It will run like shit nowhttps://pcsx2.net/blog/2026/pcsx2-2.8/
>>12788901I'm still using 1.7.5776 since they removed Async Mix afterwards.
>Emulator improvement: Asking the user to have an even higher-spec PC
>>12788901I only skimmed the page, but it looks to me like it has stricter requirements, but it runs better given good hardware than previous versions? My PC was only $800 and blows those "suggested heavy" requirements out of the water so I might update it (2.4.0 now) unless people are having real issues.
>>12788918>the user to have an even higher-spec PC>Ryzen 5 5600even as a third worlder, that's the standard for a decent gaming pc over here
>>12788901is there any actual numbers or are you just crying for no reason?
if you don't have something equivalent to a gtx 1650 then idk what to tell you, you were probably already running it at slideshow statusI can't imagine wtf it's doing that would ever require a 4060 though unless it's talking like 4k resolution with raytracing hacked in
Actually it runs better. I primarily play on a steam deck which is not fancy hardware. I can turn hardware readbacks back on in gran tourism 4. Cold winter runs smoothly with fixed shadows. Mgs3 isn't perfect, but there's a definite improvement.
good thing i own a PS2 and don't have to rely on Emulators
>>12788901The only real fixes is that Steambot Chronicles no longer looks like someone forgot to turn off the fog machine, and The Clone Wars and LA Rush no longer have garbled textures covering the screen. Everything else they showed off looked like incredibly minor rendering changes that the average user won't really notice at all.Oh, and they still haven't fixed the floating point issue regarding Drv3r and Stuntman.
>>12788901That doesn't say that the latest update in particular demands more powerful hardware than the previous; it sounds like they're saying that the suggested minimum requirements have been out of date for a while.
>>12788930i still have a 1080ti and it's run everything i've thrown at it so far for me. i'm afraid of updating now though...
Ok, so I've ran versions 2.6.3 (stable), 2.7.525 (nightly) and 2.8.0 back to back to back on my potato linux laptop and if anything it seems like the newer version runs slightly better so /v/ was losing their minds for nothing. I'll keep an old version around just in case but so far it seems like a nothingburger if you don't run games @ max settings.

How the FUCK did Sony make the Emotion Engine? Even god-tier rigs today can't keep up with it while I can just turn on my PS2 and play the games fine. As expected of the company that would later produce The Cell.
>>12789140We are here too, always have been
>>12789146You're using generalized hardware to emulate specialized hardware. Games on the PS2 were tailored for that specific hardware. You'd be surprised how much you can get out of a platform when you can optimize heavily for it.

>>12789146>How the FUCK did Sony make the Emotion Engine? Even god-tier rigs today can't keep up with it while I can just turn on my PS2 and play the games fine. As expected of the company that would later produce The Cell. The issue is that no documentation was released for the Emotion Engine that fans can access. Fans making emulators have to learn everything from trial and error. That's why it's so unoptimized and takes forever to get less buggy. It's the same problem with arcade emulators. No documentation was released for the hardware for arcade motherboards. Fans literally have to test each computer chip by hand, figure out what they do, how they communicate with each other, and then figure out a way to emulate it. Takes years without documentation. To this day there are still chips on many famous arcade boards that we still don't know what they do. If we had documentation from the manufacturer, then we could make highly optimized emulators that don't need such heavy hardware requirements. The heavy hardware requirements are for making up the difference and brute forcing the game to run. It's like running a car engine with several major leaks. If you shove enough oil and gas into any engine it will run, but it will leak liquids everywhere on the floor and it will run terribly. But it will run with enough brute force.
>>12788918That is usually how it works. The more accurate the emulator, the more cpu power it takes.
>>12788901Can you imagine how beast of a PC it's gonna take to emulate the PS2 by 2050?
>save states from 2.6.3 (the previous version) arent compatible with 2.8.0absolute cunts, there goes 70 hours
>>12788918that's why you get an older version of pcsx2 and force the improvements onto the old version some real frankenstein shit that's what I did when I still had my windows 7 pc and it was demanding I upgraded my OS.
>>12789338But to need a minimum CPU released what, about 17 years after the PS2? Wasn't every PS2 game at 30fps, idk why we need to squeeze every frame out of these.
>>12789358Were you only using save states?
Better save a appimage

>>12788901While I enjoy emulation a big issue is the community is mainly third worlders and retards who try to use a laptop from like 20 years ago and try to play these games at 4k 120fps
>>12789757Don't older versions of PCSX2 have trouble with some games like Ace Combat?
>>12789725This.
>i5-3470>GeForce GT 710I played Fatal Frame on this setup without any issues. Should I be worried? I don't use any settings that enhance the default experience, such as 4K or 120 FPS. I just want it to feel like a regular PS2.
>>12789338Improvement should make the software run better without requiring more CPU brute force through elegant coding.
>>12789919The more accurately a PS2 emulator emulates the original PS2 CPU and GPU, the more processing power it needs to do all that extra work. So it’s normal for emulator updates that improve accuracy to also increase the hardware requirements.
this is a thread for low iq retards who dont understand how math or computers work
