The ZX Spectrum was objectively better than the NES. True the NES could display more colors and had better sound, but it had a very modestly signed library with only a handful of really stand out games as opposed to the thousands of titles on the Spectrum, many AAA+ quality.Post your love for ZX Spectrum here
The best Spectrum game isn't even as good as the worst NES game.
>>12579412Kek Knight Lore alone fucking wrecks most of the NES so called best games. Manic Miner, Jet Set Willy, Lords of Midnight. NES had nothing to compete with the heavy hitters on the Spectrum.
>>12579412They aren’t really comparable in that way as >>12579417says.This isn’t a Super Mario 3 versus Super Mario World thread. You don’t just have to bait all the time.
What's with all the retarded tribalist faggotry in this board?
>>12579430He is not wrong, the library of the ZX Spectrum dwarfs the NES
>>12579431So?, can't you enjoy both, appreciating what each one does better?
>>12579417I've played through Knight Lore, and every other """classic""" Spectrum game in the Xbox Rare Replay collection. I went in with a hopeful attitude and found nothing but inconsistent frame rate, constant slowdown, shitty collision, unresponsive controls, and barf inducing graphics at every turn. The only halfway decent title was Jetpac and that's only because it's such a simple arcade style game there isn't much you can do to ruin it.
>>12579430It’s bad, especially for retro systems but is it as bad as>could Sega Saturn run <insert game here> weneed to talk about this alternative history that didn’t happen!>final fantasy <number> is best and here’s why!>Nintendo made a huge mistake with <insert system here> and could have used polyphenimenal blast processing RISC instruction set. I am an expert in this in 1992!>CRTs were chosen by Jesus as the only way to authentically run old games. You have to buy my dumpster diving CRT from eBay!
>>12579435>I played some shitty emulated version on my McHugbox 5 and it sucked!!!!Wow imagine that, zoomers mutt
>>12579435In terms of classics, for simple arcade action fun that still holds up well, try Bruce Lee or Rodland. Otherwise, the Spectrum was good at simulation/strategy, try Elite, Lords of Midnight or Chaos, to name a few.I still think that modern homebrewed games tend to be better than the classics, though.
>>12579440Obviously one must use the real hardware, with 5 minute tape loading times and flimsy membrane flesh keyboard, for the superior true Speccy experience. Also don't forget a book of POKEs from the era to fix all the broken games (like jet set willy) that don't function properly otherwise.
>>12579445This guy spectrums.Fortunately a few of those issues were fixed eventually.
>>12579443>Bruce Lee>Elite>Rod landWhy play any of those on the Speccy when superior versions exist?
>>12579445I'm simply urging you to see how retarded it sounds to bitch about performance when playing some shitty console emulator port
>>12579450>Why play any of those on the Speccy when superior versions exist?Curiosity. Nostalgia.
>>12579405Kim Justice?
>modestly signed libraryi'll skip the low hanging fruit but>nes>modest libraryseriously? did you just assume noone on this board is old enough to ever have played nes, even via an emulator?
>>12579453https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzk4DLsFE0o&t=5mThis is real hardware. Not 5 minutes in you can already see an example of the game jump from a brisk frame rate to a slow crawl when switching rooms. Then in the next room the enemy doesn't even move at a constant speed and the guy playing dies as a result. Just one of countless examples of shit programming and design throughout this so-called "premium" Spectrum game. At least they had the good sense to port it to superior hardware later on (aka Nintendo.)
>>12579456yes?
>>12579473>SPECCY: IT'S WEALLY DA DOGS BOLLOCKS
>>12579470Unironically sounds like you would be more at home in the current gen of gaming, zoomie>>/v/
>>12579464It's a modest library compared to ZX Spectrum which is what he is saying.
The pulseline thread really broke his psyche ever since hehe
>the best ZX Spectrum developer went on to exclusively work for Nintendo (something completely unheard of in the industry)>they continued making some of the best games and kept improving, meanwhile the average Spectrum developer faded into oblivion after the year 1986How do you, uh, reconcile this fact...?
>>12579657>the best ZX Spectrum developerthat's not Julian Gollop
>>12579657that's not Mike Singleton
>>12579657Maybe they paid him more? Are you so indoctrinated to whatever company you are working for that you world not move to another one for a profit?Seems easy to reconcile.
>>12579437It's far worse than any of that. That stuff is confined to the relatively few (albeit still too many) threads about it. But this console war tribalism crap is perpetually ready to boil up in EVERY thread.
I can't believe Euro PC fans actually exist. These are the worst games I've ever seen in my life. The only people who are delusional enough to like them are entirely blinded by nostalgia. There's no younger generation getting into this utter trash, just the thought of that is actually kind of funny.
>>12580028>I don’t like this thing>I can’t believe it>the young people don’t exist that like this>I find this really funnyYou can relax. It will be okay anon.
>>12580029Everything will be fine. It's not like I'm forced to play Fat Worm Blows a Sparky.
>>12579440>shitty emulated versionRare Replay's Spectrum games are running on Rare's in-house emulator, running on hardware 150x more powerful than the original Spectrum. The games are responsive, so input lag and shoddy programming aren't the problem— it's the lackluster games born from the system's limitations.
>>12580028i can appreciate the Spectrum's minimalism; it has its own charm but Amiga games are just too tacky
>>12580030That’s right. You came into a thread you hate and got angry and now you could benefit from playing Curse of Sherwood.
>>12579405The really sad thing about NES is that without the enhanced mapper chips it's something like Coleco. So really all of the better NES games should be compared to Spectrum 128k stuff, like La Abadia Del Crimen, Carrier Command or Where Time Stood Still
>>12580249NROM carts only have a single graphics set, 256 background tiles and 256 sprites, and in practice usually not even that because many games store additional data in the CHR ROM. It's incredibly limited.
>>12580249the Colecovision was actually less limited in some ways as it had rewriteable graphics RAM so stuff like animated backgrounds was possible
>>12580271It had a total of 16k video RAM and as your graphics would never need all that space you could use it for additional storage or work RAM while a NES with no mappers had a mere 2k of RAM.
>>12580313theoretically there's enough space for 2,048 tiles since CV tiles are 8 bytes a piece but obviously some space is used for sprites and the tile map. however most games leave plenty of free space for other uses, and unlike the NES you can also access graphics RAM any time you want, not just during blank (although the bitrate is slower during active render). on the NES...ok you could deal with that, but the SNES continued the same retarded setup of not allowing you to touch the PPU outside blank.
>>12579430Americans. If a platform is popular in a country other than their own, they sperg. It's that simple. You'll see it in every thread, every single time. I mean, look at the first reply. And these:>>12579435>>12579445>>12579450>>12580028And so on. They are demented freaks. They can't help themselves. They have to ruin everything, and they are the reason why everyone else shits on this board. At least on /pol/, the mutt will put his hands up when called out. No such sense of self-awareness here.
>>12579432>can't you enjoy the zed ex rectums libraryLmao are you serious?
I will concede that Mirrorsoft's Tetris looked really good for a Spectrum game.
>>12580490It also looks really good for a game from 1981...
>>12579430See:>>12580445Like I said, the muttoid cannot help itself. It's a cancer that destroys every board it infests.
