We've all chosen a side in the Sonic CD soundtrack debacle, but do you prefer 3D Blast's Genesis or Saturn OST?
>>12573920Genesis for me, it's pure sovl.
>>12573920No one played the Saturn version.
>>12573961Why's that? It's the better one.
>>12573961FUCK OFF AUSTER NOBODY LIKES YOU JUST FUCKING DIE
>>12573974It's harder to set up Saturn emulators since you need a BIOS.
>>12573984Not him, I was just making conversation to boost the thread anon (witch worked but in the wrong way).
>>12573993oh, sorry then anon.
>>12573920I'm on Team Saturn, which I expect is the minority opinion. I really like that 32-bit era of slower, more relaxed video game Jungle music, and I think the moodier levels in particular are really great listens. The game kind of feels like some lost PC puzzle-platformer or, like, a Little Big Adventure spinoff. I like it. I also really like how the "You're My Hero" motif keeps popping up at certain points throughout the game, and the song itself is cute. I don't particularly rate the Genesis one, though. It isn't a bad listen, and I'd say it's better than, like Spinball or something, but it's not even close to the mainline games. The best track in the game got an enhanced version in Adventure, so I basically never re-listen to the original soundtrack.
>>12573920Genesis by far, one of the best soundtracks on the console. The game kinda sucks, but the music is insane.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-mGUv7-PP0https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ys5p4ageAjUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpprlLkFycI
>>12573920Genesis one sounds more like a traditional Sonic game and had the benefit of having songs remixed for Sonic Adventure. Saturn OST isn't bad though. Very underrated actually.
>>12573920I love the American soundtrack of Sonic CD better than the overrated Japanese version. As for 3D Blast, I love the CD quality sound of the Sega Saturn.
>>12573920The Saturn game is better in every way. I’m guessing most of the people who claim to prefer the original version probably haven’t even played the Saturn port.
>>12573920Saturn OST
>>12573920Genesis, mostly cause I feel it keeps the spirit of Sonic OSTs at the time. Saturn has a good style but I think it can be a bit too atmospheric and "western saturday morning cartoon" at times, so to speak, for me to click with that I imagine classic sonic to be, It still has good tracks tho, cant go wrong with either anyway
>>12574178Unless the Saturn version removed Flicky gathering (which you can only get with a romhack), then the game still sucks
>>12573920They're both mixed bags desu. The title screen and first level tracks are the best in both of them, then there's a bunch of forgettable bullshit interspersed with the odd 8/10 tracks.Knuckles' Chaotix soundtrack mogs them both.
>>12573920i need the Saturn director's cut
>>12573985What's the deal with Saturn absolutely NEEDING bios to function as opposed to other emulators?
>>12574475BIOS typically contains functions necessary for the game to run. if the emulator requires a BIOS that means no one bothered to reverse engineer it.
>>12573920Same situation. Original soundtrack wins, but there are a lot of really good tracks in the other one. Saturn 3D Blast's music leans more towards building an atmosphere, but Genesis was more classic Sonic music like the last 4 games.
>>12574272>I prefer the version where you don’t have to engage with any gameplay mechanics
>>12573920genesis version had good composition and catchy tunes but saturn version was musical art
>>12574272It does add a map to each level.
>>12574778Gathering Flickies is not fun you absolute Sonicautist. Nobody likes this piece of shit except true blue mongoloid hedgehog dick slobberers.
>>12573920For me, it's the SEGA Genesis version's OST.Since we're in the topic of Sonic 3D Blast's music: What do you guys think about the recent discovery that some of Jun Senoue's tracks for this game use KORG's auto-accompaniment templates?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr-6FpJ60r8I've seen some people say that this ruins Jun Senoue's songs for them, while others don't seem to care that much.
>>12575038I heard some of the hullabaloo about this, too, but I'm personally on the side that thinks it's OK. It's just a sample, and you are allowed to use them in commercial projects if you want to. Loads of retro game composers just wholesale ripped off the melodies of other songs, and many still do so today (especially in the indie space), so I don't think old Jun did anything wrong by using a pre-made backing track in one of his songs. It's only amusing that it had such a long life through the Adventure update.
