>community PC port of gamecube game comes out>everyone mindlessly says "uncapped frame rate" over and over like the seagulls in Finding Nemo>still not as good as just playing the WiiU remaster in CEMUall, for nothing at all...
Realistically, what's the difference aside from the textures? And it supports texture packs anyway.
>>12567367>what's the difference aside from texturesthe port doesn't have anti-aliasing and you're stuck with the dogshit Gamecube version of the UI which is obnoxious to remap to modern AB/XY controllersevery 4K texture pack just makes the game look weird and uncanny, the textures in the WiiU version were the perfect blend of bumping it up without adding too much extra detailon-screen text is awkwardly sized and it still looks like a pre-HD game that just had its aspect ratio expanded, while the WiiU version resizes things properly for a modern HD displayall the hype for the port has seemingly come from broke brownoids excited that they can get the game running on their free-with-contract Android phones and shitty laptops
What's the best version if I wanna play on OG hardware?Gamecube, Wii or Wii U?
>>12567382>all the hype for the port has seemingly come from broke brownoids excited that they can get the game running on their free-with-contract Android phones and shitty laptopsThat's the case with every decompilation. There's literally no reason to care about them if you have a decent PC and know how to use emulators.
>>12567364why'd they port this shit and not the cel shaded one? i fuckin hate ps2 level "realism"
>>12567424honestly the Wii U just because the game is in native HD and the console's video output is regular HDMI. both the Gamecube and the Wii require composite-to-HDMI adapters and the game will be grainy 480p in 4:3>>12567440I wanted to be charitable at first but the amount of people posting tickets complaining about mouse/keyboard support and lack of touch input made me rememberthat being said people are getting it to work on the PS5 with a DualSense UI mod which is actually cool as shit>>12567441apparently Wind Waker is in an advanced stage of decomp and I wouldn't be surprised if a port hits by the end of the yearproblem is that just like the Twilight Princess one the port will be based on the Gamecube version too, so all the same issues apply. the HD remaster is just a better experience across the board simply because of the reworked UI for the Pro Controller which applies to the Xbox/PS controllers too
The Wii U port is fucking hideous. Leave it to a retard contrarian on this board to pretend it's better than a direct source port of the original game.
>>12567382You can force AA, it's a PC game.I guess I don't mind the original HUD because that's how I played it.
>>12567460retard, everyone agrees it's the definitive version, you're just a shitty contrarian
>>12567473Nobody except your retarded self thinks it's good, especially now that the original game is ported by fans.
So the takeaway is, wait until issues are fixed and there's mods that bring in all the best bits of all versions.
>>12567452Wind Waker's HD remaster is kinda ugly and has bloom out of the ass. And the original has a gorgeous and authentic texture pack:https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-hypatia-s-tloz-the-wind-waker-hd-pack-v2-0001aAnd I say this as someone who finished WWHD on CEMU after dropping the OG halfway through. The OG's main problems are bad QoL and the slow ass sailing, which I'm sure will be addressed in a fan port.>>12567460OP is a faggot, but TPHD is probably the best official version, it has a hard mode, you can play mirrored or not, you can play with traditional controls + gyro. It's a native 1080p widescreen etc. I think the only fuck up is Epona's shadow disappearing when the camera zooms out too much because they forgot to adjust the shadow draw distance for her lmao
>>12567481the port has an impressive settings menu, if it had launched with presets to change the UI depending on your controller or options to resize elements like the map to make them more in line with a modern HD game, I'd have no issue with itI'm still dying on the hill that the remaster's textures are the best it'll ever be and all the fan-made 4K packs are just trying way too hard>>12567484I'll give you that on Wind Waker. the revamped lighting system in the remaster looks good for what it is but it's straying way too far from the original look of the game. I didn't realize it at first because I didn't have a Gamecube as a kid and only beat the game as an adult in CEMU on Steam Deck. getting the original game up and running was too annoying compared to how seamlessly the remaster booted upnow if the port launched with a toggle that had both the original shading and a facsimile of the remaster shading, that would be something
>>12567460I think the HD textures in some ways expose how primitive and flat the world is. The original textures are muddy and limited but its almost part of the charm.
>>12567507this. too high res textures on lower poly models usually look weird
sorry to intrude on your toilet paper thread but I've been looking to replay the gamecube version on a wii I've got. Will any chinkywinky amazon power/AV cables do? I have a CRT.Definitely going to be using the strategy guide I still have kicking around, but moreso just to look at what little art is in it from back then. Came out around the ass-end of soulful strategy guides so it's lacking in the cool art department usually, but I'll be damned if it won't just be fun to poke around in, see how many bugs I can find before I browse it to see ones I missed.
>>12567364>>12567382>>12567424>>12567452The Wii U remaster was shite that fucked up the lighting. It's the classic remaster tale.
>>12567364God those fucking "HD" textures. Is it grass or spinach ?
>>12567367hero mode and reduced ToL segments, and I think they borked horse controls
>>12567367TPHD has:>worse lighting>broken effects>tasteless HD textures>random botw advertisment>wrong control layout>shitty camera controls>casualised gameplay>useless chests with useless items
>>12567424Wii has better aiming and widescreen, so I go with that.
