About to play this bad boy for the first time on original hardware (MiSTer FPGA). Anything I should know going in? Should I go for 100% or is it not worth it? If I do go for 100%, should I use a guide or is it reasonable to do blind?
>Anything I should know going in? Just play the fucking game
>>12582435The red levels on the world map all have a secret second exit that leads to a different path.
No guides, finding the secrets on your own is a must
>>12582435you can jum p on trutles
>>12582435>FagGPA user is a performative gamerwow, consider me shocked
>>12582497This
>>12582497you can also jump on dinosaurs but only in smw
>>12582504>playing on original hardware with no save states or rewind is performative
>>12582435>MiSTer FPGAIs not original hardware. It's emulation faggotry.
>>12582569Holy cope, it's literally more accurate to a period accurate SNES than an actual SNES is due to the components aging and affected timing in small ways
>>12582435>Anything I should know going in?There's a secret easter egg on top secret area but I won't tell you how to get it. All I'll say is you have to find a key from other level and use the cape.
>>12582563>has never played fucking super mario world but has a mister>posting a thread on 4chan asking what should I know about a fucking MARIO GAME instead of just playing it1000% performative retard.
>>12582574yeah that still doesnt make it ORIGINAL hardware. words have meaning
>>12582574I’ll concede the point if you admit you had this exact reply ready before you posted the thread.
these auster threads just keep getting more low effort
>>12582574>it's original hardware because it's different from a SNES, the original consoleThis game might be too complicated for you.
>>12582574>plays without correct hardware entropyYou didn't beat the game
unless you are literally 12 years old I cant understand being on this board but have never played SMW.
>>12582627>>12582693Retards. SNES nowadays are less accurate than MiSTer compared to a SNES in the 90s/early 2000s
>>12582435>on original hardware (MiSTer FPGA)Bait thread
>>12582741Most people have not played SMW. I've played a lot of Mario games (SMB1-3, 64, Galaxy, Odyssey, Mario Land 1+2, etc) just not SMW
>>12582753Correct, and that's why it isn't an authentic experience.
>>12582762Most people born after 2000 have not played SMW*
>>12582768I was born in mid 90s, not everyone is a tendie fanatic
>>12582765It is authentic to how the game was played at the time, as it should be.
>>12582775But we don't live at that time.
>>12582775The only way for FPGA to accurately represent this is to simulate hardware entropy on a day by day basis relative the time of release of the console and the cart respectively. Only then would it be period accurate.
>>12582753You're aware FPGA emulation isn't magically accurate just because it's FPGA, right? It's hardware emulation instead of software emulation, but it's still emulation and the cores have to be developed and still have issues
>>12582783It's much more accurate than modern SNES and that's what matters. Any given console is going to have very minor differences
>>12582785Which console in particular is FPGA emulating? You see, it is theoretical only. It attempts to be a console but is no console in particular. Real hardware, however divergent, will always be maximally accurate, by virtue of being real hardware, being a particular console and truly existing in reality not theory.
>>12582784You are a complete fucking retard. You are either just blatantly making shit up or haven't checked MiSTer accuracy tests in years. MiSTer is as accurate or usually significantly moreso than the most intensive and accurate software/PC emulators for basically every major core.>MiSTer's NES core is the only emulator in existence with 125/125 passes on AccuracyCoin>MiSTer's MD core gets one fail on the single most intensive MD test rom in existence, compared to 3-5 fails depending on version with the most accurate software emulators, BlastEm and Nuked>MiSTer's GBA core is one of only a couple emulators in existence that passes AGS Aging Cartridge (Nintendo's own internal test for their hardware) with 100% accuracy >MiSTer's NEOGEO core is cycle accurate using fucking decaps of original hardware and far better than MAME and FinalBurn>MiSTer's Saturn core has 100% passed literally every test that even exists for the Saturn, blowing away software emulation >MiSTer's latest N64 core build passes all 3667 out of 3667 tests in the most intensive test rom to date. It was already far more accurate than software emus, and is now just running circles around them>MiSTer's PSX core is cycle accurate and has zero compatibility issues compared to the dozens of Duckstation and MednafenThis is all on top of the inherent benefits of flawless video and audio latency, and lagless connection with any controller or display.
ITT: Australia -kun's slowly disintegrating brain samefag argues with himself
>>12582790SNES fails at emulating the proper experience of a period accurate SNES, MiSTer succeeds at it
>>12582794Ah yes, the "real SNES" that exists only in the platonic metaphysical realm of ideas.
>>12582791>blatantly making shit upYou can check the current issues yourself:https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/SNES_MiSTer/issues
I'm starting to think this thread's actual intended topic isn't Super Mario World.
