Playing old games on PVMs is exactly as inauthentic as using a RetroTinkYour opinion on one should be the same as the other
>>12569693Nothing short of playing on a CRT with either composite or RF and the original system is accurate to the original experience. There are no workarounds. Some setups come close, but for example literally NONE can do the Sonic 1 waterfall accurate to the original hardware.
>>12569702S Video is cool
>>12569693PVMs are ok if you place them high up behind glass and pretend you're playing the game in a toy store
>>12569693>exactly as inauthentic as using a RetroTinkNo it isn't. It isn't how 99% of people played games back in the day, but the underlying display technology is the same.
Just play the fucking game, no one cares how.
>>12569724Considering Mike Chi is a multi millionaire, a lot of people care
>>12569693>Yeah bro totally a engineering accident that all those pins were properly aligned on the MULTI A/V OUT and that the console manufacturers produced cables for said video output
>>12569754
>>12569693>Because I was a four year old shitting my diapers back in 1999, this means there was no such thing as enthusiasts or people with disposable income who could afford higher range television sets
>>12569693If they are arcade ports it is extremely authentic to play them on quality monitors with RGB. Arcade games looked gorgeous for a reason.EGM magazine also used RGB monitors for their game screenshots when possible. We wanted our home experience to look as good as the arcades and magazines, but my old RCA tv with composite caes never stood a chance. It doesnt mean we were not aware of how good thdy looked under ideal conditions.
>>12569693The typical late era CRT tv is pretty much as good as a PVM. Well at least over here in PAL land, I have noticed a lot of US CRTs have this third world vibe about them.
>>12569781>>12569781RCA in 2002 had some excellent component input tvs. It was rare for curved tubes to handle 480p, but RCA had some great TVs in this era. A lot of companies went to flatscreens at that point.
>>12569868Forgot pic, these were excellent. I used one through the PS2 and Wii era.
>>12569871And rca MM36110 is even crazierMultimedia tvs that supported 800x600 vga on top of 240p/480p/600p back in 2000.
>>12569868In the UK high quality tvs was pretty much the norm. Even the cheapest ones were decent. Like the 21 inch tv for £99 from Argos. Image quality was excellent.
>>12569769Yeah I don't get these kids who think we all didn't own PVMs back in the eighties. Hell, I even had one in the bathroom. They used to give them away for free if you collected enough cereal box tops.
>>12569969And RGB was the norm too because of SCART cables.
>>12569693>Playing old games on PVMs is exactly as inauthentic as using a RetroTinkNo, it is not.You are not qualified to speak on this subject if you think that.Lurk Moar.
>>12569702Arcade and PC games did not display via composite and RF.
>>12569736whomst?
>>12569769based
>>12569702NOOOOOO YOU CAN'T HECKIN USE THE COMPONENT INPUT ON YOUR TV THAT'S CHEATING SOMEBODY CALL THE POLICE
>>12569693ok, and? are people using pvm/bvm's calling it authentic to the original experience?
>me as a kid: man composite sucks, but my tv doesn't have s-video or component/rgb>me now: *uses a tv with scart/rgb*>NOOO YOU CAN'T DO THAT BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T USE IT AS A KIDperhaps, but i sure did want to
>>12570104Bbut /vr/ zoomies told me everyone was braindead fucking retarded back in the day and nobody had money.
>>12569693>CRTBright, vibrant colours, motion clarity, scanlines, anti-aliasing from pixel spacing>PVMBright, better cokours, better motion clarity, sharper scanlines, anti-aliasing from horizontal scanning >RetroTinkDark, blown out colours, worse motion clarity, scanlines, simulated anti-aliasingHow exactly is the PVM “the same” as using a RetroTink?
>>12570947the implication is that if you want something better than "budget tv hooked up via composite" then you may as well go all the way. basically the people who say it believe that modern televisions are better in every way to any crt, and that a retrotink on a modern display is the utilimate goal
>>12570886literally no zoomer has said this you fucking obsessed retard, i hate you generation war faggots so much.
>>12569757>>12569754>>12569769>>12570820The subject isn't higher end cables, it's specifically PVMs versus CRT
