Can't find a Thief thread, so here's one. I still kinda wish that we explored the Hammerer's lore some more.

Tell me, O Thief fans out there, how would you incorporate The Builder as a character/potential boss in the series?
Would he smite Garrett with his mighty hammer?
Would Garrett have to ascend his castle/palace high up in the heavens, or perhaps perched on an almost impossible to climb mountain?

Tell me your ideas/concepts for having The Holy Builder in the series.

The Builder builds the most intricately designed and confusing dungeon/maze Garrett has ever seen yet as a test

Its unfortunate that Thief 2 didnt have a mission dedicated to the Hammerites that rejected Karras. Especially considering they do exist as an enemy type in a couple missions.

I'm a bit annoyed that all we hear of the Hammerites (not the Hammerers, my bad) is some mention in Thief 3 that they did a massive recovery and had a lot of trials for heresy.

I'm a sucker for omnipotent invisible figures, so if it's up to me, the Builder would never manifest directly. The best you'd get would be a massive iron statue, like Talos in the old Argonauts movie.

Anon here who originally posted the question, as I imagine it, Garrett has to first ascend a solid formidable mountain or sheer cliff (something that represents a solid foundation for building upon). Secondly, the style/architecture of the Builder's abode/temple/fortress etc, is a clever mixture of Greek, Roman and Medieval Gothic with halls and high ceilings. I'd imagine the Builder has a final private temple perched at the peak of the level overlooking the rest of the structures. His inner sanctum.

Feel free to call me a fag and rip my interpretation apart or add a better interpretation to it.

I took feel disappointed that throughout the three games, we got the Maw of Chaos but never got The Ascension to Order.

Instructions unclear, I ripped a fag open.

Nah. Civilization, the city itself is already the builder's grand temple. He's not a god to descend from heaven, he builds out of the mud and stone, hacking at the enclosing chaos in the ascent. I mean, he already has a mountain cathedral at cragsleft prison. It's built atop a prison that is built atop a factory that is built atop mines.

Besides, the master builder is, ultimately, more or less, just kind of a decent guy and therefore wouldn't be a very interesting character in a game that relies on less than decent guys to tell interesting stories. That's why the second game introduced the heretical sect to cover the thematic opposite of the first game's ground.

Things Karras did:
- nothing wrong
- based tech
- aesthetic buildings
- removed pagankebab
- cleansed the streets of scum

Just finished Reflections in Red
I like how you can apparently finish the thing without ever discovering the monsterman
Really great mission

I never liked that Deadly Shadows made the gold requirement percentage based instead of having map specific goals.

Yeah, turns them into video game collectables, ruining the bit of role-playing immersion as you assess the value of what you're swiping and the gear you might be able to fence it for.

What’s the best way to play this series now?

Play it on hard, not expert. The extra objectives are fun, but depending on the level aren't always available and getting into sword fights with the occasional guard is actually a criminally overlooked element of the game that is also fun.
