Why were CRPGS (Blobbers) so god damn popular in the 80s and 90s?
People had more sophisticated taste back then.
cheap to make, hardware friendly, d&d was fresh and inspired a generation of graphic designers, reusable assets, text-adventurers paved the way for storytelling.
>>12557785>Blobbersrage, etc... I am too tired to type more
How did they think 3 lines of visible text was acceptable in a game where you have many party members attacking large mobs of enemies?
>>12557785because there weren't many other ways you could accomplish first person gameplay back then
These were some of the most immersive games of their time
>>12557785It bothers me that your post implies cRPGs and blobbers are one in the same which simply isn't true. You wouldn't call Fallout or Planescape a blobber.
>>12558108op probably meant drpg
They weren’t that “god damn popular.” Blobbers were just one genre among many back then, they simply worked well within the hardware limitations of the era. Once technology improved and games could do bigger worlds, smoother movement, real-time combat, cinematic presentation, etc., the genre naturally got pushed into the background a bit.
>>12558108it's a troll post because "blobber" triggers some people around here, rightfully
>>12557856UX wasn't even a thing back then.
>>12557815>>12558108All blobbers are CRPGs, so OP is technically correct.
>>12558669The 2nd anon you replied to literally posted a jRPG
>>12558723JRPGs can be CRPGs too.
>>12557785What the fuck is a blobber? You mean dungeon crawlers?
>>12559516Because you move like a blob in those games
It was the best experience you were going to get in a PC game back then.
>>12557785you meant goldbox games and their clones.and it's cause Diablo clones and Ultima Underworld/TES clones haven't mogged them yet.
>>12558153>real-time combat,EOTBs were realtime. many of the goldbox-like games had realtime combat, which kinda suck with the crap controls and UI.
Would you consider The Lords Of Midnight to be a blobber? What's a blobber? If you move in "full" non-tile 3-D is it not a blobber? Blobber is a troon term anyway.
>>12557785>Why were CRPGS (Blobbers) so god damn popular in the 80s and 90s?They were well suited for the home computers of their time, more so than consoles?
>>12558824>JRPGs can be CRPGs too. Most of the CJRPG's were on the PC88, PC98 and MSX computer, I would imagine.
