>Hit arcade beat 'em up
>Bland 16-bit console sequels (2)
>Memorable 8-bit spinoff
>Failed pivot to arcade fighting game (ported to SS)
>Godawful 6th gen gritty reboot
Considering what that they DON'T have in common, which IP was less horribly mismanaged?

Golden Axe, Gaiden, and Ax Battler are absolute kino.
>>
I'm gonna say Final fight simply because I have been exposed to the franchise more. So I just assume it was managed better because of relevance.

Final Fight. Final Fight was always going to be just another (good) beat 'em up franchise. Golden Axe on the other hand had the potential to be SEGA's Zelda.

This and Golden Axe: Beast Rider doe

The only thing saving Final Fights relevancy is the characters being crammed into Street Fighter.

Golden Axe got a GREAT but sadly overlooked arcade sequel, which is way more than anything FF got in terms of true followups.

On the other hand, FF got a second life as part of Street Fighter which made for a fun shared universe (though that hardly counts as part of the "series" of course).

Golden Axe was botched much worse but has more games worth playing (1-3, TRoDA, Warrior, Ax Battler). Sega could easily give it the Streets of Rage 4 treatment but no, because Sega reasons.
Final Fight at least continues to exist in some capacity within the Street Fighter series.

I don't want to see the Golden Axe 4 that Guard Crush would have shat out after Absolum. There's not an ounce of testosterone left in those French boys, sad to say.
>>
Considering that golden axe's best game never got a home port until recently, final fight wins be default

When did Revenge of Death Adder get a home port?
>>
Overall Final Fight had more impact. Even if you think FF2 and 3 are bland, at least FF2 was a huge seller, and 3 tried to freshen things up a bit with multiple paths, though obviously an SNES game released in late 1995/early 1996 was too late to ever be relevant.

I thought FF and Splatterhouse had a lot of similarities with the chibi 8-bit spinoff and console-exclusive sequels, didn't realize Golden Axe was closer though you're forgetting Revenge of Death Adder

I think he is talking about the Astro City Mini and Arcade1Up cabs. Those are the first official home releases but they are not ports, just emulation.
