"Dude, Yoshi’s Story is like, totally sick, man. The problem is you’re just too smooth-brained to get it. It’s not some baby sequel to Yoshi’s Island, nah dude, it’s a straight-up score attack beast. People wanted ‘Yoshi's Island Part II’ but instead they got this arcade-style masterpiece and they couldn’t handle the vibes. That’s on them, not on Yoshi, bro."
>>12564669And we wanted a proper Super Mario World 2 and got gay dinosaur babysitter, karma is a bitch huh?
>>12564670Okay dude, listen up: Yoshi’s Island is basically part of Super Mario World. In SMW, Mario’s the hero saving the Yoshis, but in Yoshi’s Island it flips the script: the Yoshis are the ones saving baby Mario. That’s like, galaxy-brain storytelling, man. It’s a prequel disguised as a sequel, same trick Lufia pulled that year, and even Rockstar did it later with Red Dead Redemption and RDR2 (yeah yeah, not retro, whatever). But here’s the kicker: Yoshi’s Story? Totally different beast. It’s not about the island at all, it’s just a goofy excuse plot so you can dive into one of the greatest score attacks ever.
>>12564669Who are you quoting?
Yoshis Story defenders are genuinely brain dead. It's the worst Nintendo game ever made. The concept is fundamentally flawed, the only objective is to eat 30 fruits and they're everywhere. The levels are all super easy because it's a game for babies and playing all of the levels is a chore because it requires multiple playthroughs. Now I'm sure someone's going to mention the 30 melon challenge that makes the game more challenging. This is the absolute worst way to play the game and it's so obscenely tedious and frustrating that I don't think it's even something the devs intended for you to do. Many melons are just hidden in the ground and the only way to find them is to walk slowly while holding down the sniff button, which also zooms the screen all the fucking way in and you can't see anything but Yoshi. This is already annoying but then the rest of the melons are hidden behind some puzzles that aren't very clear(push these 3 identical blocks into eachother in a specific order, in a game where you don't push any other blocks) or require you to win an admittedly challenging mini game that you can't reattempt without entirely starting over. Some melons are freebies places amongst other fruit BUT if they happen to land ontop of another fruit Yoshi will ALWAYS prioritize eating the fruit you don't want thus killing your run and forcing a restart. What do you even get for completing this dogshit challenge on every level? Literally nothing. It just gets you a bigger score and the only thing score does is VERY SLIGHTLY CHANGE THE WORDING of the text during the ending cutscene. "The super Happy Tree was back. They jumped for joy with their fruity snack." becomes "Yoshis were happy as could be. The heroes danced before the tree". That's it, that's all you get for enduring this shit. Fuck anyone that likes this game.
>>12564691Me, 1998.
>>12564694>The concept is fundamentally flawed, the only objective is to eat 30 fruits and they're everywhere. The real goal is to eat 30 melons. See? You don’t even know what you’re talking about.
>>12564669What's so weird to me is that every Yoshi followup completely misses the edge that the original game had. Yes, it had an art style that was reminiscent of a kid's drawings. But the thing is, kids' drawings are often energetic, chaotic, and sometimes harsh, something which the original game captured wonderfully. The music also has a cheery vibe most of the time, but wasn't afraid to get dark and edgy when it was called for.The followups almost always fuck this up, in one way or another. The art typically looks less like something inspired by the art of kids, rather art that is MADE for kids, just bland and inoffensive. Same thing with the music, sounding like crib tunes. At least some of the games, like Yoshi's Island DS and Yoshi's New Island maintained some of the difficulty, neither of them came close to capturing that specific charm of the original, and given that the new Yoshi game looks like it was made for literal 3 year olds, I think the Yoshi's Island series is truly dead.
>>12564686Yeah I don't care about the wow epic narrative crap, imagine if Red Dead Redemption 2 was a turn based jrpg instead of a proper gta style game like the firtst game, that's what they did with Yoshi island
>>12564702Both Super Mario World and Yoshi’s Island are straight-up platformers, anon. That’s the deal. And then you come in with this goofy example of an RPG sequel to a free roam action-adventure? Dude, that’s just brain-melt stupid.Get the fuck out.
>>12564703Yoshi Island plays nothing like Mario though, it's no Super Mario World 2. Kinda hypocrite you are crying about Yoshi Story doing the same thing Yoshi island did to SMW
>>12564669There are no good Yoshi games, not even the original Yoshi's Island. I personally heavily dislike when 2D games put an emphasis on collectibles. It makes you go against your natural drive to want to just get to the end of the level, however if you just ignore the collectibles then the levels become pretty empty feeling and boring. But then if you actively seek out all of the collectibles the game becomes tedious and annoying and the pacing becomes too slow. I'm okay with a few collectibles, the star coins in NSMB for example are alright, but Yoshi's Island with 5 flowers, 20 red coins, and then also having to do it all without taking damage so you have the maximum amount of star points, for every single level, is simply too much. It's a bad game any way you play it.
>>12564697You either can't read or are unfunny. Either way you're retarded.
>>12564694Agreed. But DK64 defenders are worse.
>>12564765I wrote that post and I like DK64.
The n64 has one of the most dogshit libraries of all the mainstream retro consoles. Firing up a flashcart with a full romset makes it abundantly clear. You get platformers, an assload of sports games, the handful of genuinely good titles like zelda and that's fucking it.
>>12564774>The n64 has one of the most dogshit libraries of all the mainstream retro consolesIt didn't get better though in b4 someone defends this 2 hour rental fodder
>>12564669I agree. Yoshis story is ludo kino but only for high iq individuals.

