Been playing this lately and all I can say is wow... Simply wow. Amazing game and so underrated. Easily just as good and maybe even better than Ocarina of Time. Of course you could say they're a bit hard to compare because the gameplay is so different, but is it really? It feels almost a bit like a 2D OOT and I honestly had just as much fun playing it. A true underrated classic.

the one thing this game really has over others is the worldmap is more interesting. Even the classic zelda games never ventured to have multiple continents. But let's not lie, the sidescrolling combat is inferior and the magic is out of place

Couldnt finish it as a kid, still liked it enough to play and replay up to that point often enough. Pretty sure all I missed was 1 magic meter upgrade and subsequently thunder (found the thunder teacher).

It's some of the best combat I've played in a 2D game, it's fast and responsive with a great difficulty curve, punishes you for spamming and rote formulaic play and rewards careful response timing. >>12671474One thing you notice about the overworld map and towns is not just the repetitive "textures" but they just used blank colors for much of the tiles. Probably helped save on space to make such a huge NES game but it looked bad for an NES game. Not a huge deal, it has it's own charm but if you compare it with something like Dragon Quest, you can't help but think it looks previous gen almost.
