>—In deciding to release a Castlevania game for the x68000, what was your overall design concept?>Hideo: First, we all thought that the original Castlevania for the Famicom was the best one. So while were aware that this would, in terms of its system, be a rather old-fashioned game, throughout the development we kept in our sights the goal of taking the best elements of the Famicom Castlevania. Another design concept was to fully utilize the abilities of the x68000 hardware, for graphics and so forth. In the middle of the development the x68030 model was released, so naturally we wanted it to work on that system too. As such there’s a few sections where some subtle differences will be apparent to new owners of the x68030, like places where the animation is smoother.Bloodlines, Rondo of Blood and Super Castlevania sisters..
>>12567760What game is this?
>>12567760>we all thought that the original Castlevania for the Famicom was the best one.I've never met a single Castlevania fan who thinks that.
>>12567765Castlevania chronicles
More on the smoother animations?>>12567787That's not the game's name, that's the name of a shitty port
>>12567804>More on the smoother animations?I emulated it in 030 mode a while ago, and all I can remember is that the mucus things you whip in stage 2 are way smoother. The clouds at the staircase before Dracula too.
>>12567785He meant in terms of sales/money the game made since the first one came out during the Famicom's peak. Castlevania III is objectively a lot better but didn't sell as much due to its later release date.
>>12567815sometimes we forget that 85-87 were the biggest years of the Famicom and Japanese have a lot more nostalgia for those early, crude games since the peak NES years in the US were 88-91 and happened with later, much more advanced stuff.
>>12567815yes he's saying CV1 was the one that sold the most in Japan and everyone had it so it's our favorite one
>>12567169It's the same with Bomberman, the Hudson guys have been on record as calling the original Famicom game their favorite one likely since they sold tons of it even though we would objectively say it was too primitive and not enjoyable to play
>>12567787What game is that?
>>12567851Yeah, if I want super basic Bomberman the first PC engine one is way better, especially 93 (94 is more in line with the super series)
>>12567785I say it on this very board every day
>>12567785For me, if Rondo didn't exist it would be the best one.
For me, It's Zelda 2.
alright then
>>12567837I'd say 1990 was pretty big for the Famicom too. That's when DQ4 released, and it's also the year which had the biggest number of releases, as many releases in 1990 alone as in 85 and 86 combined. Sure lot's of games broke a million copies of sold in 85 and 86 but there were less games released and less quality games too so everyone gravitated towards the same few games.85-86 still have 90 beat on account of Super Mario Bros alone; but 1990 was a pretty big year for the Famicom nonetheless and if you combined the sales numbers of everything you'd probably be surprised (though we can't do that because we don't have numbers for everything; which is another point btw, sales were easier to track down when there were less releases), despite the PC-E and MD competition. In fact, the reason the SFC had such a slow start in its first year was precisely because of how strong the Famicom still was and many publishers and devs had doubts customers would switch over the SFC and that the FC might remain relevant forever since nothing could dethrone it up to that point.
