Do you think they will do a V2 with a better fan(less noisy, non-adhesive)?
>>
>>12741109
No they will just make a new more expensive 4:3 because they don't care to keep their older kinos in stock
>>
>>12741109
Did Odin 3 or Thor get a v2 to fix their fans? There you go.
>>
>>12741123
The Thor never had a fan issue unless yours is defective.
>>
My Thor's battery is so dogshit, I don't know if it's Cocoon or what, but it is not lasting as long as every review said it should.
>>
Who care about fan noise?

What are you playing and how long is it lasting? Because I use coccoon too and haven't noticed a difference. I don't have any fancy animated icons on mine though, just static images.
You could always use the power draw little circle on the bottom screen thing to compare.
>>

i care, so much so that any fan at all is an automatic dealbreaker for me, plus tens of gaping empty holes in the body are an unacceptable vector for the ingress of dust and debris

>>
>>12741181
I don't get who would want this...
>>
>>12741169
I care because it ruins the idea of a comfy handheld in bed, especially because most of these can run really damn noisy.

Its currently why I think I'll just wait until the chips in these things get stronger and more efficient, because if people are telling me the Thor still needs to have the fans at 20-30% just to run DS then that's pretty useless to me.
>>
>>12741463
my rg35xxh has no fans and runs ds shit without a problem
>>
>>12741463
If fans or clicky buttons are enough to send you crying, you never had the makings of a varsity gamer.
>>
Are the fans on the Nova really that noisy if you're not playing slopcringe like Switch and AAA steam games?
>>
>>12741490
Reviewers are whining about fan on high, and that only ramps up on stupid hard to run stuff, not PS2. Even the gamehub lite crap shouldn't get too hot for indieshit and really old stuff, the kind you'd actually get fullspeed performance from in my experience on the RP5.

>>12741506
So you are just trolling then and it wasn't a legitimate question?
The 8gen2 runs PS2 no sweat, I run mine with a medium underclock (clocks can't go above 75%) and it doesn't affect performance at all, I can still speed it up to 200%.
>>
>>12741506
Schizo-kun please, you're ignoring context. My RP5 doesn't scream bloody murder running PS2, that means it's not getting dangerously hot.

SP is a toss up, we don't know all about it yet except that its hinge is a beast. 35XXSP, I can tell you from experience that my battery crapped out a few months in and also the side cover of the hinge came off so the hinge bar thing itself keeps trying to exit out the side every time I open or close the device, plus people have complaints about the buttons slowly damaging some internal parts or something. Solid otherwise, just another H700.

Assuming the Miyoo Flip v2.1 indeed fixed the hinges like they're saying, the 35xxSP has no reason to exist anymore. Very washed out screen and the buttons will pierce through the membranes and the domes, that's fact.

5's okay. Loses points for the speaker (though at least they integrated the DSP curve into the firmware) and the glass front, though I can't bash it for requiring a grip or being too cramped because every 16:9 is like that. You are because you need to explain more. What OS? What do you mean by sync games? I've shared SD2 between H700 Anbernic devices with Syncthing running on one of them, but sharing an SD card between Android handhelds is an entirely different situation.

>>12741832
Syncthing is so easy, what sucks about it? I've synced between Android, MuOS, Windows, and NextUI, and it always works fine. The limitations are usually with the OS, not Syncthing.

It's not a trend, it's self-censorship. You get demonetized or visibility-limited when you use adult terms such as "died" or "killed," so people say unalived instead.

Corn and graped are other examples of how easy it was for big platforms to teach users to self-censor.

>>
>>12744327
You probably don't even need the fan on for gba
>>
>>12744338
then it has no reason being there at all, ergo 34xx mogs
>>
Why the Konkr is better than RG34XX:
>no dpad for ants
>true full sized buttons for X and Y
>probably comfier ergonomics being slightly wider and having the anti slip textures at the back
>better battery life and sleep mode thanks to android
>more powerful chip means it won't chug in the non-gba stuff
>stereo speakers which can get loud as opposed to mono
>better and smoother UI due to higher ram
>some PS2 games
>the bezel looks trurer to the original
>access to tilt emulators for warioware twisted
>4X interger scale (Russ is coping by saying you won't notice the difference)

There's no doubt about it. It will make the RG34XX feel like a crappy toy. People will rebute with "yeah well it's only meant for GBA, you don't need all that" but in that case, why have the extra buttons on RG4XX at all? Also, the screen has a weird color temperature to me. Never liked it.

