They really did nail it
>still is fun as fuck
>newest games in the series are basically the same but with a gimmick or two added on top
It's crazy how this came out on modest ps1 hardware

Tekken peaked with Tag 1

Maybe but I like Tekken 3 on ps1 because limited hardware is more soulful

Glad you like it

It would be cool to see Tag 1 on PS1 using the arcade version as basis.

I don't think there is enough RAM for all the movement of 4 different characters

you're welcome, enjoy the game

just load it from disc like shang tsung morphs.
>>
>>12571776
That's not scanlines
>>
>>12571776
That's the CRT mask, not scanlines. But OP is doing it WRONG because he's running Tekken 3 in progressive mode instead of interlaced.

Valid choice, but DR is a better candidate for gameplay peak. Less jank(note, less. DR plenty of jank). No plus on block mid tag ewgf.

In terms of vibe as well though, Tag1 arcade keeps the graphics but the soundtrack isn't nearly as good as T3 or T4.

Tag1 is a better gameplay iteration over Tekken 3, so it wins in terms of keeping simplicity of moveset and removing the most eggregious stupidity of Tekken 3 (slash kick->ewgf etc), so it's a valid choice for boomergame feel. But I don't think it can really be said to have been a peak for the whole series with DR taken into account. If Tekken ended with Tekken 4, then Tag1 would have been the peak.

Tekken Tag (PS2 version) just feels like such a downgrade without all the extra stuff that was in T3. Even the soundtrack is a lot shorter. I don't know why they decided to put it on CD instead of DVD which would have allowed for a lot more.
But desu I was never a fan of tag fighters in the first place since the whole mechanic feels more fun-based than something that adds a layer of skill or technique, which is great for casual players but makes me take it less seriously. T3 might not be as refined but it still somehow feels more skill based.

The best Tekken is the one that makes you most nostalgic.

As someone who started with Tekken tag, then Tekken 5 and Tekken 7

I only played 3 for the first time recently after seeing people still playing it in tournaments etc on YouTube. I then realised mechanically and visually Tekken 3 is the best one. It's so fluid and weighty.

Definitely still holds up today. They need to just release it on Steam with matchmaking and leaderboards
