how come Zero looked so cool in the X games but so fucking gay in his own games?
>>12572371Lolicon artist
>>12572371Just as an example, on the left, it looks like a functional pelvis design for a robotOn the right, it's like diaper panties.
>>12572371GBA was primarily for kids, they made him look like a twink cuz that's what shounen protags looked like in the 00s
>>12572415That doesn't make ANY sense. Goku for example got cooler going away from being a dumbass kid. This is like going from Z to GT.
>>12572417>This is like going from Z to GT.Anon...
>>12572404Nice...
>>12572415>Screen size and less bulky silhouette had nothing to do with it.Its still a gay redesign but cmon.
>>12572371Zero is ftm. She's actually Roll refitted into a combat machine.
>>12572468No, that Berkana or unused navigator (which later became Alia and Ciel)
>>12572480Nah, it's Zero.
>>12572371Original Zero's design is manly. The shoulder pads and the chest piece are like mechanical stand-ins for delts and pecs, reinforcing the idea of masculinity. The new design does away with all of that.
>>12572407First thing I noticed too
>>12572490>experiment dialogueDoesn't count. Also, when do we get ZXCeil?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmHvLk1yGfM
>>12572407It was always a diaper. Also OG Zero has tits.
>>12573149>It was always a diaper. Coping. >Also OG Zero has tits.I don't see tits either. They could be some kinda energy crystals. Also see: >>12572493
>>12572371better question is why is x4 zero so fun to use and every other game with zero fucks it up majorly somehow
>>12573160X5 and 6 were both pretty ass, but zeros moveset had some questionable inputs that fucked things up even more. I know the improvement hacks do a pretty decent job of fixing both issues, fwiw. X8 is also rough, but zero's weapons are probably the most fun part of the game. X7 is X7. He was also pretty fun in X3 if not for how badly he was implemented into the game. Basically,>Inafune always fumbled important shit at least as often as he stuck the landing.
>>12573149Man boobs just work.
>>12572371The one on the left has tits and hooker boots. The one on the right has a kevlar vest and tactical boots. Why am I meant to think the left one is less homosexual?
>>12572371Went from chad to a twink.
>>12572490>>12572468Iris-another exist
>>12573225Went from bishounen to girl (male) you mean.
>>12573225>>12572415>>12572493They have the EXACT same body types; the only difference is Zero's armour is less bulky in the GBA games.
>>12573328I like PSX/X68k Simon Belmont
>>12573363Even their postures tell the tale.
GBA zoomers absolutely SEETHING right now
>>12572371Both look good in game.>>12572407The diaper looks shit in HD, for both designs. The spandex is also gay.>>12573363it's Canon that the gba games aren't his original body. unfortunately, they cheaped out and pallete swapped the new design when his old body was revealed.
>>12575494That not a diaper. It manly underwear.
>>12572490>>12572468
>>12572502That's just some gay artbook project
>>12572404/thread
>>12575819Anon, I...
>>12575830>corrupted gothic lolisKawaii and lewd
>>12572490>but it was decided that this would be too much of a rock-and-roll heavy metal settingWhat the fuck does he mean by this? Something must be getting lost in translation here.
>>12575878I mean, Ciel was originally a cyborg (humanoid), but by the time the ZX art debuted, she had already become one.
>>12573363That's the excuse Inti tried to make while actively making other sprites that look similar to the X series style. Then they go back and say that Zero in MMZ always looked like that when they were pressed about Omega's look.
>>12575878Probably making X Rock and focusing on returning to Classic. Metal rock is in the X games including the themes. You could even argue one of the characters plays with the metal theme with her armor's name.
>>12575878He's making a pun that didn't translate. Something like"This idea goes past 'Rock' and into Heavy Metal"
>>12573240Technically she doesn't which is why Colonel and Iris were created. The original reploid was buggy so the split occurred. They can't combine without bugging out again.
>>12576178Make Protoman (Blue) into X and Rock reborn as Vile
>>12576191Could fix it by proto-merging Iris with her dead big brother instead of a bootleg mecha.
>>12576309They can't that's the problem. You get a schizo reploid and Another is already going crazy. The ride armor was the closest thing to manageable and it still made Iris bug out.
>>12576305sounds like shit ngl
>>12576305>>12572502Sound hot and cool
>>12575494>it's Canon that the gba games aren't his original bodyIt's also canon that Omega, who has the exact same physique, harbours Zero's original body.
>>12576690>who has the exact same physiqueWhich literally made no sense which is why they were flipflopping on the design when pressed.
Zero is not a female
>>12576704Prove it.
