Not sure which release added it but the ARC-S is listed among the compatible systems in the newest version of Knulli.

The one system that really needs it is the Magic X Mini Zero 28. I don't know why it hasn't been ported yet, given the Mini M from the same company is supported, as is the TrimUI Brick and Smart Pro which use the same A133P chipset as the Zero. Really needs it, the stock Android and Gamma OS core both run like ass, and as far as I can tell the only Linux option is MinUI.

Nothing does. You can build a mile-long data center and use an ocean to cool it down and you'd still struggle to get 30 frames while emulating Saturn at its original resolution, that's if the game doesn't just freeze or force close on you.
>>
>>12685773
There is an argument to be made that buying a device with a snapdragon 8 gen 2 because of the few PS2 games it can run better than the 865 and. A few shaders.
But sure, the RP5 is great value
>>
>>12686352
Compatibility is pretty good now actually. The problem is accuracy, especially graphically. Some emulators are fixing the vdp emulation though so it's looking hopeful finally

>>
>>12686858
There is definitely a performative aspect to handheld where one continues to tinker with a device, set up frontends, collect a billion roms, buy new devices just to end up playing nothing. Kinda like retro collectors who just buy games and consoles for the sake of having them and they end up sitting on a perfectly arranged display shelf never getting played. As long as you actually play the games it doesn't matter what the rom collection or front end looks like and if a front end helps with immersion and turns it into a console like experience instead of just looking at Android apps. Most Linux devices have front ends, the only difference is that you don't have to do much work to set it up compared to Android where you get choice paralysis and always end up tweaking things to get them just right and never settle on anything.

>reducing ram and storage speeds and capacity
Relating to this, say for example I'm interested in the Nova; What are the storage speeds likely to be vs. what Retroid was using previously, and in comparison to a micro SD card?

Looking up the datasheet of the QCS8550, the SoC is rated for UFS 4.0 onboard flash (max 5800MB/s across up to 2x lanes at 2900MB/s each) and removable media at SD 3.0 speeds (since they advertised a 'TF card' slot and I'm aware that's just a micro SD without the royalties to the SD consortium this would mean UHS-I speeds max so ~100MB/s burst or ~10MB/s sustained) however I'm ignorant as to the quality of the NAND flash they package in with these things, both before and after everything went to shit; is this a situation where you would need to prioritise the 128GB onboard for storing certain types of content or is SD card performance good enough across the board not to matter?

How do Wii controlls even work on a handheld? Can the emulator on android even work with official wii remote and accessories? That would be a decent way to play wii if you connect to an external screen.
>>
>>12687880
>How do Wii controlls even work on a handheld?
Same as it does on anything else. It either uses gyro for the pointer or if binds the axis to the right stick and you use it as a much slower pointer. It uses left stick as a Nunchuk attachment, Z and C are usually bound to triggers, and then the other buttons are bound to the usual suspects.
>>
>>12687579
I don't even bother with psp on my r36s.
>>
>>12687923
It barely plays well enough in H700 'helds.
Most 2D and 2.5D shooters play well, so do most Isometric RPGs, but locked in 30fps of course, some slow downs in crowded effects

In my experience I end up removing those that that play well enough anyway, to make room for Portmaster games that dont carry the emulation overhead.

PSP and Dreamcast ROMs are huge, usually the biggest Portmaster games are the same size. DVD kinda' thing.

>>
>>12687605
Storage speeds basically don't matter for emulation, especially the Nova that's meant for 4:3, so up to 6th gen.
It just feels bad how companies have had to downgrade because of the increase in prices.
Some Android apps/games do need internal storage and don't let you use an SD card, but for most emulators you can get by with having everything on an SD card.

>Get your butthole fooled, it was a marketing stunt.
The "additional production," meaning the Stardust Purple model, was available for about 3 minutes before it sold out. You're the one who has no idea what he's talking about. There was no meaningful additional production, just a handful of purple models no one could buy. The original run was only slightly larger, effectively an engineering batch.

The "marketing stunt" nonsense comes from Reddit, which has an irrational hate boner for Ayaneo. There's no elaborate plan here, Ayaneo simply made bad business decisions and sold what they had chips for. The Micro 2 is far too expensive to manufacture and was overshadowed by the Nova, so they're pretending it's a limited model to save face.

The ergonomics on the Thor are worse than a horizontal handheld, but that doesn't mean they are bad.

>>
>>12691696
Good fucking luck. It's finicky as shit, the aspect ratio of the lower screen breaks so many apps, and audio balancing is just impossible. It's loud as hell over wired earbuds and Bluetooth audio basically doesn't work on it. It's a terrible experience for watching & gaming simultaneously and it's why I ended up reselling mine. I even used the DSP hacks and it still wasn't worth the hassle. Also it's really uncomfortable to hold for more than 10 minutes. The grip barely helped. I switched to the Konkr Pocket Fit and while I can't multitask it's better in every other way.

This sounds miserable and might be what I hate most about the Thor's popularity. You're emulating games for fun as a leisure activity. If you need a distraction from that, it's not leisure anymore. It's work. Grinding as a phase of a game is sometimes understandable, but not for hundreds of hours.

>>
>>12687983
Sorry for the late reply, but thank you I appreciate the confirmation.
The situation with the rising cost of memory really sucks but as long micro SDs remain (relatively) affordable and their speed isn't going to become a bottleneck then conserving your limited 128GB of onboard storage for only the bare necessities should be relatively manageable. I guess I was just wondering if it was a PS5 sort of situation where the asset streaming feature doesn't work properly if you're trying to run a game from an NVMe drive installed in the M.2 expansion slot vs. from the console's 1TB/2TB soldered flash memory (although in this case it's more that, eg. GC/PS2 games will choke because Micro SD cards are so slow).

>>12692226
Sounds like cubital tunnel syndrome.
If changing position doesn't work per >>12692243's recommendation, or there's nowhere else you can play, try looking up some stretching exercises.

It's not really good outside of lightweight titles. And even most of those will require you to run it at a 1x resolution.

You would be getting rid of what is ostensibly a handheld PC for a phone that has significant concessions to play the games the Steam Deck can play natively. GameNative and Switch emulation is not only not great on either of the devices you mentioned, but it heavily eats into your battery to do so and runs the system hot whereas on the Steam Deck you can play any PC game natively without those weird concessions the Thor or Portal would require and play games far newer than they could even poorly run if they even boot at all. They both also require bespoke drivers to get the best performance out of PC gaming and Switch gaming whereas on the Steam Deck you're just using a PC. That's also ignoring the fact that android emulators are generally worse than PC emulators.

Even if you are not playing AAA games GameNative is not that kind in terms of performance or games it can run. Assuming the games don't instantly crash you're likely going to be having piss poor framerates, and if you're not having piss poor framerates your system will likely be running unreasonably hot so you need a secondary cooling solution. There's a reason why every Youtuber touting it as something revolutionary tells you it's basically just for 2D indies and anything more demanding than 2D indies has huge asterisks.
