what was your experience with this thing? anyone still use it? its pretty small and i would imagine people using emulators would just use a normal mouse instead at this point if possible. i got mine with mario paint (probably like most people) and it was really amazing at the time. its not something i really care to revisit anymore but you could spend hours doing creative things with that title. the only other mouse game i remember playing was king arthur's world. i was too young and uninterested to really accomplish anything in that.

Not sure why you are still playing Mario Paint in 2026, but Hyperkin released an optical SNES mouse about a decade ago that is a lot better

it's a shame that the first Lemmings game isn't compatible
but Cannon Fodder is somehow

It didn't work with SimCity so I wrote it off as a useless piece of shit. Decades later, I still stand by this.
>>
I emulated it on zsnes, Mario Paint was kino but somehow Shadowrun wasn't compatible at all.
>>
Civilization can use the mouse, it's way easier to control.

King Arthur's World is just okay. I haven't played it with the mouse and it wouldn't really change things much to do so. Obviously Mario Paint is the main purpose of the mouse for Americans.

It appears that there are quite a lot of Japan-only games that use the mouse: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_NES_Mouse
I don't know anything about them.

I don't think I ever used it for anything other than Mario Paint, but I did play a couple of other compatible games as a kid: Utopia, which kinda sucks, and Vegas Stakes, which is quite good as SNES gambling games go (so, not all that good, but kinda good) - but I never knew you could use the mouse in that, so I didn't. Oh and SimAnt. I think I used the controller in that too though...

SimCity should have been the other main application of the mouse, yeah.

I still have my SNES mouse in my closet. I haven't tried to use it in ages though. It doesn't feel very comfortable in my hand, for what that's worth. But you always get used to a new mouse quickly enough.

I've played over 100 hours of the Tokimeki Memorial fan translation with the SNES mouse. It's a mouse. It works. You can click on things. It's adequately ergonomic. I've never felt uncomfortable using it. I wish the cursor was more sensitive in the games that use it, but that's not a problem with the hardware. That's a problem with the games' implementation of their cursor.

By Koei. Do remember that PCs were not cheap or normie-friendly back then so console ports were often the only way to play these games.

>what was your experience with this thing?
it was a perfectly adequate mouse for the time (before optical mice were invented/popularized)
>its pretty small
I was smaller then than I am now, so it all worked out

this

now that you mention it, D-pad in left hand, mouse in right could have been cool
Nintendo was totally cool with fucking over left-handers (Earthbound would let you play with L being the “yes” button and Select being the “no” button so you could use your right hand to make maps or something)

Why didn't Nintendo release Mario and Wario outside of Japan? Seems like a no brainer way to sell a few more mice. Taking a look at the wikipedia page for compatible games I'm actually pretty surprised, there are way more than I thought there were but most of them are Japan only games.

It's one people hardly ever mention, for whatever reason. I think Nintendo Power touched on it a bit but they didn't ever do a big article on it. I never saw it in any rental store. I don't know how much interest I would have had in it even if I'd gotten my hands on a copy as a kid... I would later fall in love with the DOS version, but as a SNES player I wasn't entirely ready for this kind of game.

i played it on bsnes emu. runs like ass. even worse on Snes9x. supposedly the original SNES hardware ran it badly too.

Reminds me of the Acorn Archimedes mouse (couldn't find a decent angle photo and this one's discolored to fuck).

Also this is now a mouse thread

I gave it a brief spin on my SNES+Flash cart a while back. The low-res+CRT fuzz doesn't do the graphics many favors compared to a PC monitor and the standard controller is a PITA to use which is why anon recommended the mouse. Also the computer takes miles and forever to do its turns as you'd probably expect even though the game is FastROM.

I know there's a hack of Shadowrun that adds mouse control, but I don't remember the details.

its an emulator script so you just use a normal mouse. i dont even think the actual snes mouse would work since the game wasnt programmed for it