>>12576703>which is why they were flipflopping on the design when pressedThey never flipflopped even once: the explanation was always that the MMZ games merely have a different art style.
>>12576704>>12576706>>12575819X frist dubbed by a woman.
>>12576732>They never flipflopped even onceThey did to cover their asses. Originally they tried pushing future tech until they got pressed about Omega so they changed to MMZ being the same Zero and always looking like that.
All-natural X chad here.MMZ made Zero look fucking gay. I'm not playing that shit.MMX Zero is his best design in the franchise.
>>12576785>They did to cover their assesNo they didn't. Did it never occur to you that the change in art style was meant to reflect the themes and tone? You people have no media literacy.
>>12576971>No they didn't.They literally did. >Did it never occur to you that the change in art style was meant to reflect the themes and tone? That's fine and all if they weren't being so flippant. You have Magnion's attack illusions use use the X designs then they were expecting people to just ignore Omega's design. Inti even straight up said it was "Nakayama's vision" to cover their asses.
>>12576980>Magnion's attack illusions use use the X designsYeah let's just pay an artist to sit down brainstorming about how to take 4 different characters with completely different body types and attire and redesign them in a new art style all for a one-frame animation each as part of an Easter egg, instead of just having the spritist draw something immediately based on existing concept art. That's a really good use of time.
>>12576992>>12576980Phoenix Magnion of course was completely at the forefront of the artistic direction of Mega Man Zero 1, by the way! It is clear that the change in look between the X and Zero games isn't meant to create a contrast between the grimdark world and the derelict resistance fighting against impossible odds. There was obviously no artistic intent behind anything, thank you for attending my retarded millennial TED talk.
>>12576992>>12576998You're really going to talk about time when Omega is a literal sprite recolor?
>>12577014Zero's body is a copy of Omega's; why should they look different?
>>12577017For one they wanted to push that it was the original Zero body which you see that style in Magnion's attack.
>>12577038Do you honestly think Nakayama had Phoenix Magnion (a boss in the sequel) on mind in 2001 when he was figuring out how to redesign Zero as a guerilla for MMZ1?
>>12577041No but he did have Inafune breathing on his neck and then the spriters did create X style reploids. And then the old concept art of Omega uses the X style design. Inti just went with "it's Nakayama's vision" as a get out of jail.
>>12577052>And then the old concept art of Omega uses the X style designFalse; all I could find of this was fanart. Meanwhile in reality, all the actual concept art of Omega by Inti followed the MMZ design, because the artists behind these games knew what they were doing and had more media literacy than American millennials.
>>12577059>FalseWrong.>muh media literacyYou're talking about Inti who literally needs somebody to yank their chain to even get something.
>>12577104That doesn't even look like Zero and they ultimately chose a different design with good reason.
>>12577108Bottom corner and they chose a different design that bit them in the ass so much that they had to use the Nakayama vision of Zero excuse in the Telos book. The only thing is that Nakayama's always been a freelance artist.
Z Zero is a compelling design
>>12577117>Bottom cornerI saw. Zero in the X series does not have a crown, nor spikes coming out of his shoulder pads, nor a big white thing in the middle of his torso. Zero in the X series, notably, also had a face.
>>12577124That's the helmet spikes and the white thing is lighting to hide the bigger details. And the black part is clearly a shadow. The silhouette is obvious.
>>12577131>That's the helmet spikesAbsolutely not, lmao. the MMZ Zero helmet looks closer to the X Zero helmet than this does. You're also not very artistically-minded if you think it would be more relevant to hide his torso than something as identifying as a face. This is either dishonesty, mental gymnastics, or mental retardation.
>>12577118He needs pauldrons.
>>12577118>>12577146
>>12577138Now you're just being dishonest as fuck that you're pretending the helmet is a crown when the base silhouette gives you the helmet spikes.>You're also not very artistically-mindedThey're literally hiding his face to prevent identification with a shadow and the light center is using the same light antics they used in the Z3 Omega reveal.
>>12577138>>12577151I traced the concept art you showed me; the lines don't lie lol. You have to accept the truth that your cited concept art does not back up your argument.>hiding his faceYou said the "white thing is lighting to hide the bigger details". What useful information is being hidden by the white spot on his torso?God dammit, even the boots look nothing like X-era Zero's.
>>12577118It's a good design. The Four Guardians are all master class too.
