We need to talk about rail shooters. Is it actually a good sub-genre of the shmup genre? The last time I enjoyed it when i was a kid being new to video games and it was Star Fox 64. Playing it as an adult now the genre is just absolutely boring. I wouldn't even say the genre sucks but it's just boring. I would rather play a traditional shmup than an on-rails shooter. Is this sub-genre just a dumb nostalgic fad? I'm genuinely curious on what you think of this sub-genre. I think it's overrated.

It's not a sub genre of shmups anymore than Doom is. Character based rail shooters like Star Fox are a subgenre of rail shooters, which have an actual character instead of just controlling a cursor like in House of the Dead. The genre is fine. A good rail shooter has high spectacle, tightly balanced but high difficulty, and ideally a bit of complexity. Star Fox has great spectacle, is more complex on average, and the difficulty is there is if you play for score or are not very good.Your post sucks. You give an opinion. "That rail shooters suck." Than you ask other people to explain the points of your own opinion "why does it suck". The flow of sentences is sloppy. Look at my post. I state my opinion and back it up and my flow is great. You can write like this too if you just practice and do a bit of editing. It makes the board more enjoyable.