Never knew dpad mods would be such a huge pain in the ass. Bought a dpad mod for my legion go online because the original was so shallow diagonals were impossible. Put the mod in and it was an improvement in some ways but had accidental diagonals out the ass. Had to open back up, put tape in the middle then shape off plastic on each 3d printed tip then burned them ever so slightly to make it more even. Works perfectly now. very consistent and passes the contra test.

Hey, I don’t know what gives you the impression that Navy guys are all limp wristed seamen. Have you ever had to suck anything? It takes a LOT out of you. And really makes the cheeks ache.
And then there's pulling rope.
Nobody, and I mean nobody pulls rope like a Navy guy. They likely have the strongest wrists of all!
They are up there with oil rig workers as the hardest professional men. Freezing conditions lead to many men losing fingers due to frostbite. Although rumours of them snapping off inside some cabin boy are pure speculation. The game of finding tattooed knuckles inside the arse-bag of a sailor- otherwise known as 'Scottish Scrabble', are entirely fictional.

This is a a somewhat technical question but I figured this would be a good place to ask.

There seems to be an issue with the Linux/Android gamepad drivers for more recent handhelds. Specifically, the newer gamepads/handhelds have more than 3 face/menu buttons, and there isn't a consistent mapping for the 4th or more button.

The Linux kernel only defines 3 "menu" button types, Start/Select/Mode
https://docs.kernel.org/input/gamepad.html
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/include/uapi/linux/input-event-codes.h#L398
So far as I can tell, SDL is following the same model, more or less. I'm still not sure exactly how it connects to the evdev output of the kernel
https://wiki.libsdl.org/SDL3/SDL_GamepadButton

Long story short, I think this currently manifests in inconsistent / random mappings or behaviour for newer controllers / handhelds which have more that 3 menu/face buttons. Some drivers map the 4th key to "BTN_Z" (switch controller), some of the android drivers seem to map a button to "KEY_HOME", a keyboard press.

Is this a know issue or phenomenon with more recent handhelds and gamepads? I'm trying to figure out if there is a known workaround for SDL, or whether this is a deep issue that ultimately needs a Linux kernel update to add provision for more face buttons.
>>
>>12744360
>no dpad for ants
And frankly it looks ridiculous, now the face buttons look too small.
>true full sized buttons for X and Y
Actually, they're the same size or smaller than 34xx's.
>some PS2 games
Absurd cope.
>the bezel looks trurer to the original
Not a good thing when it doesn't match it and has branding. And it doesn't follow the body's design either, so what's the point really.
>why have the extra buttons on RG4XX at all?
So sickos like me can play SNES. And turbo B and A.
>Also, the screen has a weird color temperature to me. Never liked it.
Looks okay to me. Glad they only oversaturated the 34xxSP's.

false diagonals don't exist, the only thing that exists are retards who don't have proper motor skills because their brains are rotted from dopamine overload
>>
>>12744687
>false/overly sensitive diagonals
There is no such thing as a "false diagonal". That is a term and a flaw that is entirely made up. You're deliberately moving your finger in multiple directions, so the movement cannot be "false".
By the same logic the lack of a "false diagonal" is significantly more concerning, as you're actively trying to move in 2 directions at the same time but your input is being "ignored". I mean, when exactly are you going to press the down key and pull it onto a side? Normally you'd only do this if you're trying to also move sideways.
>>
Yeah /hhg/, that thing literally every modern d-pad suffers from? Never happened. I'm sponsored by Max Zhou btw.
>>
dpads definitely suffer from retards using them incorrectly and then choosing to blame the dpad for they themselves being retarded
>>
>>12744706
I don't know why, but "Scottish Scrabble" got me good. Mother of kek!
>>
>>12744881
Frankly I'd rather have a device tailored for function over form, because the GBA wasn't even a perfect handheld with its shit D-pad. If there's room to improve on Nintendo's designs, you should take it instead of being a 1:1 copy for better and worse.
>>
>>12745107
Yeah dude, "false diagonals" totally exist. Just like "spontaneous breakage" does. You know, when you get angry in a game and you throw your handheld against a wall and it just breaks? Man, I HATE that many handhelds suffer from this issue.
>>
>>12745189
are you implying false diagonals don't exist? how stupid are you there are countless dpads with overly sensitive dpads that will register left or right when you press down at the slightest angle. just because you've never experienced something doesn't mean it doesn't exist, how would you feel if you didn't eat breakfast this morning?
>>
>>12745115
>>12745189
>t.
>>
>>12745249
>when you press down at the slightest angle
This would suggest you're trying to do diagonal movement. You're not experiencing a "false diagonal", you're experiencing the consequences of your deliberate action.
>>
>>12745189
s-shitter sisters?? do we really need to be better men after all ..?
>>
>>12744352
>then it has no reason being there at all
This doesn't get talked about enough, Chinks really do have an obsession with unnecessary active cooling. I'd much rather have a thinner and lighter handheld, especially when it's something small like the Konkr Advance or Ayaneo Micro. The fan is unneeded for anything you'll actually play.
>>
>>12745249
>muh "slightest angle"
videogames aren't for you if you can't manage to have proper motor function in your thumbs, sorry kid
>>
>>12744641
The original dpad's issue was how shallow it was once again, It needed an entirely much longer plastic base. Imagine a SUPER CLICKY dpad that is practically flush with the surrounding plastic. It was terrible. You couldn't use diags at all with stock dpad plastic. The custom one I'm using has magnets on it and turns it into an xbox elite setup. So I bought a metal plate for it and it looks golden now.
>>
I really want to like my miyoo flip v2 but the charging issues are just deplorable. Doesn't matter if I use 5v/1a or 5v/2a. The fucking thing will still take over 6 hours to charge and then somehow even after sleeping for those 6 hours still tell me it needs more charging for yet a 7th hour even when the battery says 99%. This isn't usable at this point. No device should ever take more than 4 hours to charge.
>>
>>12745543
your battery got degraded from exposure to heat and regular use, replace it, or replace the whole thing with a better device
>>
>>12745564
I think I'm gonna just have to use a different device because this thing was brand new. Really sucks as the new hinge made me really want to like this device. I shall not be buying non snapdragon battery controllers ever again. Its so bad that the battery meter is vastly inaccurately, often going up or down during play. I try to discharge it to recalibrate but very next use it died at 50% as it if it were completely dead and didn't even give me a red light to warn shutdown.

