Great for PS1 racers (although some had wonky compatibility/calibration depending on how much they cared about it) but it'll destroy your wrists if you play Wipeout games with it
>>
Unnecessary
>>
The only real way to play Namco racers.
>>
>>12574387
They're necessary if you want analog controls without deadzones in many racers. GT1 and 2 infamously have terrible big dead zones when using a Dual Shock/Dual Analog, but with a NegCon you can manually configure dead zones to taste
>>12574393
Funnily enough, the NegCon is actually a cheat in RR games, RRT4 at least, as it provides expanded turning range compared to normal controllers. For example, you can take many turns without forcing a drift which otherwise wouldn't be possible with a normal controller.

Wait until you learn how Namco named this one...

This controller also makes the Wipeout games play vastly better. Especially the first one.
>>
I like how cheap it was on ebay japan
>>
>>12574382
is there a way to use one of these on a PC?
i bought a cheap usb/ps1 pad converter and duckstation didn't recognize it
>>
I do emulate the NigCon with a Steam Controller's gyro.
>>
>>12574586
Use mednafen. That should work with it.

There's a reason why most of the top Ridge Racer 4 speedrunners use it

Anyone actually own a gen 1 NegCon?
I've seen some people online claim that it's supposedly better built, but there's fuck all images comparing the guts any of the three variants (gen 1 with rounded shoulder buttons, gen 2 with rectangular shoulder buttons, gen 3 with black casing).
>>
>>12574970
I have two Gen 1 neGcons but I heard Gen 2 is the best due to the shoulder buttons, whereas Gen 3 is the most cost reduced. The only thing it has going for it is the color and being a minor collectable. Both of my Gen 1s were made in Korea, for what its worth.

You can set the turn radius so a full left or right turn doesn't require a 90 degree twist. You want just enough of a radius to where you can fine tune a turn but not to where any sharp turns require a full twist.
>>
>>12574919
The original, of course.

Didn't namco also released the arcade stick or the gun-con45?

It is the god machine controller for wipeout fyi. You will smash all your lap times and your wrists.
>>
>>12576470
It works with some of the Gran Turismo titles doesn't it?

It does.

I hope this is good and I also hope I can get an adapter for it to work on my ps1.

Why are children like this?
>>
Some racing games turn when I set the deadzone to 1mm so I suspect my negcon has something wonky internally but I dare not risk opening it up to find out. It isn't every game though - like ridge racer (and rev) will behave properly with a 1mm deadzone but rage racer won't centre out unless I set to 3mm for example.

Innovative and a great way to enjoy racing games on Playstation. Wish there were more Ridge Racer games.
>>
I've never liked how the need for speed games worked with the negcon.
>>
Supposedly wipeout fusion supports the negcon but i've not tried it as that would mean replaying fusion and i'm not sure I can bring myself to do so.
>>
if a modern one were made i would buy it in a heartbeat.

How come Hori or whoever never made one? Low demand?
>>
>>12574382
Which buttons work as select, r2 and l2?
>>
>>12577298
Analogue sticks are pretty good now, and for someone who wants something more premium they can just get wheel, it's a niche middleground.

They did have their own hot take on a racing controller, that was designed to imitate the feel of an RC car transmitter. I don;t think it was released outside of Japan?

Performance had this for the N64 and PS1.
