Why does everyone love Jedi Outcast so much? I always see people say it's the best Star Wars game ever made, yet I've tried probably 5 or so times over the past few decades to get into it and I don't get the hype. I say this as a big fan of Dark Forces 1 & 2 as well. Jedi Outcast is insanely convoluted and feels like a chore to play. The hit detection is also dogshit and your blaster shots will just go straight through stormtrooper's bodies most of the time. You can also fail missions easily due to miscellaneous bullshit, like Jan getting killed. I'm a massive old school Star Wars fan and I want so badly to like this game, but I just can't do it. Everyone always says to push through the early levels until you get the lightsaber, but I've never been arsed to make it that far.

All I remember is beating this one and never beating dark forces 2 even though I played 2 way more. I had fun w it, I remember really enjoying it. I need to go back and play it after playing fallen order and compare. I did the same w force unleashed which fallen order is basically an adaptation of, so I’d be interested to see how it holds up compared to the non retro games based on it.

>I'm a massive old school Star Wars fan
But you're not an old school fan of Star Wars

This is the dumbest board on 4chan. This board larps as 40 year old retro fags, but it's just the youngest users from /v/ flocking over asking the most retarded questions imaginable. The site would be better off if it were deleted

There's maybe 3 people here over 30, at best

With all the hype I was really excited to play this after finishing Dark Forces 1&2. It really felt like it was made for a different generation of gamers with the very claustrophobic feeling levels and tiny hallways.

We know, Skyguy

this is probably some kind of bait but otherwise very pathetic. I know they suck but you really couldn't get through a handful of levels cheesing quicksaves?

Maybe fuck off to /v/

I remember having one of these on a dell and playing drunk in college staring in disbelief the first time i chopped off someones head in a star wars game

I worshipped the demo but the actual game is maze-autism garbage with most of the time being about finding where to go.
also it takes too long to get the lightsaber.

academy is much better

Havent played Outcast but the dismemberment in Academy blows my mind to this day. So brutal and satisfying.
>>
>>12563362
I think there was a code to turn dismemberment animations up and it was a slaughter. Also the first game with force powers that felt like the force instead of a standard video game power up. Wish i could remember the name definitively I had the no cutscene ripped version

>hit detection
This and stormtroopers being able to sidestep your extremely slow-moving blaster bolts are pretty much the only flaws in this game, to me. It’s literally a bolt of light, so having it be so slow really shatters the illusion the other games (DF and DF2) did so well.
>>
Wish I could get Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy on my PS3

>>12561834
Maybe just look up codes to start with the lightsaber on Kejim. It's not that immersion-breaking imo

Yeah it's not particularly good. Dark Forces 2 is still pretty playable though. Not sure what else they could've done with Jedi Outcast, but at least the lightsaber mechanics are pretty good.

If you didn't play MP you didn't play the game

Where everyone is somehow older there than here?

Where jk2 really suffers is level and puzzle designs. DF2 had really big, expansive levels with good puzzles and/or difficult routes you had to take. I can think of only a few notable puzzle levels in jk2, and the level designs themselves aren’t particularly inspiring outside of recreating (very well) locations from the original trilogy. Contrast that to df2 where the very first level is essentially a series of puzzles and obstacles with gigantic scale.