>>12567481Basically all it needs is some UI touchup to make it more intuitive to use with regular controllers>>12567849you sound like a bitch
>>12567364For all the TPHD zoomers ITT:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JK4zrJwYtSkYep, you played the worst version. You didn't beat the game. Repent.
>>12567441I remember hearing that there was a late-stage debug build of Twilight Princess that made it easier to decompile, or something like that. But Twilight Princess' engine is the same or a modified version of Wind Waker's, so having the former decompiled might make it easier to decompile the latter.
>>12567849Honestly, I prefer the 'useless' stamps in TPHD, since at least they're kinda neat art to look at even though any Miiverse functionality is long gone.I prefer getting a bit of art over yet another chest with a big rupee that I need to put back and leave my chest autism unquenched.Changing it so you could transform without mashing through dialogue boxes is also a very nice improvement to the controls. The Hard mode is rudimentary but I appreciate that they at least acknowledged how easy the original is. Most romhackers / modders for games like this go a little too far with 'hardcore' mods for my taste.Otherwise, I agree that the HD version has a lot of flaws but those three things make it a little better to replay than the OG.
>>12567478Trying too hard. The consensus has always been that TP HD is the best version of the game, while WW HD has nice QoL but it looks worse due to the lighting changes.
>>12567849>wrong control layout
>>12567937He doesn't say any of that in the video and maintains that TPHD is the best version.
>>12567865Everyone in this thread sounds like a bitch, complaining about a PC port when Wii U emulation still exists, acting like one deleted the other, is a retarded bitch move. It’s not like there needs to be a competition.
>>12567937>>12568254stop downloading opinions from youtube and play the game
how come none of these trannyslop decomps support jp language?
>>12567364toilet princess hd also looks worse than the original. But twilight princess is NOT a game you play for the art or graphics lmao it looks HIDEOUS on wii/gc.
>>12568284Some do, I use Starship to play SF64 subbed
>>12568284You posted this in English, so clearly the English version is sufficient for you.
The HD visuals seem like the reverse of what the OG game was going for. Feels like TP was consciously designed around knowing the final would look muddy and compressed
>>12567768>ToL segmentsi have no idea what the fuck you're talking about, stop making up acronyms
>>12568507okay it's "tears of light", but I don't know how you expect me to remember what that crap was called, BY ACRONYM, when it's been almost 2 decades since I played through the entirety of this game
>>12568513stop getting mad about your alzheimers, gramps
>>12568524>grampsWe don't say that anymore, unc.
>>12568538>>12568524
So apparently there's TWO different PC ports? From what I can gather, the Dusklight port achieves a higher FPS through frame interpolation while Courage Reborn achieves a higher FPS through delta time. The former is still going to have the input lag of 30 FPS, so I don't think it would be pleasant at 60+ FPS.
>>12568609Also I think this just proves that Twilight Princess is the Chad's Zelda game, because there's no autistic flamewarring between the two projects (COUGH COUGH, THE MAJORA PROJECTS) and they actually collaborate together.
>>12568524fuck you nerd
>>12567364You can just put the HD textures in this thing anyway.
>>12568859i put hd textures in your mother
The PC port is easily the best way to play it and it's only even been out for a few days. You can already pretty easily make it look and play like all 3 official versions of the game, or take it a step further and make your own custom version. I'm sure with a few months of updates you'll be able to take it even further and get more granular customization options too. I love that it already has a damage multiplier, the original games difficulty and how basically everything only does a quarter of a hearts worth of damage was always one of my biggest problems with it and this lets you fix that. OP must be a retard, you can already put the Wii U textures into this port and enable some of the other good changes that version made while getting benefits like the lighting and other things not being broken. And I mean, yeah, the game running above 30fps now is pretty huge. It's a great port, go fuck yourself OP.
>>12568615The problem with the two Majora's Mask ports was that one was complete dogshit and was(and still is) broken and bad while the other one was perfect and clearly superior. For some reason the bad one had a bunch of fanboys defending it with their life and attacking others for noticing it's issues. Not gonna lie, the other TP PC port already looks like an inferior product compared to this Dusk one, but we'll see.
>>12568882majora's mask 3ds wasn't good
>>12568882>compared to this Dusk oneDelta time seems better to me than interpolation
>>12568917He's not talking about Majora's Mask 3DS; he's talking about the multiple fanmade attempts to port Majora
>>12568615>>12568882>The problem with the two Majora's Mask ports was that one was complete dogshit and was(and still is) broken and bad while the other one was perfect and clearly superioranyone who shills for Ship of Harkannan is a fag considering how pitch perfect the recomps have been so farnow what's taking so long in getting Ocarina of Time into the launcher
>>12569186I cant believe Shit of Harkinian is still refusing to embrace the recomp framework. Their ports are so bad one of the guys that helped them put out their starfox port left the team and just made a recomp that shits on theirs. Their Mario Kart port is especially horrible and is basically abandonware. Recomps are the future, theyre easier to make and outperform this other stuff.