Does anyone have experience with either Spruce or Knulli on the Brick? I need an OS that supports auto save/load state, but also doesn't suck on the Brick.

>NextUI
Perfect for the Brick, sleep is amazing, nice LED functionality. But no auto state, only state slots.

>MuOS
Limited Brick support: toggle switch isn't configurable and can't use the LEDs. Sleep is worse. But works perfectly with auto state.

Do any of these android handhelds that have speakers that aren't complete dogshit?

Unironically my 40 dollar moto g play can play up to psp at x5 native and its super light in comparison to my much heavier redmagic 11 pro. Plus it has expandable sd card storage so I just stuck my miyoo flip sd card in there and moved on with my day since I have a gamesar x5 lite. I want to love my legion go but man that thing is just way too big. Maybe if I started working out or something it'd be different. Its really a shame too. The redmagic seems like the magic bullet solution but no expandable storage means I have to use a much heavier controller that adds usb-otg passthrough to slap in a tiny little flash drive on it. So it just seems like the moto g play wins for now unless I can convince myself the legion go is worth it for higher end systems. I still want something pocketable I can fit in my fanny pack and my x5 lite gamesar is just small enough.
>>
I have one more idea though. Take the controllers off the legion go, use a bag that can vent heat easily and then buy some display glasses while walking around with a normal controller.
>>
>>12745687
>under $200
Technically, I guess, you want the 8GB model ($175), since 4GB of RAM is not enough for PS2, but also
>PS2 on a 4.2" screen
>>
>>12745897
Its SOC isn't enough for ps2 regardless. Only my redmagic 11 pro is. It's got 16gb and can fullspeed ToTK. Issue is only 512gb of storage. Its fine if you don't like having all your libraries in one device but I don't like carrying multiple devices on me at once.

All I want is either better MuOS support on the Brick or for NextUI to finally support auto states in RetroArch like every other OS.

Knulli I haven't tried yet though, if anyone can speak to how it works on the Brick. I hate how the Brick is the perfect size, has a great screen, and excellent sleep, but you're forced to pick between an OS that supports it properly (NextUI) and having auto states (literally every other OS).
>>
>>12751653
I don't think I've used stock firmware on any linux chinkheld since, uh... ever. But for me it's no contest, I go with Knulli over MuOS every time because putting the latter on my purpose-built gaming devices makes them feel like they're some other gizmo that I've hacked to run emulators on them. Takes me back to putting RockBox on my old Sandisk Sansa e200 and loading up a GBC emulator on it, feels like wet janky bullshit. I prefer frontends that make my video game systems feel like video game systems, and I've never once gotten that feeling when I tried MuOS.

