Remember when a Japanese game would release and it would release in the west 10 years later? Why was that allowed?
Sonic 1 was released in the west first in June 1991, Japan didn't get it until July so OP image is definitely not related.
>>12553892Close enough though
>>12553889Allowed by whom?
>>12553889Those were the days when import shops had a commanding position of strength in the weeb community.
They prioritized their home country, as they should.
>>12553908You know who
>>12553889Distribution logistics were way worse back then. It's why it's hard to find game release dates, especially before the 1990s, when games would release months apart in different regions
>>12553991 (Me)when I say regions here, I mean regions of the SAME country, not world regions
>>12553995like cornwall compared to warwickshire?
>>12553889do you remember when weebshit was extremely niche and no one wanted to localize anything because there was no money in it? no of course you dont, youre like 12.now stfu
>>12554065Yes, or in New England compared to the US south
>>12554069>>12553914>>12553912>>12553908not japanese
>>12553938kek why can't publicists just say, "Yes, there is a slight physical resemblance between these two individuals, but this casting decision was not intentional and does not convey any political messages or undertones"
>>12553889it was the 90s, we didn't know any better back then
>>12553889Western publishers couldn't be bothered to translate the games into English, it was very laborious and took a long time, They didn't give a fuck back then. Here in the UK the first final fantasy game we got was 7 and the first dragon quest game we got was 8. At least you yanks got FF 1,4 and 6 and dragon quest 1,2,3,4 and 7.
>>12553889Most games were written in assembly. You couldn't just edit the text in a file to English and expect everything to work. They had to manually add linebreaks to fit in the text boxes on the screen and sometimes that meant they had to reprogram the menu and dialogue systems to accommodate the different string lengths and character sizes. Fixed-width vs variable-width fonts were also an issue.
Remember when an American game would release and it would never release in Japan? Why was that allowed?
>>12553995It was common practice back then to release first in big city test markets (NYC, Chicago, L.A.) when it came to toys and electronics.
>>12553889MOGGED by American Sonic
