Why didn't Tower of Druaga have much staying power as Zelda? In a better world Tower of Druaga could have had a pop culture presence and was the first to do the fantasy RPG mechanics before Zelda ever did.
Namco liked to innovate more than to rehash, they're based like that.Even when they made new games for this series it was in different genres or stylesIf you want rehashes look at any other publisher
>>12581392>Mr.GilDamn nice fantasy name, just as good as Jim the Knight
>>12581396> it was in different genres or stylesThe Adventures of Link?Hyrule Warriors?
>>12581401It was short for Gilgamesh a reference to mesopotamian and babylon mythology
Tower of Literally Who
>>12581392Tower of Druaga is extremely esoteric and it's closer in gameplay structure to a golden age arcade game (because that's practically what it is) than to the console-oriented stuff that Nintendo and Square/Enix made famous in the later 80s.
I love how the druaga anime just ignored everything about the game world and just decided to have ropers molest elves while the hero watches. Official art, btw.
>>12582095I remember hearing about that anime from a kid in my middle school after confusion where I only knew of the game from Namco Museum and he only knew the anime.I later went home and watched it and was immediately pissed at how they kill off Gil and your protag is instead some faggot named Jil, and only the first episode resembles the source material whatsoever.
>>12581392Interesting notation OP, but actually, in a better world, you wouldn't have been born
>>12581392Because Zelda is a bigger and better game. Zelda has more mechanics and they're easier to understand while Druaga is basic yet somehow more cryptic. Tower of Druaga also only has a singular setting while Zelda has the overworld to go alongside it's distinct dungeons. Zelda is also just more fun to play. I'm not even trying to say Druaga is bad, these things are fine because it's an arcade game. While you can cherry pick things that are similar between them the reality is the two games are vastly the different from each other but weird faggots like >>12581396 will ignore everything Zelda brought to the table and tell you it's just a "rehash". God this website is completely fucking retarded.I really do think Druagas lack of popularity, outside of Japan, is mostly due to it's format as an arcade game though. Perhaps if the home ports had added some things to make it more similar to traditional single player adventure games it would've had more staying power but as it is it really isn't anything more than a single screen arcade game.
>>12583421Funny enough while Zelda is "what if Duraga was more accessible", you can see the reverse "What if Zelda was more Duraga" in Namco's attempt at doing just that. The Famicom game Valkyerie no Bouken does the top down exploration style of Zelda but with Duraga's opaque secret hunting. It's the sort of game the people that whine "ugh Zelda 1 was IMPOSSIBLE to play without a guide" are actually thinking about.
>>12581412>Hyrule Warriors?that's koei and not retro>The Adventures of Link?thats the only different one made by tendo
>>12581392too hard
