What's the most difficult star in Mario 64?
anything that involves the wing cap
>>125566298 red coins in the clock at max speed i guess? or maybe getting to the top at max speed
>>12556629None of them are difficult really if you've played it before. But, for the first play through I'd say the sunken boat treasure chest puzzle. You're gonna die at least once getting zapped and losing air.
I recently got 120 stars and the only one I needed to look up was getting a fast time on the princess secret slide. In hindsight it was pretty obvious, when you go back and do it again there's a time trial clock added. I was feeling mentally fatigued at 119 stars and I wanted it to be over with so I looked it up. I actually specifically went back to that stage and was doing weird things like trying to jump on one of the side pillars thinking there might be a hidden star there. I didn't think to just finish it faster.
>>12556657Should've talked to each Toad, since one of them hints at the 2nd star's existence.
>>12556629The fly through rings one.
>>12556657Same experience. That one just wasn't very obvious.
>>12556629100 coin stars. They're not difficult on every level obviously, but any of the levels where you can die more easily like Shifting Sand Land or Tik Tok Clock are the biggest pains in the ass ever. It's already a pretty unfun and tedious task to begin with but the real problem is that since you're scavenging every inch of the level for every coin, rather than just making a beeline to a star, you suddenly become a lot more vulnerable to the games many shortcomings. Missed ledge grabs, janky collision, hitting invisible walls, it's always during the 100 coin stars when I run into this stuff the most and I start realizing the game, just maybe, isn't as perfect as everyone says it is.
>>12556694Tik Tok Clock and Rainbow Ride were so stressful with the instant falling deaths. I made a point to clear those ASAP so I could save the more cozy levels for last. I always hear people talk about how challenging Sunshine is but I can't imagine it has anything more difficult than that.
the 100 coin star in Rainbow Ride, it's especially hard because you pretty much to get the blue coins (IIRC)
>>12556629All stars in that vile ass clock level
>>12557006I love this picture. Mind if I save it?
>>12557420Sent ;)
>>12556629I had this game the day it came out. I beat the game in 3 days. It took me a week to get the 120th star. The last star was the one in Cool, Cool Mountain with the snowman head. I had no idea that it would follow where Mario was so I was always waiting on the side for it to hit the platform and it never did, well until it did by accident. That's the hardest one.
>>12557420All yours, my friend.
>>12557889Thnx
>>12557420sure, it's not mine anyway.
Yeah Rainbow Course stuff is the hardest IMOSome of the Tick Tock ones tol
>>12556902lily pad shine is 1000x worse than anything in 64. ditto for pachinko. the manta ray boss is genuinely challenging if you dont know the cheese. the chuckster and all of the no fludd platforming gauntlets in general are way harder than anything in 64. and forget about actually finding all the blue coins without a guide. sunshine is way way more difficult
>>12557006this only adds up to 118...
for me it was always the red coins in the wing cap stage, the one in the clock room across from rainbow ride. controlling the cap is just a pain in the ass. fuck that star to death
>>12559960That's kind of unfair because the pachinko was just poorly done on top of the janky ass physics
>>12559963This, and iirc one of the wing cap stages drops you outside the castle if you fall making getting back to the level more tedious