>>12582804>feature requests>outdated core versions>using unsafe features>bugs present on original hardwareWow, you proved so much. It's already been proven more accurate than a modern SNES
the one chip SNES has some differences from the original two chip version btw
>>12582808Oh, ok, so you're just baiting
>>12582810Australia -kun's mental illness about Nintendo consoles is fascinating to watch.
>>12582810>a list of baseless github threads means the core is not highly accurateRetard
>>12582784You're falling for OP's trap, anon. This is a thinly veiled bait thread. Literally nobody alive would refer to a MiSTER as "original hardware" unless they were trying to bait people into whatever autistic argument they're trying to initiate.
>>12582821that's what Auster does. he has a psychotic obsession with hating Japanese console games and trying to sell you on Euro home computer shovelware.
Those who believe that FPGA can be a real console also believe that biological men can be a real woman.
>>12582847It's not a real console because it's more accurate than the real (current) console. It really is an incredible feat of engineering.
OP here, you mates are so fuckin easy to mess with. And the kicker? You fall for it EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.Cheers mates, Til next thread.
>>12582804>>12582810Did you even bother to read any of these so called ""issues"" you fucking tard?
>>12583019cheers lad 'av a good night, i'm bloody knackered
>>12582741i'm 36 and haven't played smw. i owned an sms when i was really young then got a playstation. I know it's hard to believe but not everyone grew up on nintendo.first time i played a mario game was sm64 emulated on my pc in like 2001 when n64 emulation was still new. it inspired me to pick up a second hand n64 later but i haven't put significant time into any snes or nes game
>>12583048thats a lot words to say you're a fucking poser casual who belongs on /v/ and not /vr/. I grew up starting off with a genesis and then a playstation and n64, have always been a nintendo guy, but that hasnt stopped me from playing (at least) all the highly regarded classics for consoles I never owned like NES, SNES, SMS, Saturn. And SMW is literally the most popular and arguably most essential SNES game, a top 5, possibly top 1 most iconic retro vidya ever made. You dont belong here, simple as. Someone who never even touched a fucking NES game belongs on /v/ and that is an objective fact. We have emulation now, there's no excuse. Not everyone has to love bing bing wahoo tendie shit, I get that, but has never even tried it? performative poser non gamer, go back to /v/ or better yet back to r*ddit.
>>12583063Wow you sound really cool and well-adjusted mentally and socially
>>12583063Not everyone cares about (retro) (2D) Mario that much bro. I've beat well over 1k games, and I have never played Super Mario World for more than 10 minutes.
>>12583079Not that obnoxious cunt you're replying to, but you really should play it, along with SMB and SMB3 as well
>>12583091he only plays adult titles for mature retro gamers, such as smash tv and cool spot
>>12583075>oh noes Im not a normie scumback to r*ddit
>>12583063all i hear is crying that i don't play the 30 year old games you played, only other 30 year old games
>>12583063also i didn't say i haven't played an nes at all, i said i haven't put significant time into one. i picked up an nes on the side of the road around the mid '00s and got a few games for it. i liked battletoads but didn't finish it. you ever put significant time into games before your time? ever played through a 2600 game?i'm fine with being called a casual gamer, since that's accurate, video games aren't my life, i just enjoy them sometimes. there's plenty of games i haven't gotten around to even on the playstation much less on systems i didn't own when they were new
>>12583167>>12583079>yeah, I totally love classic rock>I've got 1000 records on vinyl in my collection>NO, I've never listened to Dark Side of the Moon! Why should that matter, I just like other stuff!fake gamer retards detected.
>>12582497spoilers
>>12583180>you don't own the top 100 selling records of all time? guess you just don't like music
>>12583180if i said i was hugely into 2d platformers you might have a point, but i didn't, so you don't.
>>12583139>normie scum are people who don't play bing bing wahoo!!!!sure thing queen
Everyone shut the fuck up with your dumb meta dramaAnd appreciate this amazing world zone area*lightning crackles*
>>12582435>Should I go for 100% Whoa, slow down there, Sonny Jim, don't be mainlining that SMW straight off the bat. This is prime bing bing wahoo you're dealing with here. What you want to do is take it in little bumps at a time. So you "bing" and then you savour that bing, and then you come back later and you "wahoo" and you savour that wahoo. Remember: you can only play SMW for the first time once, so take it slow. Miyamoto will appreciate you for that.
>>12583334BTW, you don't 100% SMW, you "96" it.
>>12582569retard-kunt
>>12583335Do you know what percentage means?
>>12582435Obvious bait, oblivious board.
>>12582847A real woman by definition is not a female
>>12583342Do you know what an in-game completion indicator resembles?
