>I'll beat this game on my own! No cheating!>Keep dying on stage 2>Realise I don't have time for this shit>Start using save statesAnyone else? I just don't have the time to grind this stuff for half a year. It goes from fun to repetitive and tedious when you have to play the entire game again and again to get past something you were stuck on
>>12561137>It goes from fun to repetitive and tediousSo it's a retro game.
Yes that's what most users on this board do, the "you didn't beat the game" posts are just bantz.
>>12561137shmups are the only genre where savestates are acceptable. they are the most boring to replay. you're always just waiting for shit to happen
>>12561146I wonder if I best it enough using save states will I be able to beat it with no continues eventually
>>12561137If you felt the need to use save states so you could quickly knock the game off your "games to beat" list, then you were never interested in playing it in the first place.
>>12561137>Anyone else?Nah.I engage with games on their terms because the point is to be challenged. That's what I'm there for. I'm not owed completion just for showing up, and if I'm not good enough to win then I don't beat it.Once you remove the possibility of failure, it stops being a game and becomes an eventuality. And that's not fun at all.
>>12561717This guy gets it.
You can permanently ruin a game for yourself by using a savestate even oncePut the crack pipe down.
>>12561923Games aren't some monumental achievement, save states just mean you enjoyed the game in a different way but in no way did you beat it, at best you got the end screen.
Einhander has the mechanic where it saves your gunpods to your save and makes them available from the start, making the early parts trivial. It also makes those gunpods available at every checkpoint after death. It's not the typical rote memorization shmup, there are tools to get you further on repeated playthroughs.
I am the worst shmup player in the world and I beat einhander and UN squadron
>>12561137What are you having trouble with? Stage 2 is the train then the tunnel. The scorpion mini boss just grenade the shit out of it before it even gets to the more stressful phases then the tunnel clanker just grenade the shit out of its face. For everything else like the train turrets, keep a spreader for shooting backwards, a vulcan for shooting forward on a downward angle, and a wasp inverted so the homing missiles catch everything else.
>>12561702Yeah dude, we have to play the game to your expectations and demands
this thread is exactly the reason I use RetroAchievements in hardcore mode
>>12562126Wow. I bet all the ladies are really impressed!
>>12562134well, they probably are, depending on how loosely we define the term "ladies," especially on a site like RA
>>12561137There's nothing wrong with save states. In tiger woods you're only allowed to save after completing an entire 18 rounds of golf. Most players back in 99 probably never got past the 2nd tourney unless they set aside entire weekends just to play it for weeks and weeks. You can get the medal of honor in medal of honor faster than getting half way through the tournament in a tw game. It takes longer to beat then mgs, it's looong
OP, no one gives a shit how you play your game, it is your experience, so enjoy it how you see fit. It seems like you're crying and looking for validation for using save states. 4chan has mind raped you with git gud psy op meme shit.
>>12561137>gahh I just dont have time to learn this properly!>but I still have enough time to play 30 year old videogames and try to justify being a cheating bitch with skill issues to a bunch of strangers on the internet
Saves and quicksave/load were a thing in the 80s for a lot of games. Good luck playing an adventure game like King's Quest without saving and you would still be playing a doomed softlocked save. Doom had save anywhere quicksave/load.For casual play on +30 year old games, oh no my speedroon purity for someone who keeps dying on a difficult section.
>>12561930>you enjoyed the gamesomeone who's enjoying the game doesn't cheat to get it over with fasterit's like saying you liked a book but you only read a summary online
>>12562184>Most players back in 99 probably never got past the 2nd tourney unless they set aside entire weekends just to play it for weeks and weeks.Do you have stats for this? I'd be interested in seeing them.
Guess what............................You didn't beat the game
Disgusting lack of character.
>>12561137I dont use save states because i play on original hardware.
>>12561137Einhander is a shit game so I just wouldn't bother. Save states devalue the experience for me and make me feel like I'm just going through the motions.
>>12561137I only ever save state when i find something odd. Like playing super mario 1 on the nes classic i trigged a weird stage glitch i had never encountered before. Sometimes i will save before certain levels or bosses just to show people.
>>12562113It's not my expectations, it's how they were meant to be played.
>>12561137Some games honestly don't deserve to be beaten fairly.
>another save state seething thread>another thread where half the posts are the same tired strawmen: "y-you didn't beat it!", "y-you just want checklist done!", "y-you just want cheevos!", "if you cheat at game you bad person who cheat elsewhere in life!", "g-go watch let's play instead!"look, if you're still jobless/single/childless in your 30s/40s, that's cool. but not all of us are. i have a family. i have a house. i have other hobbies. if i get more than an hour to myself it's a godsend. i generally try to play by the game's rules but if there's some long runback to a boss that i deem retarded, you damn right i'm using save states. i ain't got time for that shit. i'm not a carefree 8 year old anymore. if it makes adult NEETs upset so be it. seethe away. i'm having fun regardless.
>>12561137>get hit once>reload>get a hit on them>save
>>12564130It's not how the devs played them
>>12564195>writes down a long list of excuses of why they can cheat. You're gay
>>12564248why are you in this thread having a tantrum instead of playing games the "correct" way?
>>12564195Wow, he even used the same tired strawman
>>12561137I was very much against them... now I'm out for work at 5AM and come home at 8PM, on top of chores and other hobbies like art and even posting here with you guys on /vr/ and other boards of my interests... if I try to master everything I play to win fair and square no matter how BS it might be, I'll play a couple of unique titles per year, and I want to play many things. It is what it is. It's not a legit run and my opinions are worth less than those that did it legit, but it's my experience and if it makes sense to me and I enjoy it, then whatever. If you find yoursef not enjoying it though, and find that winning like this isn't fulfilling, then you should avoid it. Also, stop seeking validation, you don't need it and you'll get mocked for it really.
I was playing Castlevania 1, and I got to the end. You really want me to spend my life respawning candles?
>>12561137You just suckSkill issue
>>12564430Being patient is a part of the challenge. The greatest victory is often the one over yourself.
>>12561137>>Realise I don't have time for this shit>I’m a weak wuss who can't beat any tough challenge, so I’ll just use save states to breeze through and see the credits roll, because that’s what I’ve got time for!I bet you don't fuck your wife, instead you enjoy watching other dudes fucking her. You don't have for that, and yet you want to see how she enjoys an orgasm.
I have used save states to learn how to manage some hard challenges in games. But then I always replayed the game from the start without using them. Is cheating a little bit, but at the end you enjoy the game as intended. Also they let you go to sleep/to the bathroom/to eat, just delete them as soon as you load.
>>12564353right back at you bitchboy
