a shoe yet
they didn’t play video games
>>
>>12550880
No one thinks it's a masterpiece but it's also not some unplayable trash 0/10 game that Kojima acts like it is, same with the first one on NES. They are solid fun games
>>
>>12550182

And I mean folks... where's the lie?
>>
>>12550856
>MSX2 wasn't popular outside Japan, and MG1 wasn't localized outside japan either
It was translated into english for a european release. US also got computer ports, for C64 and DOS, based on NES version.
>>
>>12550880
Snake's Reverse was made by a different team, some guys worked on the first Castlevania.
>>
>>12550303
also Metal Gear (both versions) was 1987, not 1985.
I don't know why everybody indulge these retards who can't even take 2 seconds to google before spouting nonsense and let them derail threads.

And 1988 for outside japan.

Why do you zoomers even come to /vr/? Just to ragebait? It seems like you want to like retro games because it's cool but then you get mad because you don't actually like them. Like wtf, close your eyes, walk away from the screen, you can just leave.
