>EinhanderThis game is too hard. Very promising game with amazing story ruined by extremely tough and unfortunate gameplay!>Ape escapeUhh.. boring>Burnout 2This was more fun back in 2002>TenchuYeah I ain't even bothering with this one. Clunky shit>SSX Tricky + 3Yeah it's fun I guess but what's the point really. Just wasting time, I could get on a bike and go downhill more funTl;Dr most old games seems to suck now tbqh>Tekken 3 is still fun though. Wish we got an online version on steam or something. Awesome game. Still holds up today.I also feel like n64 party games like smash bros, mario kart hold up much better than playstation stuff. Unfortunately you really do need the original hardware and a crt for N64, unlike playstation
>>12567703>Tekken 3 is still fun though. Wish we got an online version on steam or something.Fightcade or RetroArch. Next question. Also, play Crash and Spyro trilogies plus Crash Team Racing, if you want something like Nintendo but on PS1.
>>12567703you should have stuck with einhander but you're a shitter. you got filtered out of a good experience
>frog thread
>>12567726>Fightcade>RetroarchI CBA go go through 10 steps reading guides or go on github nerd quests. Sorry but it's a barrier for me.
>>12567726Those recs are decent though. Played spyro 1 back in the day and CTR. Unfortunately I do think mario64 and mario kart64 are overall much classier and smoother games. PS1 is janky as fuck.
>>12567728I am strongly thinking about giving einhander another go because it has the best aesthetic and story I've seen in many years. Such a simple concept really brilliant heart moving story it's my first shoot em up so maybe I wasn't expecting to die so much and complete it in a few attempts but seriously how long will it take for me to actually git gud it seems like an impossible task with a billion projectiles and lasers chasing you every second The hardest game I've ever beat is probably devil may cry 1+ 3 on normal lol I'm not a "gamer"
>>12567728I also feel like I might grow to hate the game if I become overly frustrated with it and have to keep replaying it
>>12567736>I do think mario64 and mario kart64 are overall much smoother gamesNah Crash and CTR have better framerate Tendies trying to rewrite history again
>>12567752But the movement itself is incredibly stiff and janky
>>12567743if it's your first shmup it's better to play a more straightforward game then. most people's first real 1cc for an arcade game on the easier side takes 20-50 hours. look at it like a jrpg except at the end you have better skill that transfers over to every other game. my first one cc's were mushihimesama original, magical chase, and nostradamus. if you just want babby's first clear go for a cute em up of choice. pc engine has a shit ton.other retro hasnt been able to keep my attention as well as STG games. if you get good at them there are dozens of classics you get to experience for the first time. I was like you and swore off retro until I understood them, now it's all i play.
>>12567772Strange question and not trolling but do you think mastering these games made you more efficient in real life in any sense or did it take you farther out of reality? like do you believe it increased your reaction times and the way your brain works? Or just made you slow + brain dead irl? When I play these games and return to real world I often feel kind of dazed and stupid in the short term but heard so many people saying gaming increases your reaction time hand to eye coordination etc So all "cute em ups" are generally easy? I didn't even know the genre existed. Maybe I'll try one of them then go back to einhander lol
>>12567778I guess it depends on what your vocation is and what your real life hobbies are. I also play rhythm games and those are proven to increase your reading speed, I can imagine STG games are similar. I'm into learning languages, I speak a few difficult languages and spend a lot of time with words. Shmups help me take a break from that and work a different part of the brain. If you have a bureaucratic life where there is no objective measure of skill I don't see how it would be helpful though. But this philosophy of "everything must have a utility" is an arbitrary Victorian era social construction stemming from unchecked neocapitalism. I believe leisure is the greatest good and there is nothing wrong with simply doing things for the sake of doing them.
>>12567703You played all shit games unironically
>>12567734I feel your thousand mile gen z stare from here. I'm amazed you aren't filtered by captchas alone.
>>12567943I'm a grown man who is tired from work, family life and obligations. I don't have the energy to be setting up programs like some neet with too much time on his hands. Sorry just being honest with you.>>12567894Yeah I don't believe everything has to have a utility just wondering because I don't feel Ive ever truly tried to increase my "gaming ability" but stuff like reading and playing instruments definitely makes my brain feel different in a good way
>>12567926Name some good games kind sir
>>12567963I'm in the same boat. It's hard to believe another "family man" can be given a solution to something they want and then do nothing because they don't have 10 minutes to learn it. RIP any drive your kids may have before looking up to you (assuming that's that you meant by family life.) Another house hold raised by Italian Brain Rot.On a serious note, a dad needs time to decompress. If retro isn't your hobby then find something that is. We are already drained as it is. No point in posting nothing burger threads otherwise.

If you didn't grow up playing retro games, you'll never understand them. People like us have been spoiled by decades of innovation that it's difficult to go back without rose-tinted glasses. The only retro games I can stomach are puzzle games like Puyo and shmups like Gunbird . Maybe the occasional JRPG, but anything that from the early days of 3D vidya, with clunky controls and dither wobble gets a big fat "nope" from me. Try sticking to 2D games. They're timeless and much easier to play.
>>12569490I'm a zoomer and i love retro gamesYou just don't love video game anymore that's okay but ne honest
>>12567703Skill issue.
>>12567703give ratchet deadlocked a try>great variety of weapons>movement has aged gracefully>extremely streamlined progression>non-serious setting>skippable cutscenes>good mix-up of "on-foot" gameplay and vehicle-sections>new-gamePlus>very easy to just pick up whenever and start blasting
