Exceedingly average NES action platformer/unabashed Zelda II ripoff. It does nothing really wrong but nothing memorable either, it just kind of exists. Also it's nowhere near as polished as the game it rips off of.
where do I unsubscribe to this blog
Zelda II mogs every other Zelda game, so it's unfair to expect this one to compare to it.
>>12558743You can't bump your own thread, OP.
>>12558740nobody in Japan even remembers BoO because these kind of games were a dime a dozen back then
>>12558753Zelda II fucking sucks.
>>12558753I hate contrarians so much. No, Zelda 2 isn’t actually your favorite Zelda game. You just want us to think that for that sweet gamer hipster cred.
the Mexican Runner took two 6 hour videos to beat this one. it's pretty brutal if you don't know what to do.
>>12558795>>12558808Best in the series. Bar none. Simple as. Cope. Seethe. Dilate. /thread
>>12558789I think Battle of Olympus is more well known here than there because they were glutted with so many of this type of game.
by not as polished, I mean the enemy movement patterns are not well thought out and it's hard to avoid their attacks or hit them in contrast to Zelda II and Castlevania II
>>12558825>they were glutted with so many of this type of game.Name 5
>>12558836Ys I-V
>>12558836Faxanadu, Zelda II and Castlevania II of course, Chester Field, Wing of Madoola, 8 Eyes, Getsua Fuma Den, etc.
https://nescartdb.com/profile/view/760/the-battle-of-olympusCould swear this was UNROM but it's actually MMC1. No idea what they even needed it for, game seems like it could have worked as UNROM.
>>12558740You're right, OP. I'm going to renounce NES games forevermore and stick to the ZX Spectrum instead.
>>12558740>GIF that doesn't move

>inb4 some chucklefuck asks for a nude sprite hack of the girl
you know this game is mid and forgettable when most of the thread is talking about Zelda II instead
>>12558740i rented it a couple of times, but didn't have the manual so it was pretty much hopeless and i never got far
>>12558740Chrontendo hated this one.
>>12558972At least in this game the theme makes sense. I didn't really envision Hyrule with all the Roman columns everywhere.
Nah it's a great game. Great graphics for its time too. First collage I ever made was for this game which is why the screenshots aren't as good
>>12558740So why are you crying in bitter rage and pain over this game? Is it because you had no friends growing up so you don't even have a minimal conception of how to converse?
>>12559057meds
>>12558962I'd oblige you but I hate CHR RAM games because the graphics are always compressed.
>>12558925Nintendo had a surplus of MMC1s and offered a good price on them? IDK.
>>12558839the only ys game I remember being sidescrolling was ys 3
>>12559049Imagineer mostly specialized in ports of Western computer games to Japanese systems but they were never really that good.
>>12558836>>12558919Majou Densetsu II: Daimashikyou Galious (Maze of Galious), Cosmo Police Galivan, Chester Field, Bio Senshi Dan, Fire Bam, I'd also count Goonies II.The genre already existed before, but Zelda II made it really popular for a short while, especially all throughout 1987 with a few stragglers in 1988.
>>12559189as anon said, these games were so abundant that Battle of Olympus attracted no attention at all and no sales in Japan. it's more remembered in America even though it wasn't a huge seller here either just because the genre wasn't as oversaturated.
>>12559189Out of all these we did get Goonies II so...meh.
>>12558815The fourth game of NESMania.
>>12558962>inb4 some chucklefuck asks for a nude sprite hack of the girlWhy would someone do that? Is there one already? It's not hard to do it one's self but the limited pixels can make it difficult to pull off well.
Played the game, had fun with it, had some frustrating parts like having to grind to get key items and the forest area was a pure chore to navigate through, thank god the devs knew this and gave you a fast travel system later on in the game.
#thankyoufamibot
>>12558942PNG wasn't a popular format back in the early 00s, so people used GIF for lossless screenshots that don't need more than 256 colors
>>12559223Famibot and Australia-kun don't really exist, they're just anon's schizophrenic delusions.
Did I mention the music also isn't as good as the music in Zelda II and Castlevania II?
>>12559049It's alright at best. There's so fucking much bullshit in the game that it makes the Great Palace in Zelda 2 look gentle. I'll just ignore the grinding for olives and salamander skins, since it's not as bad as grinding in Zelda 2, and Castlevania 2 pulls the same shit. But how anyone is expected to locate the hidden doors outside of trying to use the item everywhere, I have no idea. And Crete and the final two areas are just concentrated enemy spam bullshit. It's like the annoying hawk enemies from Ninja Gaiden but there's 3-4 on screen at once chasing you around small platforms and falling is instant death. Don't even get me started on how easy it is to get stun-locked and killed. And the fast-travel system is almost completely worthless, since it usually isn't going to provide you with a quicker route to your goal than just walking. I'll give them credit, the final boss is a really cool concept, but it is annoying as hell. As a kid I made it to the final area, but fell in a pit somewhere, and quit when I realized I was going to have to fight Cerebus before every single attempt at the final area. Cool concept, but god the game could use a romhack to flesh it out a little and fix some of the more bullshit difficulty spikes.PS, fuck Crete and whatever asshole decided it needed a constant flood of soldiers who can take multiple hits on the ground AND ceiling at all times.
>>12559282>Cool concept, but god the game could use a romhack to flesh it out a little and fix some of the more bullshit difficulty spikes.Surprised that the US localization didn't tweak the gameplay balance and try to make things more fair like in some other games.
>>12559282>fuck Crete and whatever asshole decided it needed a constant flood of soldiers who can take multiple hits on the ground AND ceiling at all timesin most of these cases it was the programmers deciding the game was too easy and they wanted to challenge themselves
>>12559447more likely because a 1 megabit game was going to be pretty short unless you artificially padded it out with lots of cheap bullshit
>>12559282The only thing I remember having trouble with was a hidden door at some point. That and I didn't find the heart piece at the top of at tree but for that I felt like I was the dumbass.
>>12560096There's a few hidden doors you need to locate to finish the game. There's the one in the caves you need to access one of the 3 messages as well as travel to one of the late game areas, and another in the cave near the dragon boss that you need to get another one of the 3 messages. There's no hint as to the locations for either one, so the only way to know is to use a walkthrough/map or use the item that reveals hidden doors on every screen. There might be more, but these are the only two I can recall off the top of my head. There's a few other piss-off things in the game. Like how that one god will take the high-jump sandals away from you if you don't have enough olives to afford what he's selling. Or how you need a ton of olives for late-game items like the moonstone, and dying removes half of your olives, and the places where you get those late game items will cause you to die often. At least up until you reach Crete the game is decent fun and more or less fair. Still has some stuff that will annoy you, and if it's your first time you'll spend a lot of time backtracking around trying to figure out where you need to go next.
>>12560765>Like how that one god will take the high-jump sandals away from you if you don't have enough olives to afford what he's sellingdeities are judgement, what do you want? (^:
>>12558740I was really excited to try this game out because I had never heard of it back in the day and I absolutely love Zelda 2. I'm sorry, it's just bad.