>>12564775At least Gamecube put effort into some unique experiences. It has a small library but it's got rpgs, pikmin 1 and 2 are great, melee is probably the 2nd best smash, super monkey ball, eternal darkness, the best Mario party's, the list goes on. It aged tremendously better than 64 which is hard carried by zelda and mario 64.

My cousin would make fun of me for liking Yoshi's Story saying it was a game for babiesNow he's gayThink about this story.
>>12564669Yoshis Story is a weird case.Buried in there is a good platformer with an interesting mechanic, bogged down by a few bad decisions and overly cutesy artstyle. The levels should not be unlockable but simply have to be played through one after the other, YI style, because the problem is that you can then only expeience the largest part of the content after a at least one playthrough. Nobody is gonna play a home game like this for the score, we are not in an arcade. Unlock something with the score, a level as in YI is always a good reward. You have a game that can be potentially very challenging, but only if you do self imposed limitation runs, with the normal gameplay if you don't care about the score being too piss easy, espacially considering that the score doesn't give you anything. There are some pretty cool elements in there and a genuinely interesting artstyle but the game is simultaniously too easy and painfully tedious when going for highest score. Then there is of course the super cutesy artstyle, Kirby does this right by on the surface being all cutesy and cuddly but then later in the game showing a dark undertone usually manifesting as some cosmic horror.Story on the other hand has some spooky art assets but it always still keeps overly cutesy, with baby yoshis having to eat their happy oh lucky fruit from their happy oh lucky tree in toddler popup book style. You can tell someone as much as you want that "Actually, there is a challenging game for adulats in there, it's not just for babies, honest", but then you finish a level and the baby yosihis in their squeaky voices sing about the asshole for a minute - and then the room turns silent...
>>12564694>it's so obscenely tedious and frustratingkek get better
>>12564694Do you know the "you haven't beaten the game until you did the melon challenge" defense is actually from Nintendo Power.
>>12566094NP is only saying that to cope with the fact that there's almost no N64 games worth a damn, and they sure as hell can't speak ill of a first-party game.

>"Dude, Yoshi's island is totally a hardcore game, bro. It's the peak of its franchise because its absolutely not a baby game with its only difficulty based around 100%ing the levels. The graphics aren't 3D or cute wool or papercraft but it looks like a color book! It has no plot to speak of but its better than Yoshi's Island DS because look at the yoshis on this world map! . It was so much better than any other game"
>>12564774(Not true, by the way)