Yes I have it been playing it since it got here. I put a couple hours into a Switch game today and it didn’t crank the fan. Anyway the Nova is awesome I wasn't sure about a 4:3 device but having it I remember how much better this resolution is than 16:9. Have been playing Saturn, 3do, and sega master system mostly since I never had played these systems before. i think the retro game corps guy plays a lot of pc games since he shills Game Native regularly and that is probably what pushes the cpu. Switch (eden)drains the battery much faster than older stuff on retroarch.

I wish someone would make a handheld with the same design philosophy as the gba and original gameboy. A lot of retro devices have those form factors or designs that make it feel retro but it's still very modern. I want someone to take the GBA classic and basically turn it into a 4:3 or 16:9 device, instead of making the usual slab with flat or bumped back we usually get. I really like the konker advance design but it's a full gba clone that has an aspect ratio which only works for that system because everything else looks too small on it.
>>
>>12754184
You want someone to make a GBA with the wrong aspect ratio for GBA?
>>
>>12754178
Why not get a DSi XL at that point? It's got larger integer scaled screens and is more comfortable on the whole due to being a larger model.

>>12754195
No I want something designed like the gba and original gb, this doesn't mean it is a copy of the device. Both the gba and gb have a similar design philosophy despite being vertical and horizontal systems. I want this but with a different aspect ratio screen so I can play more systems. I want a retro style but with a better screen even if the ergonomics are not as good as just making it a boring flat slab.
>>
>>12754210
I'm really not sure what you mean by "design philosophy"
If you want something colorful there are options. If you want something that sacrifices ergonomics in favor of visual appeal then I doubt that was an intentional design point for the GBA and SP. They had bad ergonomics because they were made for child sized hands, not because they prioritized how they looked over how they felt to hold.
>>
>>12754209
I do like the design of it, at least more than their snes controller enspired device ehich feels too gimicky. Wish it could play saturn tho

Like that other anon mentioned I have no clue what you mean by design philosophy unless you mean you want it looking like an older handheld instead of a modern one. I guess you mean you want it more than a early 2000s handheld and before than a 2010s and onwards device? In that case your options are a bit limited since all I can think of are the GKD Bubble, the original RG SP, and I'm basically drawing a blank for anything else.

would the ayn Thor run monster hunter 3U/4U at full speed? what about MHGU (switch)?
also what handheld can comfortably run PC games? (not latest, newest AAA stuff, but things like dark souls 1-3, maybe elden rang)

or maybe I should just get a more powerful phone, as I got a gamesir x4 aileron and its alright, been emulating old consoles without issues. For some reason I get a lot of inputlag on PPSSPP, but that might be the emulator as other consoles run nicely (using retroarch with latency mitigations including run-ahead frames)
I got a switch v1 too, hacked so I can run emulators on it but to be honest I want a more portable device, I asked for the thor because it looks like a 3DS, something you can for real carry in your pocket.
>>
>>12754626
if you want to run pc games, a pc handheld is still the best option. as good as performance can be on android handhelds, compatibility is too spotty
>>
>>12754626
Thor can run rise, so I assume it can run all those, and input lag is inevitable because android is shit, but you can minimize it to an extent with oled and emulator settings, and like the other anon said, pc emulation is still not that great
>>
>>12754626

>>
>>12754652
I think the only good bargains are cheap Steam Decks and ROG allys right now. Even then I'd recommend you try and install a Linux distro like Bazzite on a Windows handheld as soon as you can because Windows straight up sucks on a handheld with limited resources. It's not even a stable experience, and the "Xbox Mode" is just an awkward WIP bandaid fix rather than something proper.
>>
>>12754667
no steam OS?
>>
>>12754652
Well, you picked the worst possible time yet to buy a computer. There's a lot of second hand cheap UMPCs from people who thought they were getting a PS4 Pro out of a 15w device.

>>12754693
There's nothing SteamOS does in particular that Bazzite doesn't also do, other than some optimizations for the Deck hardware looking at some benchmarks where CachyOS somehow falls behind. All Valve has been working on and funding has been upstreamed to everything else.

I'll add this though, yes, there are notable performance and power consumption gains going Linux instead of Windows on those, but the real kicker? Games just working. And not because of Proton and DXVK being very mature, but because Linux can handle these displays being native portrait without having a stroke during the conversion to landscape and requiring manually placed wrappers to run. That said, I think the Ally in particular is native landscape.
>>
>>12754715
What's the best vertical with 120 hz OLED and dual sticks?
>>
>>12754720
Doesn't exist. Next best thing is the 477V, 120hz IPS.
>>
>>12754693
This anon (>>12754715) basically sums it up. Beyond that, one of the issues with SteamOS is that its largely optimized for the Deck and Machine first while everything else was an afterthought for the longest time. In fact Valve themselves went on to mention that they would recommend people use literally any other distro over SteamOS for the longest time, especially when it came to installing it on desktops or laptops. It shouldn't be too large a difference because SteamOS should still be the frontend used, Proton is still the compatibility layer used for Windows games on Linux, and Bazzite should also have more community help compared to SteamOS due to being out longer.

