every other popular series just rehash the same game over and over for easy money
Kojima made every MG game plays differently with unique mechanics without taking any shortcuts or cheap cashgrab tactics

this is what a good game director looks like
>>
People used to get excited for new games, you know... than Fallout 4 and MGSV happened......
>>
>>12563816
>Fallout 4
>MGS V
Not retro.
>>
>>12563704
so's Mega Man. big deal.
>>
Snake's Revanche is the only good game on that pic
>>
>>12563704
I wanted to argue with you but you're right. Even MGS2 -> MGS3 changed up a fair bit, and I'd call them the most similar.
>>
>>12563816
MGSV was honestly a step back in the right direction over 4. V and GZ both had some actual fun gameplay.
the only problem with MGSV was the fact they didnt get to finish it. we were on track for getting a real peacewalker+. instead we got a half-finished game in a rly cool engine, and then the konami/kojimbo fallout unceremoniously ended the series forever. the cool engine went to waste completely, and kojima left to go all-in on boring walking simulators and overwrought movie games. cuz hes a dipshit and still doesnt understand why ppl liked MGS in the first place
>>
>>12565205
>Even MGS2 -> MGS3 changed up a fair bit
no way
both have completely different gameplay and mechanics
>>
>>12565680
lmao true
2 is a dog tag collectathon while 3 is a girly flash games compilation
>>
>>12565684
you think you are funny retard?
MGS2 is arcade-y stealth, while MGS3 is survival stealth.
MGS2 has faster pace gameplay, while MGS3 requires you opening menus to change camo, items, weaposn, and even cure yourself.
MGS2 has no food system, while MGS3 does.
MGS2 let's you play with 2 characters, while MGS3 let's you play with only one character.

This. V was fucking awesome despite being being clearly unfinished. If it had all the animals in-game and more side mission variety and an actual ending and all the other shit Kojima had to leave it would have been the best game in the series.

Fucking Konami. I will never not be mad
>>
>>12565714
All MGS games were like that, fake ass trailers, cliffhanger endings, etc. You just weren't around to know...
>>
>>12565230
>>12565714
I'm still convinced that MGSV is intentionally unfinished for the "phantom pain" feeling and it worked really well on me. though yes, I wish we got more content even as DLC
>>
>>12565735
>fake ass trailers
MGS2 trailer was intentional for its core and moral lesson
>cliffhanger endings
MG2, MGS1, MGS3, MGS4, Peace Walker didn't have cliffhanger endings
ironically enough, only MGS2 had one and Kojima wanted to make it the last game
>>
>>12565736
I'm sure Kojima wanted to be fired before he finished the game series he had been working on for 3 decades! He wanted all the lawyers and NDAs too! He wanted to be forced not to show himself in public or discuss MGSV until Konami forced it to be released unfinished!

or... Konami fucked us all by making sure MGS never got an ending

If Konami released a "complete edition" with the Lord of the Flies final mission and some more cassette tapes and legendary hunts and posters for mother base I would shamelessly drop another $60 on it. But I don't think I need to worry about that ever happening
>>
>>12565739
MGS3's E3 trailer shows a very different (better) game.
Ocelot call after credits is a cliffhanger in my book.
Also keep non retro shit out, I don't come here to read game journo misinformation.
>>
>>12565742
Yeah, and that KOTF video miraculously materialized on the collector's edition disc all by itself.

this one?
what's different from the final game?
>>
>>12565754
Yeah, and Metal Gear Survive never happened and Konami's leader didn't say something like "we are leaving video games to focus on gambling machines" while advertising MGS3 pachinko machines...

You need to get angry.
It's your duty as a gamer and MGS fan to be furious over this and never give Konami another cent.

My point is, KOTF being cut was decided looong before release. Usually cut content is kept secret, shown here and there in some art books, but featuring a whole video about a cut mission as a big feature is very different. It shows intent. All the fake crap about chapter 3 and muh solid snake vs big boobs only fanned the flames. A whole lot of serendipity.
I do, however, look forward to new MGS without the ol 'jima, it's what he wanted for years after all.