>>12568919I really don't get the hate on interpolation. It can look weird on games that have especially low framerates and not many frames of animation, but games like Twilight Princess there's enough there for it to work with that it looks fine. It's going to take a ton of work to convert every single thing to delta time and even once they do, if they do, they're going to have to manually verify it all works and are probably going to spend potentially the rest of the ports active development time putting out patches to further fix it because there's absolutely no way they get it all correct right off the bat. I've seen other fan projects for games attempt to do the same thing and nobody can ever seem to completely get it done.
>>12568919Converting games to delta time is hard. RE4HD is an example of a professionally delta time conversion and tons of shit in that port is just randomly broken.
>>12568859I saw that on Game Banana, someone already back ported the remaster textures. Now if someone can fix the UI buttons, Dusk will be perfect>>12569236the "interface" in Harkinian is my go-to example when I need to explain to zoomers how tech neckbeards make things deliberately unintuitive and unfriendly to use out of sheer autism
>>12569348What's unfriendly about SoHs interface? It's not pretty and a bit cluttered I guess but everything is separated into easy to understand categories and every option tells you what exactly it affects when you hover over it. I'm not even defending the port, it has a lot of technical issues and I would much prefer a recomp, but all of the features SoH has built in are really great.
>>12569348>Now if someone can fix the UI buttonshttps://www.henrikomagnifico.com/zelda-twilight-princess-4k
>>12569478yikes
>>12568870Should i play with 2x damage for my first playthrough?
>>12567364>like the seagulls in Finding NemoYou have to go back.
>>12569626that movie's older than you are
>>12569463It's one of those cases where all the features and menuing are built for people who know what they're looking for in the game as a big, basic, unpleasant heap of options and configure toggles with at best a mouseover blurb that only actually explains SOME things and not others. If you're not an OoT autist, if you don't know how to configure graphics settings properly besides F11 for fullscreen toggle, etc etc, it's a gigantic pain in the ass to actually figure on unless you just stick to presets, which don't even fully explain what they're changing either. This goes triple down for the touted randomizer configuration. To folks like us it's not a big deal, but it's virtually anti-newbie in its entirety. If we follow the MM recomp by comparison, it's borderline set and forget simplicity with relatively standard and explained PC options, straightforward picks for QoL, and leaves more extensive things and scripting to modders for those seeking that. There's room for both types of menus and designs, but I can't ever really propose Ship to an average person who isn't already autistic about the respective games unless I'd be stepping them through the config.
Are there model replacements yet? Can I turn Midna into a giant flying ass?
>>12569463>What's unfriendly about SoHs interface?Legitimately, if you actually have to ask you are so long gone it isn't even worth explaining. There are not only a bazillion different sub menus, but even the most 'basic' options are shit you couldn't possibly understand the implications of unless you not only already 100% the game but have actively followed the development of the port and why it does all the weird stuff it does, which constantly rearranges everything. There's not even an angle to get into navigating the basic options without already understanding how everything would actually affect your playthrough. There's so much random crap that may or may not unbalance the experience that you have no way of knowing what you could tweak without fucking up some actually fundamental aspect of the game. You have to basically trust the judgement of the devs that the options in a given category are 'fair game', and they give no reason to justify this and pool in whatever bizarre thing that happened to be easy to mod in that somebody wanted credit for.The sense you get when you pop in the cart into the console and basically know that you are playing the actual game the devs intended is gone when you have that level of crap to mess with, and it's even worst with how badly explained most shit is.Recomp's strategy of making an accurate to game port, letting you set the screen size, decide whether you want some core gameplay setting to be accurate to the OG or more like a modern re-release (like note saving in BK), and then regulating absolutely everything else to opt in mods is so much less of a hassle. That way each mod setting is forced to explain and justify itself and any change it makes, and you don't even have to download shit ego boosting gimmick mods if you don't want them cluttering up your menu.
>>12567367The WiiU version was built off the Gamecube version so there's not much different. Lighting engine was tweaked but there's little difference, harder difficulty option with a mirrored world, and togglable motion controls for things like the bow.
>>12570643i think this port has all of those things
>>12570632SoH's options are pretty clearly intended for people who have already played Ocarina and not newcomers. To anyone who's played it before the vast majority of the options make sense.
>port releases >72 hours there's already a steaming chud on 4chan seething about it
>>12570632The same goes for the classic Sonic decomps, they have like 100 settings and toggles, which is just off-putting, because you've no idea what combination of those is the "real game". I don't know why fans keep doing this.
>>12570887The absolute worst is when the game doesn't just default to the vanilla settings. Everyone knows about how bad ZDoom is in this regard, but now TRX defaults to enabling sprinting in TR1 and TR2, fucking why? This goes for the recomps too btw, why the fuck would you build a game ruining cheat like note saving into BK and then enable it by default, because a shitty 360 port did so? What an awful thing to do a game you supposedly love.
>>12571360>This goes for the recomps too btw, why the fuck would you build a game ruining cheat like note saving into BK and then enable it by defaultThat is a problem for both BK and MM (where the latter defaults to have auto-perma owl saves) that the recomps don't get criticized enough for. Having the option there is fine, but having it be a default is very unjustified.
>>12568461>trannylationinsufficient to even wipe my ass with
