The last third party NES game released in the US, a surprisingly pretty good port of the much more familiar Mega Drive/SNES game.

I remember playing the SNES version at a Blockbuster kiosk when I was literally 6, had no clue what to do except move the guy around and fall off a cliff.

>release date August 94
surely most copies were rentals?
>>

ACKSHUALLY, it's a port of the Gameboy version, but without the screen crunch, and for some reason the picture quality is darkened like some kind of anti-seizure effect (Hudson Soft's Felix the Cat had the same issue).
All of Virgin Interactive's Disney games that they pushed out at the end of the NES's life are quick and dirty ports of their Gameboy counterparts:
>The Jungle Book
>The Lion King (this one is infamous both for cutting out the second half of the game, and the "boylove" hidden message)
>Aladdin (has the honor of being the very last official NES game released in PAL regions)

Not exactly because the NES port is 2 megabits instead of 1 megabit so it's actually got a larger ROM than the Gameboy. The Lion King was reduced from 4 to 2 megabits and Aladdin was same ROM size on both.
>>
>>12573307
there are a number of late NES games that are poor quality copypaste ports of Gameboy titles but for TJB they did actually use MMC3 when they could have just been cheap and done a copypaste port with an UNROM cart.
>>

this is missing a lot of ROMs though
>>
>>12573346
it does prove my point.

>TJB Gameboy 1 megabit, TJB NES 2 megabits
>Aladdin Gameboy 2 megabits Aladdin NES 2 megabits
>TLK Gameboy 4 megabits TLK NES 2 megabits
>>
>>12573346
cross platform games sometimes used same ROM size on both but other times not. for example Dr. Mario was 32k on Gameboy but CNROM on NES (so 64k)

It's not but okay keep ignoring the spam threads

>not familiar with the Jungle Book
>pull up a video

You just couldn't resist it, Europe. Could you? Could you?
>>
>>12573208
some gimmicks like the swinging ropes, fluid life meter, and enemies not re-spawning when you go off the screen are pretty advanced, too bad they didn't put more polish into it

Rental was how I remember playing it. My video store got every late era NES title which was great for a holdout like me. That being said, I think a lot of supposed "rental exclusive" games weren't that at all and rental stores were the only way people really played them because for real, who was going to buy a Flintstones game for the NES in 1994?
>>12573498
At least they didnt include deadly drops of water.
>>
>>12573498
ditto the arpeggio bathtub gargle music
>>
>>12573498
I had the Gameboy game and only beat it once, it's super fucking long and mazey. I think the SNES and Mega Drive versions have arrows or something pointing you to the gems, but the GB one was just "fuck you, explore this giant ass level and find all the bullshit".

The problem with these threads isn't any of that. The problem is that OP writes them like a douchebag, with the presumption that some random know-it-all dork's trivial review of the random game's quality is the most important thing about the game and ought to be the starting point for every conversation about it.

Welcome to Euro game design, enjoy your stay.

The Ubisoft version was a Gameboy copypaste port yes, the Taito one wasn't.

This game will never not remind me of this

My local Kmart games were still selling a few nes games back in 1997 as well as few accessories and a console or two "the nes redesign" and they would also sell snes games well into 2000 or 2001
.

Are you guys robots? Serious question btw

We had a mid sized toy store in my town and they had NES games for a very, VERY long time. They had a bunch of top loaders too. I got into NES collecting in the late 90s and right as I was going to buy one of those from the store, someone else had bought them all. I still managed to snag a sealed Dr. Mario for 5 bucks though.
>>
>>12574129
Nice try, bot.
>>
>>12574581
Maybe they just "swipe em" to flea market sellers, more often then not that's how used games made their way on swap meets and flea markets.
>>
>>12573208
I'm so glad we didn't get Lion King and Aladdin on NES here in the states, we'd rightfully tear those games a new one.
