I beat the game with no deaths, it's just really fucking bad, like actual shovelware kuso levels of bad. Atrocious top-down stages, bland side-scrolling stages, some of the worst boss fights in the series, complete bullshit enemy attacks and patterns, spongy enemies that basically necessitate the weapon spamming exploit. Not even a single part of it holds a candle to Contra, Super C, or Hard Corps.

This game has so much fucking dead air where you just stand around doing nothing and so many patterns are randomized to the point where the most random cheap bullshit will kill you that was not an issue the last 20 runs. And all the weapons feel like shit. And the top down stages suck. And the shmup section sucks. And the anthill boss is a crime against humanity. Honestly I can't even think of a single section or boss that is even halfway decent, maybe the stage 3 boss?

The top down levels really aren't that good. Not to mention they're ugly AF. Also the robots are much cooler.
