What is your favorite track

AND

What is your favorite track theme?

For me, it's Port Town 2, and Silence.
>>
>>12747696
I think I like how Big Blue looks the most. Port Town music is good too. This remix was ok

Sand Ocean has always been a favorite of mine, both the track itself and the music.
There's also a bangin' live guitar remix of Sand Ocean >>12747881 and Port Town.

I love the Blue Monday reference in Red Canon's theme.

Ngl, when it comes to the SNES OST, I think the covers are better than the OGs. Though, if I had to pick, probably White Land I. As for a favorite course, I'm partial to Mute City II and III, as well as Sand Ocean.

In F-Zero 99, Classic Big Blue II and Silence II are also pretty fun to play.

The what

And it's Red Canyon
>>
>>12747696
Silence for both.
The entire OST is great though. Least favorite music track is probably white land 2, but it's still appropriately atmospheric. Banger after banger.

The woman who composed the F-Zero music did such a good job she temporarily alleviates my chauvinism
>>
>>12751163
At 57 seconds into Red Canyon's theme the drum beat is very similar to the song Blue Monday by New Order. Given it was a popular song it was probably a reference.

Is there a way to play F-Zero '99 on a Switch emulator? I use Ryujinx.

>The word retro means imitation or revival of past styles, trends, or methods. Coming from the Latin prefix for "backward" or "behind", it describes brand-new items, clothing, music, or designs that are newly made to look old-school.
>>
>>12752382
>This board is for the discussion of classic, or "retro" games, including consoles, computer games, arcade games (including pinball) and any other forms of video games. Retro gaming means platforms launched in 2001 and earlier, and official game titles for those platforms released no later than December 2007 (homebrew console games made after this date will be permitted). The Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Game Boy Advance, and Sony PlayStation 2 will now be considered "retro".

Imagine if Nintendo could dig up the arrangements from the BS games. I'd love to hear these in higher quality.

Googling it, romslab has it, but it seems you need Yuzu for it. Not sure how far you'll get into it, given how much is tied to the online service.
>>
>>12752396
We know we just don't care.
Also words can have multiple meanings in English, dictionaries aren't prescriptive they are descriptive.
>>
>>12747696
They're all so good. Maybe it is your pic that is swaying my decision but I am just thinking Big Blue. Easy and is practically what I am thinking of first.
>>
>>12747881
it's pretty cool that nintendo was able to deliver essentially a functional 3d racer so early, 1991.only thing that matters is the real 360 degree turning and draw distance, elevation change outside of a stylistic flourish is going to be lost on an arcade raging game.
>>
>>12752497
>Not sure how far you'll get into it, given how much is tied to the online service.
Yeah, that's what I was wondering about. Might have to wait for the next gigaleak.
>>
For me its DUCT
>>
>>12754242
The heck? They made a 'zero for the virtual boy?
>>
>>12754315
Yes, It released after 30 years finally.
And its cool as hell.
"Zero Racers" (formerly known as G-ZERO)

>>12753546
Once again Nintendo fans taking credit for everything. F-Zero ripped off Stun Runner hard. Atari should have sued their asses.
>>
>>12754325
That is pretty similar and pretty cool, however shooting in racing games is cringe, and nintendo knew just what to do to perfect it.
>>
>>12754325
I meant in the console context, I didn't mean to imply they had claim over more advanced arcade machines. that said does this game feature actual turning or is it fixed like an outrun type game?
>>
>>12754325
They play nothing alike though.
>>
>>12753546
yeah that's the trick nintendo stumbled upon, you don't really need 3d game logic you just need the visual approximation of depth. a free (x,y) coordinate system is sufficient for game logic but is impractical and unsatisfying to display visually in the context of a racing game.
>>
>>12754978
>nothing
dont be absurd, watch a video and stop lying
>>
>>12755589
I don’t need to watch a video, I’ve played them both. The only real similarity is that I believe they both have boost pads, which I’m sure plenty of previous racing games already had. They’re not even racing games in the same sense.
>>
>>12747696
I don't know, big bro. I really just want to have a turn playing this instead of having to wait until everyone has fucked off, your friends all went home, and I have to sneak into your room just to play it for like 30 seconds before being discovered by our mom and whisked away on some gay grocery store trip.

I supposed fire field for both because it's the rarest track.
>>
>>12753509
F-Zero Legend is the only gba title that I would still play today. The metroid games were ok, but I really just dislike the gba.
>>
>>12755693
Besides the boost pad, ramps, and shape of vehicle I think it has the same general theme going on. Lets not also pretend that japos were above copying western media.
>>
>>12755708
That “general theme” being… a futuristic cityscape? Oh yeah, that’s extremely esoteric. That’s a common theme in the media of all cultures, that’s not an East vs West thing. Astro Boy existed in the sixties.
>>
>>12755727
Common theme being the entire style of the game visually.
>>
>>12755729
F Zero seems way closer to Speed Racer aesthetically if anything
>>
>>12755732
Could be, Speed racer was before my time.
Only caught a few reruns here and there. Dont remember much.
>>
>>12747696
Based.
>>
>>12755702
Fire Field has a great theme.
>>
>>12754325
Stun runner is way better. And I like Fzero. The fact of the matter is the first FZero game is more of a proof of concept than a complete game. They stopped at a point and just polished the sound and levels and made an ok game. Now X and GX those games were great.
>>
>>12755708
all of that is pointless. the original anon wasn't talking about fzero inventing the concept of a futuristic pod racer, they were talking about a circuit racing game with free turning and position.
>>
>>12759963
>they invented circuit racing and positions and turning

lmao
>>
>>12759973
>heh i'm being obtuse

>The fact of the matter is the first FZero game is more of a proof of concept than a complete game.
Meme.
F-Zero is a complete game. My kid had been into cars and wheels since he was an infant. Has hundreds of matchbox cars. Let him play a variety of racing games mario kart, gran turismo(psx and ps3), a bunch of N64 racers (waverace, fzero X, etc). The SNES F-Zero is the one he became obsessed with. Levels and vehicles have the perfect amount of character and are extremely vivid and memorable. There are enough levels to feel like a serious progression and have to get actually good at the game to beat them. The action is fast, exciting and clear. He'd practice over and over, getting better slowly. He'd cover the driveway with chalk race courses with names inspired by the F-Zero location names.

He enjoyed playing other racing games but always came back to F-Zero. It's the one with soul.

Call it a mode 7 tech demo if you want, but many games fail to be even half as good.

>He'd cover the driveway with chalk race courses with names inspired by the F-Zero location names.
Absolutely based
>>
>>12759428
I think you're being needlessly provocative. yeah it was a 1990 launch game, it's thin on content, but the core of a 3d circuit racer imagined as a futuristic wave racer was rock solid, especially for the time.
