Why does this game control like absolute shit? It's like a prank. Everything about Tricky and SSX3 is so charming and appealing, until you actually start playing and nothing fucking works. You barely get air time to do any tricks, landing any of them is way harder than it should. Actually hitting a railgrind is ridiculous, all the rails have tiny hitboxes and jumping on them doesn't help, either. It's also way too easy to keep bumping into shit and eating shit.I keep returning to this game every now and then, half expecting the controls to not suck nigger dick this time, but they do.
>>12578969Yeah inb4 some neck beard says skill issue, it's obvious now why tony hawks took off and became popular and this wasn't well known to anyone The controls are horrendous, it feels like you are fighting against the game itself. I was going to say ssx3 has slightly better controls but then I found myself trying to repeatedly launch off a half pipe but it was glitching and not responding properly at which point I uninstalled the gameTricky is just headache inducing. again it feels like you are struggling against the controls instead of the game which is tedious. Maybe back then people had time to "master" the shit controls and memories the stages with the bad controls in mind. I didn't care for it.
No clue about 3, but the original and Tricky control great. Carving is fast and smooth, going off ramps early/late and pre-charging your jumps determines air or distance, rails are satisfying to slide because it's not just magnetic and your approach matters.Even before I got the full game, me and chums would replay the demo that came with the PS2 over and over because it was fun as fuck.Try Shaun Palmer's if you want THPS on snow.
>>12578969For me, it's wondering how much air you'll actually get off a jump even if you take it the same way 50 different times. Feels fucking random as hell.
>>12578969those problems go away when you unlock better boards. play for longer than 20 minutes before posting
>>12578969>>12578982Actual skill issue. The games are not hard and I've never had any issues with what you're complaining about.
I actually ended up liking SSX3 more than tricky, but I preferred the Tricky Cast and some of the levels were more fun. Kaori was always my main bitch
Rails are best approached by spinning sideways (since you can be pretty far off landing horizontally and still cling to the rail) but it takes some time to get used to spinning at the right rate to be sideways when you hit the railAlso you can charge the spins for your jump with the d pad while still steering with the control stick. Once you start doing this the game controls fine.Unfortunately I played on the compromised gamecube version as a kid.
>>12578969You have to build up your stats to execute better and learn how to buffer your rotations. Your moves are limited when your stats are low, but there's still room to execute. Understanding your limitations and executing within them is essential. As for grinding it's really easy and you're bad at video games.
>>12579429Also if you're playing the gamecube versions consider swallowing a bullet lmao.
>>12579231It’s definitely bait. To say a game that got at least 3 sequels didn’t have popularity is insane. Sure, it wasn’t as popular as Tony hawk but they weren’t releasing these games over an over because they enjoyed losing money.
>>12579436Yeah id notmally agree but cant u unlock extra nintendo characters for one of these on cube? U can always get a controller adapter so u dont have to use the worst controller ever made for a major console release. Inb4 “the gamecube controller is awesome!!!” It’s objectively not, the dpads don’t even work on it. I’m sorry, if a controller has an entire section of it that doesn’t even work it’s a shit controller. I remember not even being able to consistently taunt in Melee because the d-pad is so fucked up.
>>12579027>>12579192The last thing it is, is "satisfying">Just play for 3 hours until you get better stats bro!How about I just uninstall this shit. I haven't got time to waste until it "gets controllable"Dropped
>>12579543>Mad cuz badMany such cases, very sad!
>>12579471Gamecube controller is fine for some games where they were made for it, though I agree the d-pad sucks. But yeah for the SSX games, dualshock controller is best, better than Xbox controller too.
I don't remember having any problems with the controls when I 100%d the game as a 10 year old kid
>>12579578>Mad because a games shit and he didn't waste his time on it???????
OP here, came back to my 60% save and beat all the races with gold, and some showoffs with silver. Even with maxed out stats I still have issues with showoff where shit barely works and you just wipe out and get combo'd by everything in sight. Fuck SSX.Don't bother with le skill issue shitposting, I've beaten all ninja gaidens on master ninja and hard kms on god hand. But you know, the controls work on those games.
>>12578969>>12578982>>12579027It is an actual skill issue though. You sound like the type of person who expects to master a bike the first time you ride it.Tricky is a great game with tight controls. If you don't have the patience to learn the very basics that's a you problem.>You barely get air time to do any tricksYou need to familiarize yourself with at least one riders trick book and how long each trick takes to execute while in hang time if you want to pull off tricks properly.>Actually hitting a railgrind is ridiculous, all the rails have tiny hitboxes and jumping on them doesn't helpIt sounds like you are approaching rails wrong, see >>12579323>It's also way too easy to keep bumping into shit and eating shit.It sounds like you are holding down the jump button too often which limits movability and should only be reserved for approaching ramps/jumps.Seriously, just play the game more.
>>12578969I have always been an extremely mediocre gamer and have played tricky for months as a kid, and still got the final board for all characters and never had issues in landing tricks Sure I remember some rails in tokyo megaplex to be frustrating to reach, but I am inclined to say skill issue
>>12579851Tricky is not a good game with tight controls you learn to adapt to the tragic awkward control scheme over time don't get me wrong you can adapt to it but it's not intuitive or fun which is why I dropped the game I want to enter a flow state I don't want to be battling against the games awkwardness and jankinessAnd believe it or not you're replying to more than one person I wanted to like this game because it looked cool but the reality of playing it is unfortunate
>>12579471The gamecube version removes half of the tricks due to a lack of buttons, this is a game where you're penalized for repeat tricks.
>>12579824why are you so fucking garbage? You literally just mash fucking trick buttons while leaning on the d-pad, you should have your first uber by your second or third jump depending on the track, hell on Garibaldi once you have even a little bit of stats built up you should be able to do it on the first fucking drop
>>12579543If you have time to post on the Chan, you have time to play the game. Skill issue, retard.
>>12579824 Holy shit you're bad at video games.
>>12578969>>12578982>>12579543>>12579807>>12579824>12579878Either>Bait>You genuinely suck and can't beat a game most of us did as preteens>you're playing with horrendous lagMost likely bait. The SSX series was never difficult to master. SSX3 is the most tedious to master because of all the side quests and back country riding though.
>>12579429>doesn't get any multiplers>isn't doing 360+ spins while railing>isn't doing major tricks in-between rails>let's her combos finish before getting to the finish lineWhat a fucking scrub.
>>12580227Posting here is funSsx isnt
>>12580480Skill issue. Git gud.
>>12578969>Why does this game control like absolute shit?I haven't played SSX Tricky in 20 years, but I distinctly remember redoing the first level over and over until I got a grasp on the controls and then I blasted through everything else. I donno if I was just bad, but that seems to align with your critique.
