It's an incredibly poorly-paced (seriously, why is it 49 fucking episodes, no other Macross series is anywhere near this long), not particularly well-animated show about an MC that is intentionally meant to be grating to people.
And yet, I DON'T FUCKING CARE, I WANTED HIM TO MOVE THAT MOUNTAIN IN THE FINAL EPISODE! I WAS INVESTED GODDAMNIT!

Macross 7 has so many glaring issues, many of which have been brought up in /m/ time and time again. However, it has so much energy and emotion to it that I can't help but consider it possibly the strongest Macross. That's obviously a subjective opinion, but I feel many share it. Japan loves the fuck out of it for a reason.
