>released in late '99/early '00

What the hell were they thinking?
>>
>fuck the N64
>>
They were thinking it would be funny to piss you off 26 years later
>>
>Bro, this game sucks ass. We're not putting it on a console anyone cares about anymore.
>>
They were thinking let's doing something beyond based

They got ten years of support out of the Famicom/NES. They were probably just trying to repeat that for the 16-bit system. They were also re-releasing older games digitally at the time, I think.

Yeah, Thracia was released exclusively for the Nintendo Power service, which was a really cool way to keep support for the Super Famicom running despite the next gen being out.

>Thracia was released exclusively for the Nintendo Power service
And then it proved so successful (given the circumstances) that Nintendo gave it a full retail release with some further refinements.

Priestess of Darkness / The Binding Blade was in development hell and so Intelligent Systems threw together Thracia 776 using Geneology of the Holy War's engine and assets to squeeze some life out of the Super Famicom.

If the hardware was still capable of realizing the director's vision, then why not? Pushing old hardware to its limits, even long after it's been superceded, is cool as fuck.

Take The Lost World for Sega Genesis (released in 1998) for example.

apparently there was alot of behind the scenes drama that affected the fire emblem games to the point where the og creator left and made his own game for PS1 only for Nintendo to sue.

There's something romantic about the probability of someone buying this from their local game store and breaking out their old SNES to play it on a Friday night in the year 2000. I wish the 2D sprite and chiptune era never ended, man.
