>showers you in ammo and healing items
>combat is incredibly simplistic and just involves tapping one button while the game perfectly autoaims
>changing weapons, reloading, and healing can all be done while paused removing all tension
>the progression is extremely obvious (the game even flashes/highlights where to go despite it being extremely obvious)
>every area has a detailed map even for areas you haven't been and has color coded doors
>"""puzzles""" are toddler level and just involve pushing three boxes into a row, moving two bookshelfs to match an illustration right next to it, and pushing a statue into a conveniently placed square
>scenario B even reuses many of these braindead ""puzzles"" verbatim with identical solutions
>there are no higher difficulties or arrange modes and even Max Rank is pisseasy to earn

Why does it get a free pass?

The reason why it gets a pass because it is hard to the average player, especially back in the day when game design was not as stream lined. Most people could do side scrollers, albeit badly, but 3D environments in 1998 that had to be navigated via tank controls was very difficult to navigate for most people.

All of this culminates to a very exciting feeling of braving the zombie apocalypse just to see where the story took you. Seeing a fully rendered, fully voiced cutscene was so exciting and once you beat it, there was an entire whole other scenario to try out and see what happened from another persepctive.

All i'm saying, is that it was unique and groundbreaking at the time. That is why it has so much cultural staying power. GOATED game. One of the all time classics.

>showers you in ammo and healing items

That is a lie, ammo was actuallyscarce.

Dont believe it? then try defeating ALL the zombies in the city zone(the rooms before entering the station, since the games starts to the entrance of the STARS station) only with the pistol bullets given(do not use the knife, thats is cheating) and tell me how "abundant" bullets are.