Just imagine with current gen Snapdragons they would probably run it with enough optimisation. It surprised me I didn't think we had reached so far. But I'd imagine the heat and battery expense is atrocious. Which company could use the better chips AND make the scale for an "affordable" power handheld? Samsung? Microsoft?
>>
>>12754907
Give it a few months of extended use and it'll start to feel like shit.
Happened to my RG35XXSP (and the face buttons) and it's happening to my RG34XXSP.

From what I understand, some emulators that run on Android store configuration files/save data/etc. in a system directory which is not accessible to other applications; this is problematic for those hoping to use file management apps to keep everything synchronised and/or backed up automatically, although for whatever reason Retroarch somehow does not have this issue. However, the emulation cores available in Retroarch may be significantly outdated relative to the emulator version available as a discrete Android app, one such example being Dolphin.

Looking into this I've seen a few workarounds discussed, albeit with little concensus:
>Root your device
>Install an old build of Dolphin that did allow you to manually configure everything, and then update it to the latest version (Why did they ever remove this if it was possible before? Also, can those directories be changed afterwards?)
>Install a hacked version of Dolphin compiled by some random guy
>Enable USB debugging on your device, install ADB tools and send a particular command that disables sandboxing but may not persist after a reboot
>Install another, separate application that does folder mirroring from the system directory to a non-protected location
All of these seem dubious or prone to failure, but (if I haven't missed a better alternative) which is going to be the least janky solution?
>>
>>12755083
I don't fuck with syncthing, but root should solve all your problems immediately and universally. Only downside for rooting is if you're a gacha loving animal and your stupid garbage won't run with it.
>>
>>12755083
I use Syncthing between all of my handhelds, root is firmly the best option. Once you set it up there's nothing janky about it at all, since all you did was give Syncthing permission to the directories it needs.

I've tried some of the other methods you're considering, and they're all compromises I'd only consider if you had one problem system. Scoped storage sucks, but there's not much you can do about it.

>>
>>12755592
yeah? no need for active cooling, lighter, has display out, cheaper. konkr is quite literally pointless because all the power it has still means you're limited to the same games due to the lack of analog sticks. so you're paying a premium for what, a different color?
>>
>>12755567
Define good. You can go cheap and put up with pcsx-rearmed or spend more and get duckstation with all the modern standards. The selection of stickless duckstation capable chinkhelds is pretty dire though.

>reviewers judging build quality
When reviewers say "build quality" it literally means nothing. It's just a buzz word they like to use for something "feeling nice and looking pretty".
None of them have used the devices for over a year to even be capable of judging the build qualities. None of them are sprinking these devices with water or dropping them on the floor to see how durable they are.
>>
>>12755707
Very much this. Even outside the chinkheld space, these fucking morons will talk about a controller or something and say retarded shit like "the build quality feels good" because it's heavy. And "it feels cheap" because it's light. Heavier plastic doesn't make the contacts on your silicon short out less. Heavier plastic doesn't stop your battery from exploding. Nothing pisses me off more than some fucking retard telling me light = cheap. heavy = premium
>>
>>12755659

There's no point in playing anything other than gba and wonderswan on a 3:2 screen. Tired of turd world shitskin retards constantly demanding every single device be a one-size-fits-none device.

You're getting a higher resolution panel and a more solidly put together device with a D-pad that doesn't seem to suck. For most people that's probably worth the investment if they really love GBA that much.
>>
>>12755931
>ayaneo

pretty much everything will scale worse on it since it's not 480p. and it's no better for gba, the main gimmick.

The RG34XX dpad is definitely not a good one so I'm looking forward to testing the Konkr if it really has no false diagonals like TechDweeb says

it's payday and i am having some serious ayn thor fomo, can anyone answer: do you think there will be a new revision soon since it's been out a year? is 8gen2 basically the best we're goin to get in this formfactor for a while? is it really a pain in the ass to config or is that just normies being idiots? is the new rumored, cheaper dual screen from ambernic or retroid goin to be worth waiting for if i dont care about anything more than ps2/gc?