>>12583360>resemblesThere's no "resemble" in math. It needs the symbol.
>>12582438fpbp>Should I go for 100% or is it not worth it?Play the game and don't play the parts of it that are not fun
>>12583230>fart crackleshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prIXaXB62Tk
>>12583063>>12583180It's just one of the games that fell through the cracks for me. I've beaten SMB, SMB2J, SMB2U, SMB3, SML, SML2, Warioland 1-4, but never SMW. Again, like >>12583186 said, I doubt most hobbyists have consumed every single top 100 piece of media unless they deliberately went out of their way to do it
>>12582574>more accurate than SNESShill detected, opinion rejected. It's also the most retarded take I've ever heard!>>12583339>retard-kuntYou certainly are, shill.>>12582598The MiSTer shills who are arguing that the MiSTer is "OG hardware", are the same ones who pretend that transwomen are "women". They think they can sell us their snake oil by trying to fool us into thinking that the MiSTer is "OG hardware". At least we both know the SNES is the OG hardware, not the MiSTer.
>>12584215I know you struggle with reading comprehension, but no one is saying MiSTer is more accurate than a SNES of that era, but a MiSTer does a better job recreating a SNES of that era than a modern SNES does, due to the aging hardware affecting timing in minor ways, MiSTer is just that accurate.
oh look Auster has woken up to bump the thread. i noticed it's morning in Australia right now.
>>12582791>MiSTer's NES core is the only emulator in existence with 125/125 passes on AccuracyCoinThis is obviously not true considering the entire point of the test ROM was for its author to assist in writing their own NES emulator which also passes 125/125.
>>12584785My reading comprehension is fine. You're the one getting your panties in a bunch over me calling out your snake oil(MiSTer) and the bogus claim of the MiSTer being more accurate than a SNES. I'll stick with my SNES and you can shove the MiSTer right up your ass.
>>12584812stop bumping the thread and feeding schizos
>>12584794His emulator doesn't even have sound, retard.>>12584812It's already been proven ITT. You call it snake oil yet it's far more accurate than any PC/software emulation or even modern SNES consoles.
>>12584953>It's more accurateSay whatever you want, to justify your purchase of an overpriced snake oil device. But at the end of the day, the SNES is 100% accurate, it does not make the MiSTer more accurate than the SNES, nor does it make the MiSTer "og hardware". You can date a man(MiSTer) crossdressing as a woman(SNES), but it's still a man(MiSTer).
>>12582762It was packed in with the SNES you fuckin retard.
>>12584985not everyone got a snes new if at all
>>12582438Guys im about to try the distilled water of mario games should I 100% it ahhahaahahahahahOP should be playing JP SMB3 until his eyes bleed out.>you have to be 18 to post on this website
OP here, it's fun, definitely better than SMB3, controls way better too. Art and music are also far better than SMB3, man that game was ugly. It's a little tough though, I've game overed at world 3 a few times now, but it doesn't feel like cheap bullshit like SMB3.I wish it kept track of the dinosaur coins and you could find all 5 in each stage like later games, it just doesn't seem worth it to stick your neck out for 1/5th of a 1up, especially since even missing just one gets you nothing, especially since their collection/progress isn't saved and doesn't matterI also wish the cape didn't give infinite flight, I'm not going to use it like that but seems strange to allow the player to totally bypass stages in the airI will probably use a guide because I'm not huge on exploring every inch for some secret but I'll see how easy they are to find first. Would be nice if they marked when you get all exits in a level but at least the color coding tells you when there is more than one
>>12585706Distilled water is one of the best things you can drink
>>12585778I'm surprised that you think that. SMW's super fast compared to SMB3, which does make it snappy but also makes it easy for you to slip off of things. The spin jump is the most fun mechanic that is exclusive to this game for me, you have a lot of control and it's fun to test it out on enemies. Savor it.The cape's infinite flight is probably there to make it easier for you to hunt for secret exits, the explorative aspect of the game. The cape also filters casuals so they'll be stuck with the main game mostly.
>>12585928>The cape also filters casuals so they'll be stuck with the main game mostly. What does this mean? It allows you to bypass entire stages? Or are you referring to the secret world that you need 100% to enter?
>>12585935I mean that it's difficult to master, and it's there for seasoned or advanced players that might want to explore the levels a bit more. At least when I was a kid, I couldn't keep the cape for long. And the cape doesn't actually let you skip many levels. You'll often be in an enclosed room, or in an autoscroller, or some bullshit prevents you from flying all over the room. I don't think it's that much of a game breaker. The Blue Yoshi breaks the game even worse, but it's hard to get.
