You can't even comprehend how important this game was for the industry at the time.
I can comprehend it as I am a galaxybrained Sega enjoyer.
>>12580635Yes killing Sega was a monumental feat
Falseflag auster thread
>>12580659What if I'm not auster? What if I genuinely enjoy Nights Into Dreams, released in 1996 for the SEGA Saturn? What then?
This game was important in the sense that it solidified Sega as old news.
it will be included in sega arcade in the next yakuzer, as a minigame
>>12580635If it's so important, what games were released afterwards that took obvious inspiration from it?Where are the NiGHTS clones?
>>12580685The sega system*
>>12580635I'll admit it was pretty important... but not as much as Panty Quest 27 was. There wasn't a single Japanese dev that was not shook to their core by it.
>>12580635I have a Sega Saturn and the official analog controller but have never played this game.
>>12580635true, I can't
>>12580635I like this song from the game, but not much else.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLCYRqJZZ0Y
>>12580857>>>12580635 (OP) (OP) (OP)>If it's so important, what games were released afterwards that took obvious inspiration from it?>Where are the NiGHTS clones? When Sonic was released in 1991 it caused a massive chain of 'we can do Sonic too' mascot platformers. This is where Bubsy came from. It was a distruptive game in the industry and pushed Genesis/ MD sales forward in a massive way back when Sega was fearing that they would get snubbed out by Nintendo and the launch of the SNES.But, there was also a lot of pre-planning for sonic, the character was put through a lot of focus groups and refined before launch. There was a coordinated attempt to make Sonic big through adverting and other tie-ins. It all worked. NiGHTS was purely Sonic team with no real outside influence.. it was their moment to show that they could cause lightening to strike twice without the SOA influence breathing down the back of their necks. The game was showcased to magazine and game outlets with curiosity, because it was Sonic Team. There was some hype by magazines. It did get good reviews. But it had no coordinated advertisement campaigns. For some reason Sega of America was too butt hurt by Sony and the Playstation, as they would fill their ads with spiel like: "Our system has 2 processors, the Plaything has 1, NiGHTS can't be done on the Plaything" with no emphasis on the character or anything else. NiGHTS might have been one of the best sellers on the Saturn outside of Virtua Fighter 2 and possibly Daytona USA. But it didn't exactly propel Saturn sales forward, even though the game did review well. It also didn't help that Mario 64 and the launch of the N64 was a month away. The most hyped game of 1996, no question. Sony kept crushing it with a surprise Crash launch that not only had a really strong advertising campaign that echoed Sonic the Hedgehog 1's marketing campaign... Sony took some paged out of Sega's old playbook. But Crash actually did sell a lot of Playstation 1's.
>>12580635It wasn't the game I was hoping it would be based on the cover and promo art. I wish it was more free form and you're flying around a neon 3D city at night time with unique objectives all over the place. Just the fact that the first level takes place in a daytime grassy environment was an immediate boner killer.
>>12580857>If it's so important, what games were released afterwards that took obvious inspiration from it?>Where are the NiGHTS clones?there are only two noteworthy NiGHTS clones. One is from 2021 called Balan Wonderworld, developed by Square-Enix... and surprise, surprise directed by Yuji Naka. The other is Rodea the Sky Soldier, developed by Prope.. a company that was founded by... Yuji Naka. There is also Nights: Journey of Dreams. Developed by Sega Studios USA with Takashi Iizuka at the helm. That's about it. basically Yuji Naka chasing his own legacy.
>>12581493Isn't Balan some awful platformee that plays nothing like Nights though?
>>12581502>>>12581493 (You)>Isn't Balan some awful platformee that plays nothing like Nights though?Oh yeah... the marketing made it look more like a nights clone. Even some of the character designs look straight up like they could have been part of a Nights sequel. But the game is more grounded platformer. I guess the NiGHTS clones are Rodea the Sky Soldier and Superman 64.
I SWEAR IF I SEE ONE MORE TRANNY CLOWN THREAD
>>12581514what is this forced tranny clown meme?
Why are there three Nights threads on the catalog??
>>12581556>Why are there three Nights threads on the catalog??NiGHTS was released July 1996 in Japan, we are getting close to its' 30 year anniversary. Three threads on /vr/ is the best we're going to get for a celebration.
>>12581568So why have there been nights threads on the catalog at almost all times for the last 3 years?
>>12581463Are you also one of those retards that gets mad at the promotional material for Kingdom Hearts when it shows cool stuff like The World That Never Was and the Keyblade Graveyard but you don't actually get to those parts until endgame?
>>12580635It was an important lesson on what not to do.
>>12581570Because it's a fun and interesting game.
>>12581463That pre-rendered art is the NiGHTS game that I would like to see. The A-Life system was such a weird nuanced system that was always running in the background that most players would ignore or not even know was there to begin with. But you could breed them (like the Chao in Sonic Adventure), mutate them, and watch the Nightopians build shit, like structures and even statues of NiGHTS. They even enhance the soundtrack. Christmas NiGHTS actually has a more robust A-Life system.
