What's the appeal? I felt like playing a SNES jRPG and this was the first non-FF/DQ/PS/Earthbound/etc. one I found. Is there any particular reason why this series is popular?

If you want more interesting SFC RPGs try G.O.D. - Mezame yo to Yobu Koe ga Kikoe or Herakles no Eikou 4 or Terranigma for ARPG. Hell I personally rate Robotrek higher than BoF despite how short it is, at least it's more unique.
>SNES jRPGBreath of Fire is a Playstation seriesOne that was stolen from Nintendo kekaroooooNo one cares about BoF1 zoomie zoom
>>12558120The first BoF is a bit rough around the edges but it's a good game if you have the patience for it.The appeal of Breath of Fire games compared to other JRPGs comes from its characters, their respective races and cities and the world-building. All games share themes and names and they are related despite being eons or alternate universes apart, so it's nice to find references and tie-ins regularly.Regarding gameplay, the experience they offer can be very straightforward, with Dragon Quarter being the experimental exception; it's basic RPG fare with little to no customization to your characters' grow like FF or DQ. Even with that, it's nice to see how the game's plot unfolds like a fantasy book.Capcom's strength isn't found in role-playing games but it was nice to see them try their luck at the genre with this franchise.