>>12577153You're tracing the concept art yes but you're clearly taking your artistically-minded liberties with the silhouette. But you'd rather be dishonest because the silhouette clearly references MMX's Zero instead of MMZ's Zero. >hiding his face>You said the "white thing is lighting to hide the bigger details".Clearly you ignored>And the black part is clearly a shadow
Okay /vr/mins I am completely oblivious about anything megaman beyond MM4 for the NES, what should I play after that to get the lore and storyline? MM7 and X on the SNES? MM&bass? Jump straight to Zero?No I will not play battle network
>>12577163There is no connecting lore between the original series and the X series so if you mean in preparation to play MMZ then I would recommend playing MMX on SNES and moving on to the next if you enjoy it, though the X series has some real stinkers later on and it isn't required to play MMZ. So X. Yeah 7 is good but it's not going to give you any more related to X or Z
>>12577164*No connecting lore besides holograms of Dr. Light being hidden in stages to give you armor upgrades
>>12577163depends>MM lore is pretty much stop Wily a la saturday cartoon>MMX lore is stop Sigma like with Wily but does references to MM in general but no actual direct tie 100 years in the future>MMZ lore is Zero dealing with a fucked up world after going to sleep but it only connects to the early portion of MMX as a split off and 100 years later>MMZX lore follows straight after MMZ directly 200 years later>Legends is so far into the future the other series don't actually matter>BN is a different timeline where something happened before 20XX>SF is like 200 years after BN
>>12577164Didn't Zero get created by Wily and wake up early from the stasis he was in for his programming to complete or whatever and go mad and kill the original Megaman cast?
>>12577172Iirc that is implied by one of the endings in the Megaman arcade fighting game but it's non-canon per Inafune.
>>12577172No.
>>12577174Yeah Inafune has said that theory isn't true. The most likely scenario we have is that the original Megaman and co were simply phased out in the intervening time. Light died and they probably eventually broke down or deactivated themselves.
>>12577161>But you'd rather be dishonest because the silhouetteYou trace it then. Either way, you are pegging your entire argument to a singular, tiny sketch of Omega's true form drawn at an unknown date. You don't even have a timeline for this: you are trying to act as if this the true original vision for Omega that was stolen, lmao.Concept art does not demonstrate commitment by any particular person towards any particular thing at any particular time; concept art is supposed to provide concepts which help artists/designers by providing a reference, inspiration, or simply brainstorming, but in all cases is meant to communicate something to their coworkers. Since the image isn't part of a series, we can rule it out as a storyboard aid, and since it's a small image that by your own admission has features hidden, it's also not meant to be an anatomy to be referenced by other artists; the intentional lack of detail means that the only thing this sketch proves is that at some point, somebody wondered "Hey, what if we had Omega's true form step out of his second form, like Darth Vader at the start of RotJ?", and evidently "No" was agreed upon. You have also neglected that the design for Omega's second form on the left, which is much more useful as an aid for spritists and implies much more considered commitment than the little sketch, is completely different from the one seen in the final game (picrel). Concept artists sketch countless designs to see what the team likes, most getting discarded with good reason. Plus, we don't know whether these designs for Omega's 2nd and 3rd forms were drawn before or after the ones that did make the cut, nor what advice was given to the artist ahead of these drawings. You'll also find that in a lot of concept art, things which are not actually necessary to convey the concept end up rushed/super deformed/have liberties taken because a concept artist's attention to detail falls elsewhere.
>>12577194>because a concept artist's attention to detail falls elsewhere. In this case, Omega stepping out of his pod.At the end of the day, Inti wisely decided that Zero accepting and overcoming his Jungian shadow should involve said Jungian shadow being a visual analogue.
>>12577196>Inti wisely decided>wiselythey literally only do things because it looks cool and lucked out with MMZ.
>>12577163This is the basic outline for megaman.
>>12577205>lucked out with MMZZX and MM9 rock, but they're not retro.
>>12577150Kinda prefer his ninja look
Transition before and after
>>12577217>loses boobs>gets a bigger bulgeI don't think that works. >inb4 Zero was Roll
>>12577150Looks rad
>>12572371oh i have a chance to post this robutt meme.
Games are still fun tho, fuck capcom, just let inti make a bunch more
>>12577171>>12577164Thanks for clarifying. I will do the SNES ones next then, and then move to zeroWhere does MM&bass fit in the story though?
>>12577453It's a side story set after Megaman 8, its unrelated to the X series. It actually was sort of a game for people who hadn't adopted the PSX yet and couldn't play MM8, as it reuses some bosses and sprites from 8. It's worth playing. It's a little difficult but playing as Bass is fun. Check it out. But yeah for Zero really all you need is MMX to set the overall scene. X2 is good as well. 3 is eh and then they get wonky on the PSX. Have fun bro, X is a great game as is MMZ
The right side is better than the left; I love the visual identity of the Zero series.
