Did anyone else learn computer literacy through using emulators? I remember fumbling my way into running zsnes to play Yoshi's Island in the late 2000s/early 2010s. I taught myself to use a file browser that way. I think I was 8 when I started
>doing unc shitIf a game is not on Steam no1curr
>>12568490I will be 24 of God's own years old next month. I am literally a zoomer what do you mean unc
>>12568493>24I know dis niggas knees crackin whenever he tie his sketchers lmao
>>12568465no, I learned by modding games though
>>12568465Oldfag here. In the late 90s most emulators were DOS-based and you got a noticeable speed boost by booting Windows 9x into pure DOS mode, which I had to learn how to use. This was back when Nesticle, Genecyst, Kgen98 (precursor to Kega Fusion) and ZSNES before the snow menu were current.ROM hacking tools and save editors were the cool new things at the time too and there was a steep learning curve for some of them. I never set out to learn anything just for the sake of it but I was definitely more motivated to figure things out.
>>12568465No, I was reading books when I was 8.
>>12568465I think I put an eggo in my NES once
>>12568465It's kinda how I learned windows, file extensions etc. early on. I also learned hex and the basics of memory addressing by using a game shark pro.
>>12568465Just paying attention in class teacher left us alone, i messed with all the PC on our third class and we got banned from using PC until graduation of chuutobu, months after graduation messed on a PC on the library on 1997 don't recall which PC i got access somehow black suit guys stopped me when walking in the center of city and dragged me to a room with a judge with total prohibition of using PC or getting near a PC so again in new school my class wasn't allowed to have classes using computers.
>>12568465Half life 1 modding and garrysmod for me.
>>12568465I learned computer literacy by being a PC gamer in the 1990s.You either knew how to configure hardware and memory, or your games didn't fucking work.DOSBox eliminates so many headaches it's unreal.
what kinda sandwich you guys likehonestly i'm just a plain old peanut butter and jelly man frfr
>>12568465i wasn't aware emulators existed when i got my first computer in 99. for me it was installing/uninstalling stuff and deleting remaining folders. my first PC game was picrel. i'd used computers at a somewhat rich friend's house and in family's but i never got to fumble around with them.

>>12568465I spent a lot of time tweaking Pokemon ROMs with Hexecute. By that I mean making characters say naughty words. I don't think that really translated into anything useful though
PwwwwwwwWWWwwwWWWwwww-www
pirating games when i was 5 helped me understand much of how things work
>>12568465That and porn.
>>12568519>In the late 90s most emulators were DOS-based
Just using computers back in the day taught computer literacy because she was so unintuitive before I would argue even WinXP, because 95/2000 were still way less user-friendly than XP was.>>12568519>and ZSNES before the snow menuFuck that's too old even for me, and I was born in 86'.I don't remember what NES emulator I used back in the day, but it was probably NESticle
>>12568465>Did anyone else learn computer literacy through using emulators? No, I learned by using computers.
>>12568465Not me.
>>12568465>computer literacy through using emulators?>>>/g/pls.but no. i was already studying useless IT when i found out about emu birds.before that my school forced us to learn Win95 Office progs. and before that i was briefly in the Computer Club, which also taught MS biz software for a small fee. and before that it was shitty DOS edutainment which is irrelevent to modern hardware and software.and before that it was this monochrome PC that had this obscure basic shit "spider" prog that drew white lines, which is absolutely irrelevent to modern hardware/software and /vr/.