>>12563816
Not retro. And both are really great and fun games.

>cliffhanger endings
They all leave room for sequels but 2 is the only one that really leaves major plot points unresolved. Hell, 4 is the most definitive THIS IS THE END ending in vidya history. They spent like 3 fucking hours resolving *everything* that had ever come up in the entire series.

Whereas with 5...I mean, can we even say what the ending is? Is it the Sahelanthropus mission? Most people unlock a quiet exit after that. Kinda weird to get new story missions after the ending, no? Is it the man who sold the world? It's a big reveal, yeah, but you get it after replaying the first mission again and it's not a conclusion. It's like the game just loops back on itself. I almost feel like the final Paz scene is the actual ending in the sense that that's V finally coming to terms with his trauma and moving on but again, the game just keeps going and that scene will happen for different people at different times and some people might never unlock it at all.

I feel like the game never officially being over is a little of what >>12565736 is talking about but given all the other clearly missing and unfinished shit in the game I find it difficult to attribute the lack of any definitive ending to intent rather than circumstance. I feel like all the other kind of ending-ish scenes are what they settled for, but not what was supposed to happen. It was leading somewhere and it never got there. The rest of the games ended where they were supposed to

Non-linear storytelling and an unreliable narrator was a bit too much for 3fags, I see...

He wanted to hand it off to somebody else, yes, but somebody competent that he trusted, not current-era Konami lackeys.

They're just going to slap a coat of paint on MGS1 and add a bunch of microtransactions to it. Did Delta actually improve anything about MGS3?
>>
The ending for MGSV is Metal Gear on MSX2
>>
>>12565848
In name only. The MSX games have been retconned so much at this point that the only parts still canon are what relates to Snake, Grey Fox, and Big Boss, and even that's been completely rewritten over the years.
>>
It is very weird how Metal Gear 2 takes place in a completely different history and universe with Oilix and whatever and every other game pretends that never came up

New MG team are vets from early KJP days, Okamura and Korekado are two big-ish names.
Delta is interesting. They picked different aspects from different releases combining them together like most of the bonus stuff from Subsistence, modern camera and controls from 3D, muh grafix from Pachinko. One big improvement is reduction of fuckig menuing, lots of submenus got merged and shortcuts added. I didn't like original Snake Eater so to me having the same story and structure wasn't exactly a selling point.
Not sure how they'll handle MGS1 remake, hopefully they won't at all since it's a clusterfuck of all sorts of different issues.

does anyone know the genre of MG1/MG2/MGS music?
they sound so dreamy, futuristic, and very comfy. especially the VR arrangements
>>
>>12565230
>>12565714
Imagine if Kojima was planning to continue V with remakes of MG1 and 2 but leaving Konami left V the way it is
>>
>>12565971
I still have dreams about the version of MGSV where Big Boss goes full villain, the credits rolls, and then you hear David Hayter say
>This is Solid Snake. Commencing Operation Intrude N313!
as a full Fox Engine remake of MG1 begins.
>>
>>12563704
Man, I can't believe we're getting MGS4 in August. It will be my first time playing it. Between this and RPCS3 getting way better to the point where even my toaster was able to play Demon Souls, I can finally say I'm done with PS3 and I never even owned one
>>
>>12565230
This kind of opinion really bothers me because it implies something incomplete can't be great. You are kinda right that it's incomplete, but at the same time, it's a fucking 80-hour game compared to the prequels which are 6-8 hours

I played MGSV for like 100 hours, realized there was nothing left to do or find or develop, deleted my save and 100%'d it again. No regrets.

The funny thing is that the stuff I had in my online inventory from the first save file showed up as soon as I reached a certain point in the game the second playthrough so I accidentally created a new game plus mode.
