>using continuesHate to break it to you, but you didn't beat the game. Just look at Sonic here. The fact that he even has to be on this screen fills him with disgust. A clear indicator that you did not LEGITIMATELY beat the game.
>>12560820>HateI don't think you actually do. I think you're enjoying it.
if you didn't play Sonic The Hedgehog 1 from start to finish while being waterboarded and slapped by a trucker at each collected ring WITH the good ending, you didn't beat the game. simple as.plebs
>>12560820Fr?
I somewhat agree. I've used in game continues on short games with multiple lives like everyone else but in my mind it's not a legitimate run. I play the SNES version of SMB3 that has saves so I can mess around, and I don't consider it legit because I grew up on the NES version without any saves.Like, let's say you watch someone run smash64 and they use continues on the one player, definitely didn't beat the game.Even though I think some of my own runs aren't "legit," I also don't care.
You earn your continues in Sonic.
>>12560820>used continues>used in game codes>used gameshark codes>used faqs>used maps>used "quality of life" romhack>used aimbot>used wallhacks>used savestatesStill beat it. Cry harder faggot.

>>12560820How is using an in-game resource, something built in to its design by the developers and intended to be used, cheating or "not legit" at all?You guys are losing the plot.
>>12561080This is the correct mindset. You didn't beat the game, so what? You don't have to prove anything to anyone. It's ok not to have beaten the game.
You only really played 25% of Sonic The Hedgehog 315% if I REALLY want to be honest.
>>12560820Continues exist for journalists reviewing a game on a deadline, children, and for you to practice for the 1cc.

You haven't beaten a game if you didn't buy it at launch and see the credits within a month, without using continues, strategy guides, or getting tips from friends.

>>12560820>game gives the same ending regardless of how many continues were usedContinues only really negatively effect score, not game completion itself. A completion with a low score is still a completion.

Going for a 1cc in a short action game or platformer like castlevania or sonic is quite fun. It's like a lil self imposed challenge that's there to give me an excuse to replay a game I like yet again(or multiple times) while also putting my skills in the game to the test. I like it! I actually managed to get a no death run in castlevania a couple of years ago. No savestates or rewind of course, I wanted to keep the tension high! It was very exciting and pleasurable!! Have fun, everyone! ^_^

Reminder that infinite continues used to equal bad game design
>>12563849>floss dances>dabs on you>refuses to elaborate>naruto runs away
Personally I think continues exist so 90s children could complete the games and without it kids would give it up and speed bad word of mouth.I use them sometimes, I don't care, but I think they're only part of the game because of children and shitters. And if I wanted to say, to myself, that I really beat a game, continues would not be allowed.>>12563724>No savestates or rewind of course, I wanted to keep the tension high! This man actually enjoys these things for personal enjoyment. He knows how to game.
>>12563858Strider 2 is a very different case. Iirc, in that port, you continue exactly where you are whenever you die, you never lose progress. It’s not like older games with infinite continues where losing all your lives would at least result in restarting the level/world.
>>12563858Games were $50-$60 dollars back then, which is insane if you account for inflation. No one wanted to pay that much just to beat it in a few hours. People still hated bullshit difficulty, there just had to be a good balance.
>>12560820what if i cheesed to get infinite lives to finish the game
>>12560820You've beaten the game if you see the credits without any external resource.
>didn't go to a physical game store and buy a game solely based on the cover artThat's cheating.
>>12564359Fair, but no cheat codes unless you found them yourself just from pressing the buttons (no analyzing the ROM or RAM). If you find a way to do arbitrary code execution without referencing the source code or anything else that would be fine too.
