I will never own a CD-I so to anybody who did, are these games really as bad as people say? Besides the YTP golden age of reusing the same 28 second cutscenes do these games really suck or was it just defined by the majority of people who got filtered?
the jump being A is really annoying
>>12577609Can't be as bad as using a TV remote for a controller
>>12577603They're not unplayably bad. I'm not sure I would go so far as to say they're actually good but I went through both and they're alright enough to get through. Definitely follow a gamefaqs guide though figuring out where to go on your own is pretty annoying.Zelda's Adventure on the other hand I would definitely say is unplayable and complete dogshit. It's unreasonably difficult and I couldn't force myself through it, I gave up in the first dungeon.
>>12577621Isn't this the one that never saw a NA release?
>>12577627I wasn't aware of that but upon looking it up, I guess so. My CDi is a PAL unit so I guess that explains how I was able to play it,
It's just unpleasant to play. Even when you're using the more conventional controller with the three buttons, it feels awful. Hotel Mario is fine. It's not amazing, but it way more enjoyable to play compared to any of the CDi Zeldas. I feel like if it was made without anything related to Mario, people would be able to like it for what it is, an okay game that is "good" compared to its peers.
>>12577603Yea you play them mainly for the internet memes the animations in them created. That's really the only value of these games, how memorable and laughable they are.
I had these as a kid, still have the manual for one of em around here.I only had the roller ball controller so they were *extra* bad. The jumping was sooo janky and the platforms sometimes didn't match what was on screen. They might've been more-tolerable with a real controller.
>>12577603There is much much worse games than those Zelda
>>12577603From what I remember playing in an emulator, the controls are awful. It's slow and unresponsive, like using a TV remote. I didn't even last 10 minutes.
>>12577614That controller stick looks flimsy af
>>12577786>>12577635Why were your parents so cruel that they got you a CD-i instead of a PlayStation?
>>12577918I had an NES, SNES, Game Boy, Game Gear, and CD-i before the PSX came out a generation later. I'd hardly call that cruel. I did later get one of those, too.
>>12577673Hotel Mario looks similar to Crazy Castle, which I think is a fun game. However, I'm not sure how the ability to jump would affect that kind of game.
>>12577614You weren't meant to play games like this with the remote. The CD-i had regular gamepads too.
>>12577603They are really that bad. You will find people out there who defend them though because Zelda fans suffer from a sickness.
>>12577621This shit looks like a porn parody
>>12577603the remakes make them pretty decent games. the originals also just aren't that bad, but are gimped by being on the CDi
>>12577961the CD-i didn't come with a regular gamepad. also it doesn't matter since all controllers act like mice.
>>12577603those two are the """good""" onesbut theyre still rly fuckin janky and shit. just play zelda 2 if you want a sidescrolling zedla. its just infinitely better of a time
>>12580647>the CD-i didn't come with a regular gamepadMine did.
>>12580758you never owned a cdi until the 2010s told you it was quirky to.
Just play them, they made PC ports of Wands of Gamelon & faces of evil like 4 years ago.For zelda's adventure you'd have to emulate the CDi, unsure how that is but I think they figured it out years ago as well.
>>12580772Bought it in 2005 actually. Long before these games got memed to hell and became super expensive.
>>12582158oh nice if you got it for like a good deal honestly.
>Seanbaby's classic review from '02. He'd make an excellent shitposter (probably was/is).
>>12577603Didn't some people end up making a whole damn game in the style of these games, down to recreating the style of the cutscenes and even getting a few of the original voice actors back?
>>12582248He was so damn good in EGM. Made young me laugh super hard
>>12577603There is a remaster available for PC, why don't you try it out? These games are like one hour long each.
>>12584263>>12584263>remaster available for PCwhere can i download them?
>>12582225I paid $7 for each of the two 2D Zelda games, I think they go for hundreds now.
>>12582248Fuck you for making me remember Man Comics and how they no longer exist
